Bucs Coaching Staff Earning Its Pay

October 13th, 2025

Assistants like OC Josh Grizzard doing strong work.

Yeah, the Bucs defense has had to deal with injuries this year. Losing Calijah Kancey was a big hit. And there is always the Jamel Dean injury or two.

But Joe cannot remember an offense being ravaged by injuries quite like the Bucs this year, though San Francisco and Baltimore fans will argue they’ve been bitten by the injury bug worse.

Think about it: The Bucs yesterday were down to their No. 3 right guard and Nos. 6 and 7 receivers, who both caught touchdown passes.

Joe has already remarked how the Bucs’ coaching staff has done a fantastic job getting guys ready to not just play but produce.

This afternoon, Todd Bowles gave his assistants shoutouts for coaching up the backups.

“They’ve been great,” Bowles’ said of his staff. “I can’t name one that stands above the other. They all go around [and] they work well together – they understand what they have to do.

“When you tell them somebody is down and they might have to use this guy or that guy, they just put their heads down and go to work right away – maybe a sarcastic comment or two, but after that they kind of go to work.

“[Bucs assistants] understand what they have to do, and do the best job I’ve seen getting guys ready to play whether they’ve been here for three days or whether they’ve been here for three weeks. That’s hats off to them, and we wouldn’t be where we were if it wasn’t for those guys.”

Joe thinks this only strengthens the notion that Bucs rookie offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard may be a one-and-done playcaller, a Tampa Bay tradition.

How many offensive coordinators have dealt with this many injuries and still have their team winning? And Grizzard is learning this on the fly in his first year calling plays. Imagine what he would be like with a consistently healthy offense?

Grizzard has shown right away in his first year calling plays that he can adapt, adjust and overcome.

Trust Joe, Grizzard’s work is being noticed in NFL circles.

Quite the coaching tree, Bowles has going here.

  2. Roscoe Says:

Josh Grizzard will be a big test for the Glazers. Canales and Coen got away and are doing well. In my opinion Grizz shows even more promise. They have the chance to forge the future of this team. I can understand how Canales got away, the Glazers played it safe. Coen got away because the Glazers were, in my view, somewhat reckless. The scenario is perfect; 3 years to groom Grizz and further build the roster. In 3 years this team will look very much different. PAY Grizz whatever it takes and make him sign an ironclad contract.

  3. BucU Says:

I’m gonna shock the world and declare the coaches have done an outstanding job keeping this team on the winning track with the ridiculous amount of injuries.
No earthly clue what Gedeke’s status is. Is he coming back at all? Depends on what you hear and from who. Morrison? Has he had a single moment of being healthy since the first day he walked in the door? He makes Jamaal Dean look like
Cal Ripkin Jr. Absolutely pathetic. I congratulate every player that does play week in and week out. I don’t remember Jacob Parrish missing a single OTA or training camp practice all the way up to present time. He’s fantastic. Wish we had a whole team in the mold of that guy.

  4. Joe Sea Says:

Joe you think if Baker gets MVP the other teams will think Baker made Grizzard? That might be our only way of keeping him.

  5. Fred Says:

Baker is clearly the key to our offense doesn’t matter who calls the plays.

  6. Joe Says:

Joe you think if Baker gets MVP the other teams will think Baker made Grizzard?

Both. If Grizzard was a subpar OC, this offense would have crumbled by now with all the injuries.

No question Baker has been the key. But man, look at Baltimore. Established OC with a very good coach and they have collapsed.

Canales and Coen aren’t part of a Bowles coaching tree. Bowles is a defense minded coach and they were one year and gone offense coordinators. They were merely stray windblown seeds that germinated and were quickly dug up and transplanted by others.

  8. 813BUCBOI Says:

not sure why folks are worried about losing grizz lol

grizz has been great, but todd has shown the ability to hire the right coaches…

i honestly think our next OC is already on the staff…Thad Lewis…

he’s learned from BA, Canales, Coen and now Grizz….and most importantly todd and jason…

dont put the cart before the horse ladies and gents!!!!

    5-1!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. Pops Malone Says:

We need Coach Bowles to work on his special teams coaching tree, because Keith Armstrong and this guy they have now aren’t cutting it…..

    P.S…..Right on 813BUCBOI !!!

  11. John Sinclear Says:

Roscoe – Good thinking, but in the NFL there’s no such thing as an ironclad contract. Seems like, whether player or coach, you grab as much as you can get on paper, and then wait for the time you can just ignore the contract and do whatever you can get away with. Could be different if the NFL would strictly enforce contracts. With severe fines, penalties and banishment if needed!

