Buccaneers Hero And NFC Defensive Player Of The Week Anthony Nelson

October 26th, 2025

Haason who?

The long arm of the law, Bucs edge rusher Anthony Nelson, cranked out 1 sack a forced fumble and a pick-six before halftime today while starting in place of injured Haason Reddick. And then Nelson notched another sack.

Now that’s starting fast.

Nelson was the catalyst for the Bucs defense, which sort of was the Tampa Bay offense today against the slimy Saints.

Head coach Todd Bowles often calls Nelson a “steady Eddie” because he knows exactly what to do and can be relied upon to do it. That doesn’t mean “Nellie” has special talent, but he can make plays. He may have saved the Bucs’ season last year in Carolina with a forced fumble in overtime.

The 2019 fourth-round draft pick has been a durable piece of the puzzle and is on his third Bucs contract.

Not only was Nelson’s big play his first NFL interception, it was his first touchdown, too.

    HUGE DAY TODAY FOR NELSON

Hopefully his contact has some good incentives for stats

  5. unbelievable Says:

    *contract

  6. Winny Testaverde Says:

Hassan Chopped? Nah…but good on Nelly! Fox trying to short him a forced fumble also. He’s been a glue guy a la Golston. Made The Rattler a meme with a shove to the turf.

  7. TruthBTold Says:

CDefense continues to be the best unit on the team.
The new defensive coaches & players have Bucs playing so much better than last year.
Special teams are playing solid better than early this year.
Offense is banged up and it shows the last couple of weeks.
When good players “look off” it is most likely because they are not healthy.
Wirfs was having problems with Chase Young today.
Grizz is still learning and nothing is consistent with the offensive players or play calling.
We are 6-2 at the bye week that we need to try and heal.
I enjoy watching this defense this year. They will be making more and more splash plays in the 2nd half of the season.
    Go Bucs !!

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

I think it’s safe to say that Braswell SUCKS.
I’ve been watching him in the second half and the dude is fast garbage.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    Great job Nelson

    You deserve it

    GO BUCS

  10. AstralTurf Says:

    Nelson is well-coached
Whoever made the rule that a HC has to look like a wiz kid in his first few years or he’s a lost cause needs their head examined.

  11. Winny Testaverde Says:

TAS well did get his name announced…for off sides…but he’ll take it.

  12. David Says:

He needs to start from here on out. He had a better half than Reddick had all year.
Trade Reddick and a 2nd and get Trey Hendrickson or a receiver

  13. Bucfanintx Says:

Trucking Spencer Rattler was a bonus

  14. Geno711 Says:

Defense seems to be getting better and seems like it will be the strength — not the offense in the 2nd half of the year.

  15. NJBucsfan23 Says:

All nelson does is be consistent. He deserves to play most of the snaps.

  16. rrsrq Says:

That’s what you call taking advantage of your opps

  17. firethecannons Says:

Perhaps the elusive edge defender we have been searching for was on the defense all along!

  18. Daryl Green Says:

That’s all he does Ant Nelson, plays with hustle good engery. So Hassan is better
Athlete 🤣🤣🤣can’t do what Ant Nelson does, don’t want to see Ant off the field. Every 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

  19. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Definitely an unassuming guy based on his interview after the game. Great job Nelly!

  20. Larrd Says:

Nelson may be consistent but he also seems to make big plays a lot. His height is a talent, as well, as we saw on his pick six.

  21. firethecannons Says:

Nelson makes big play at big times–never forget tthe FF on Panthers 2024 just before the end of the game.

  22. Baking with Grizz Says:

He reminds me of Will Gholsten. Solid

  32. BuccaDAWG Says:

Great Game Anthony Nelson!!!!! The guys deserves all the accolades they give him. He is definitely a glue player. Just showed up and does his job every. Week. With him the Bucs have 1 starting edge rusher, maybe Reddick can learn from him Reddick has potential if he will just mimic Nelson.or hey try what David suggested. Trade Reddick & Brazwell for a edge to help Nelson out. Proud of ya Nelson heck of a game today !!. GO BUCS!!!!

  33. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Nelly is the 4-3 DE archetype we have that we haven’t had in our starting lineup since JPP left that can do all the OLB stuff too. A lot of our fanbase has slept on him, great game by Nelly today and the defense as a whole

  34. Coconut Doughnut Says:

    Nelly always plays well!

  35. Les Says:

GREAT JOJ TODAY ANTHONEY ! NOT JUST TODAY BUT MAKES GREAT PLSYS IN SEVERAL GAMES .

  36. SenileSenior Says:

The unsung hero is being sung about today. Thank you, Nelly!

    Go Bucs!!

  37. mj Says:

    found us an edge?

  38. Capt.Tim Says:

We started JTS in front of this guy?
We are starting one season wonder Haason Reddick in front of this guy?
    Enough stupidity.
Team is starting lazy losers because they think they have potential.
    Nelson has ALWAYS had PRODUCTION.

He’s the best rush linebacker on this team.
Better than YaYa. Better than Braswell. Better than Reddick.

He should be our starter going forward

  39. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Defense as a whole came up big today, but Nelson was the star of the show.

  40. GenocideD Says:

Can we cancel our check to hassan and give that money to AN?

  41. LakelandSteve Says:

Nelson needs to be playing a whole lot more than He has been. In fact he should start in front of Hassan Reddick. When you look at production per snaps Nelson has to have shown much more production than Reddick.

  42. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Much LUV for Nelly’s game. Dude just always seems to flip the switch and heat up once we hit that second half stretch—it’s like clockwork with him

  43. Anyhony Says:

Did Licht draft this guy? Can’t be,……….Licht can’t draft OLB’s. (SARCASM!!!)

  44. Cantankeris Says:

One of the most ridiculous individual plays since JoeJurevicius opened the Linc in 2003.

    Baller!

  45. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Capt.Tim Says:
    “Nelson has ALWAYS had PRODUCTION.”
    .
    .

I’ve been pointing out for years that his per-snap sack numbers are usually tops among our team’s edge rushers. I don’t know why it took so long for him to get an opportunity for more snaps. Because he always has “more athletic” options ahead of him on the depth chart? I’ll take production over potential, thank you.

  46. heyjude Says:

So great to watch! Nelson got it going! So much energy.
