Baker Mayfield On Pace For 4,077 Yards, 27 Touchdowns And 4 Interceptions
October 26th, 2025
The Bucs are a better team than they were a year ago — while Baker Mayfield has been a less productive quarterback.
It’s a good sign.
Months ago Joe wrote about how it was unrealistic to expect Mayfield to crank out another 41-touchdown season with 4,500 yards passing. Heck, Mayfield completed 71.4 percent of his passes last year. He’s at 63.9 percent this year after today’s glorious beatdown of the slimy Saints.
Mayfield even has less rushing yards this season than he did through eight games last year.
And it’s all good.
Mayfield has cut his turnovers and has been a clutch performer, except for the past two games.
Joe thinks Mayfield is more banged up than he’s letting on. One shred of evidence is Mayfield not running for a yard through the past two games, including not attempting a quarterback sneak today when the Bucs were on the Saints’ 1 yard line eight different times.
The bye comes at the perfect time for the franchise QB, and Joe expects Mayfield to have big second half of 2025, especially if the Bucs step up and get him receiving help before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

Imagine if he would’ve had his 1,2 and 3 receiver’s on the field. Together. At any point.
Would’ve been magical.

Look at this headline from ESPN:
Patriots QB Drake Maye hears ‘MVP’ chants during win vs. Browns
Guess who the Bucs play next…

The Seattle game I believe was 3 weeks ago. I think he was the only QB in NFL history to throw for 375 yards with less than 5 incompletions. We know what our QB is capable of. It’ll be interesting seeing what this ballclub is capable of. Looks like we have a chance to do some great things.

yeah Maye’s name has been mentioned since Mayfield had a bad game last week at Detroit. The Talking Heads were a cool band, not so much the broadcasters who have to jump around like a jumping bean to try and “stay relevant and fresh.” Just threw up in my mouth…..

I agree about Baker playing hurt. He’s popped up on the injury report, he’s not dancing around the pocket as well, and he’s not running.
October 26th, 2025 at 10:13 pm
He’s definitely hurt. The first six weeks he was playing out of his mind. The last two weeks he’s been playing like the Mayfield that had a bad shoulder for the Browns.
Thank God for the bye week.

“The Bucs are a better team than they were a year ago — while Baker Mayfield has been a less productive quarterback.”
———-
You are only half right Joe. Baker has been less productive. However, this is not a better team than it was a year ago. It has a better defense. Well, at least it was today. Fact is last year’s defense cost this team a real shot at another SB championship. Some want to sweep that truth under the rug. One superlative defensive performance does not equal a better team.

Beating the Browns does not mean much.. Maye will be punished by Bowles.

people were closing pockets on him and he’s a little paranoid getting all the balls batted. It’s affecting his release and the accuracy of his balls. A lot of them being high part of it may be that he has an injured hand, but I think people are closing pockets on his throwing lanes. He’s really good when he bounces up end of the pocket, but we’re keeping him from doing that. They need to roll him out a little bit more so he can see a clear field and the defense has to adjust………. Also, would someone tell the O coordinator to put the damn play card over his mouth when he’s talking and quit snapping the effing ball at one and two seconds left on the play clock . The defense is teeing off……… I mean, how do Tom Moore and Bowles not see this…….. I mean go up and snap the ball with eight seconds left on the play clock…….. go up when nobody’s over center and have Baker walk up and take the 6 yards up the middle, make the defense adjust …….. the dumb jack disease is alive and well……. A six and two is great, but there’s some little basic things that are not being done well.

Beating the Browns overall, sure. But the Browns have probably the best defense in football – but their offense is insanely bad, even worse than the Saints. Maye is legit, but “winning” MVP chants in week 6 or week 8 doesn’t mean jack. But if Bucs fans are chanting MVP in week 17 or 18, then we’re talking.

In criticizing Bakers performance the last 2 games, you guys seem to be ignoring that he is missing his 1st, 2nd and 3rd WRs as well as his RB1. Perhaps the reason he is holding the ball so long is that his WRs aren’t getting seperation? Yeah, Egbuka is great, but if he’s the only threat, defenses can roll coverage to him. Baker is being forced to throw to covered receivers. I’ve never seen so many people complain about QB play without regards to what the receivers are doing.
Not to mention poor O-line play

If the defensive performance we watched today is a new normal and not an outlier, we’ve gotta like our chances of throttling Drake Maye.

That is going to pick up, more touchdowns and yards as they get healthy and the running game gets better.
October 27th, 2025 at 4:24 am
The defense was superb. Need to keep it going after the bye.
Thinking too, Baker may be somewhat hurt and thankfully the bye is here. Rest, rehab, and heal.

It would be great to see Mayfield play with a starting Sunday roster of actual starters. I’m tired of seeing the IR every week of all the starters who aren’t playing.
Receiving Corps, O-Line, RB look like the cast from the Replacements.. And that’s just the offense.
It would be nice to see Baker playing from a pocket that doesn’t look like a folding lawn chair, throw to an open receiver who isn’t 5,6 or 7 on the depth chart, and have his RB tandem that keeps defenses from teeing off on him inside the pocket.
The question isn’t whether Baker can keep playing at an MVP level, it’s can Baker stay healthy until the walking wounded come back.