  12. GoneGator Says:

WR coach, Carbs and company, RB coaches, new D-line guy, LB and CB coaches, safeties coach, special teams coach, assistant DCs, QB coach….

All these guys deserve props…. Hasn’t been perfect but they’ve all kept grinding.

We’re not without flaws but everybody’s playing their a$$es off

Props to TODD for coaching the coaches and keeping everybody’s eye on the prize 🏆🏈

Let’s get ready for the Todd sucks crowds favorite team – the Lions 😡

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

“that Bucs rookie offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard may be a one-and-done playcaller, a Tampa Bay tradition.”

I’ll not nitpick the fact that 2 guys in a row are not a tradition because I get your point and the fear.

But there are all kinds of factors that come into play. Baker absolutely got Canales his job. I like DC and think he has talent but he was in the right place at the right time to get the Bucs job which was the right place at the right time (Baker) to get the Panthers job. He seems to be doing reasonably well with them so I won’t be surprised if we see a lot of Canales in the future.

Coen is older than Griz, he has FAR more experience having bopped around between UK and college ball and the NFL. Coen realized that Jax was going to be his best and perhaps final shot.

Griz is lined up perfectly to be the heir apparent to Todd. If the Glazers make that real and back it up with some dollars Griz is smart enough to realize the culture the Bucs have now built and the franchise QB!!!

There are just as many reasons for Griz to stay as go unless you believe he’s not really that talented and has just lucked into the job like Canales. I think Griz is incredibly smart and CONFIDENT and won’t necessarily jump at the first job offer, especially if he feels he’s next in line with the Bucs. All he has to do to succeed Todd is hang in there and keep producing. Then he moves Thad Lewis into the OC spot and the team just keeps on chugging!

stupid to think our former OCs arent from the bowles coaching tree just because todd is an defensive genius!!!!

adam gase and josh mcdaniels are from the bill belechik coaching tree!!!!

bowles came from the BA coaching tree and Bruce is all offense!!!!

folks never want to give todd credit!!!!…unbelievable!!!!!

Getting a sense that this team will run through a brick wall for Todd Bowles and staff
Don’t underestimate the importance in players believing in their coach

  16. Roscoe Says:

Notice the shirt Todd is wearing in the photo. It says “Engineered For Tampa Bay Buccaneers”. That says it all. (My opinion) The Glazers took the absolute fecal mess that BA and BL and TB dumped in their lap and made the best of it by engineering a new head coach. That has been a TOTAL success in spite of the ups and downs and endless criticism (myself included). That success story is what gives me hope that this new scenario with Todd being on a 3 year contract and the Sean McVay model is perfect. Let’s hope Grizz sees the value in that scenario as well.

  17. Woodman Says:

All this talk about Bowels and his coaches and Ironlung no where to be be found. Thought sure he would chime in. Oh well he will be back because Todd lives rent free in his head.

  18. Aqualung Says:

spbf, good point about Coen – and the attraction in Jax was an immensely talented but undercoached QB in Lawrence. Most of the HC jobs that come open aren’t going to have a promising QB in waiting, they’ll have the train wreck scenario and hoping they can strike gold with a rookie.

Griz can look at the Bucs, who are being built right by Licht from the ground up, with one of the premier franchise quarterbacks, and aim for the day Todd retires.

Salesmanship comes into play along with trust among the parties involved. Really slick attorneys can write some good contracts. What we need to be concerned about is Grizzards agent. Who might that be ? Does anyone know ?

  20. Let em bake Says:

Get baker done first. Everything else ripples from him.

  21. Roscoe Says:

The more I think about it this is a perfect situation for the Glazers. Over the next three years, maybe less if Todd gets a SB win and retires, plans for a defense coaching staff could be put in place with new and younger blood. Grizz will have had plenty of time to study Todds system and formulate his own desires.

  22. Bucsfan Says:

Let Baker be the OC and call his own plays.

  23. Obvious One Says:

I would say that one of Bowles Greatest Abilities is the ability to identify Offensive Coaching Talent. He has a SOLD FUTURE in doing Just That after he hangs up his whistle and Probably make More Money doing it.
As for the assistants and the job they’re doing? I’m giving them a STANDING OVATION! Fantastic Work guys! The drop off in talent was almost UNNOTICEABLE!

I SURE AM PROUD of the ENTIRE coaching staff for what I witnessed yesterday.

