Benjamin Morrison Will Eventually Take Snaps From Zyon McCollum

October 22nd, 2025

Rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison (left) and Jamel Dean.

The rotation of Jamel Dean and rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison has gone well for the Bucs.

Dean is having a standout season and Morrison has made his share of plays while his growing pains have been limited by his snaps.

Today, head coach Todd Bowles said he loves how the rotation is going but referenced that eventually Morrison will switch to the other side of the field and take snaps from McCollum at outside corneback.

“As Morrison gets that side down, we’ll start to rotate him on the other side,” Bowles said.

Joe is wondering how the rest of the season will play out at outside cornerback if all corners remain healthy, which is unlikely.

After Morrison gets his internship reps taking snaps from McCollum, then what? Suppose Dean keeps up his pace and Morrison looks better than McCollum?

The Bucs cornerbacks situation is so much better than it was in 2024.

  1. DS Says:

McCollum has been the worst starting DB for the secondary

  2. DS Says:

    Also Winfield peaked

  3. Beeej Says:

It’s becoming obvious you got to have at least three starting quality outside corners by the end of training camp

  4. I Remember 21 Says:

Better than 24 isn’t saying much… Not one of these top 4 guys can stay healthy for longer than 5 minutes. And it doesn’t fill me with joy that they give Zyon a hefty extension only for him to be supplanted by a late second round rookie the very next season. Isn’t Zyon more of a top speed guy? Not sure he has the quickness to play slot down in & out.

  5. Upstate NY BUC Says:

McCollum still looked hurt Monday!! was afraid to tackle few loafs also to avoid hitting, ok we know he can cover! but what about tackling!!! GO Bucs!!

  6. john Says:

stop crying that are secondary is no good. coaching and scheme along w no rush gets u this product. get more pressure

  7. Fred Says:

Don’t count on Dean. He’s finally decided to play, but his annual injury will show up real soon.

  8. BuucccNASTY Says:

Morrison is going to be good, Zyon will still be needed next year when Dean walks on a fat contract. $16 mil a year for a very good CB is a team friendly deal, especially when the other two CBs are on rookie contracts for 3 more years. Tykee Smith will be due to be paid when Zyon is ready to ride off somewhere else. Long story short… Zyon is a good CB when healthy and is worth the extension.

  9. Deuceswild78 Says:

If we could just generate a pass rush without having to blitz we would be beastly

  10. Beeej Says:

Lions normally score 37 at home, despite the flaws, we held them to 24, which isn’t bad considering how many times we punted, not to mention two drives where we turned it over on first down

  11. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Remember the 3rd down penalty on Dean that led to the long TD on the next play? Perhaps Morrison should be taking more plays from Dean. I know Dean got a gift interception, but the rest of the night he was awful.

  12. Hodad Says:

Need to rotate Bullock in with Dennis. It should be obvious to Bowles, and Licht by now Dennis isn’t the long term answer at MLB. should also be obvious it’s David’s last year. Save some wear, and tear on David by giving Jackson some snaps too. Jackson, and Bullock actually looked better in preseason than Dennis.

  13. mj Says:

I agree Bullock needs to play he’sa superstar waiting to happen

so much negativity in the comments bunch of spazoids, the defense played good Monday except for a couple plays, gibbs was amazing and st brown we couldn’t stop those guys

  14. Gofortheface30 Says:

Said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more – it’s coming. He will eventually be cb1 as long as he stays healthy. He’s better than both Dean and McCollum, not to mention this is Todd Bowles’s guy. He’s effectively a first round pick, and he ain’t coming in for no spot duty..

  15. 813BUCBOI Says:

    competition is the best motivation!!!

let zyon know he’s not a “lock” just because he signed a deal….

and i agree with others regarding the LB position…rotate Jackson & Bullock

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. KABucs Says:

We can gripe all day about our secondary guys being hurt a lot but it seems like every team has that problem. The secondary positions must be one of the more injured positions on average league wide. Receivers are also pretty bad. Probably because they’re frequently running at top speed out there hitting each other and they’re built for speed/ athleticism not power/durability usually… there are definitely outliers for this.

  17. Brian in FL Says:

Having 3 starting caliber CBs is a good problem to have. Dean the crafty vet having a renaissance season. Zyon the steady guy who is always pretty good and seldom a liability. BenMo the up and coming rookie who, while making rookie mistakes, has looked very very sticky at times. I’m happy with tjhim direction of our DB room.

  18. TampaBayBucFan Says:

We have some great young DBs…..

    Tykee, Zion, Parrish, Morrison….

We are in very good shape in the secondary and they played pretty well Mon.

That game was lost on our Oline and Baker off night.

  19. Truth be Told Says:

Yes, Winfield is Now Overpaid all things considered. They need to rework his deal and/or figure out that spot. Very little impact plays anymore. Go Bucs!

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

It might be a coincidence but Zyon has not brought his A game sice he got paid. Maybe he has a lingering injury but whatever it is, Bowles does need to give Morrison more snaps.

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

How many snaps has Morrison actually played!?

  22. David Says:

Drafting Morrison and Parrish was fantastic. In today’s NFL you need four cornerbacks. Three are on the field at all times almost.

Tykee has been very good at safety and I fully expect him to get better and better against the pass.

Quite honestly, my main concern is Winfield. He is fully healthy and has been awfully quiet. I expected him to return to the all pro level and I still think he can, but it has not happened so far.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Oh, give me a frigging break! The Defense and ST aren’t beat up like the Offense. Plus, who will ref (joke) this one? If you don’t get it about what happened to ME13 in Detroit and claim to be a Buc fan, you are braindead. No. Bucs lost cos Lions played better, but that BS surrounding what knocked out ME13?? Bucs will be on the warpath in NOLA. Shame Payton won’t be there, cos we would kick his worthless azz into the Gulf of Mexico. Man, am I getting ready. Go Bucs, 6-2!! While you’re at it, kick a few refs into the Gulf!!