And for THE VERY FIRST TIME AS THE BUCCANEERS HEAD COACH, HE IMPRESSED ME WITH HIS GAME CALLING AND QUICK, FLEXIBLE ADJUSTMENTS. I’m Not so cool as not to be able to give the man the CREDIT HE HAS DUE, AS I PROMISED I WOULD IF HE COQCHED LIKE HE DID SUNDAY, AND I’M GIVING IT UP TO HIM! If he Continues to Coach and Calls Plays like he DID on Sunday, I’ll have a hard time speaking of any disappointments from him. HE!!, Even the Pass Rush Ate ALL DAY!

If the coaching staff and ESPECIALLY Todd Bowles Remains THAT Aggressive and Flexible, Calling a Flexible defense for the Entire Game instead of Only the usual Second Half stands…. WATCH OUT! Todd Bowles OUT COACHED AND OUT GAMED, Shanahan! Shanahan DIDN’T KNOW WHAT HIT HIM!!!!

Bucs fans expect excellence from HC Todd Bowles and team GM Jason Licht.. Bucs fans also need to expect excellence from team ownership. I am generally very much pro-Glazer Family. Think highly of them as team owners..Now assuming what Joe wrote above is on the money and Grizzard will be highly pursued then the Glazers better be ready to stop that from happening. If Grizzard walks that will be the third OC in as many years. That is not acceptable. Where there’s a will there’s a way. The Glazers need to be prepared to think out of the box and come up with a plan to keep him. No excuses! Do not want to hear about “he wants to be a HC.” Don’t care what it takes to get it done. No last minute frantic pitch to keep him. No taking the kid to the doctor silliness. The Glazers got be where they are today by be smart business people. As the season starts to close-in all eyes will be cast on the Glazers. Losing out on a third OC cannot be acceptable. Glazers don’t let your fans down again. Every man has his price. Get it done.

    Secure Grizzard 2026

  25. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  31. James Willie Says:

If the Grizz is gone, could a certain Miami coach on the hot seat be the Bucs next offensive coordinator?

  32. Durango 95 Says:

It’s one thing to hire the right person. It’s quite another when it comes to holding on to that person. Should Bowles take “blame” for not being able to retain these OC? No. But when employees including managers or in this case coaches choose to leave an organization one has to look at all the reasons for an organization not being able to hold on to their best staff members. In this case. It starts with the Glazers and Jason Licht but yes does include Bowles as well.

  33. Bucfan1988 Says:

Let’s not forget—this transition has been in motion for years. Todd Bowles has been eyeing a zone-heavy approach since his final season with the Jets, when he brought in longtime Denver Broncos assistants Rick Dennison (Offensive Line) and Jeremy Bates (Quarterbacks/OC) to implement similar concepts.

Under Dave Canales, along with offensive line coaches Joe Gilbert and Harold Goodwin, two coaches with less experience in zone techniques, the groundwork was started. However, under the leadership of Offensive Line Coach Kevin Carberry and Assistant Brian Picucci, who brought a deeper understanding of zone principles, the system was refined and elevated to new levels.

Zone concepts typically take 2 to 3 years to fully master, and by the end of the season, everything was finally starting to click.

The fat boys up front were reinforced with key free-agent additions—Ben Bredeson and Sua Opeta, who provided competition at left guard, while first-round pick Graham Barton solidified the center position, pushing Robert Hainsey into a valuable depth role. In his second full season at right tackle, Luke Goedeke continued to develop, while Cody Mauch dedicated the offseason to getting stronger, ensuring a solid foundation up front.

Additionally, rookie running back Bucky Irving, with his extensive experience in zone schemes from his time at Oregon, made a seamless transition and provided an immediate impact in the offense.

I always thought one of Gruden’s biggest downfalls was not implementing zone concepts while he was here. The system could have added a new dimension to the offense, but some guys just like to cook things their own way. Shanahan’s version of the West Coast offense was unique, and maybe Gruden didn’t want to encroach on that territory. Whether it was stubbornness or just sticking to what he knew best, it’s hard not to wonder how things might have been different if he had embraced more of those zone principles.

Let’s not be so sure of that. We don’t know who Todd interviewed 2 years ago. Most thought Todd was on the hot seat and may have taken a pass. Canales was eager and brought Bucs connections with him. Coen saw a good team and Baker and I surmise may have even expected to be moved up. Circumstances may have made him look good.

  48. LUVMYBUCS Says:

You have a problem with the facts I guess

  49. Defense Rules Says:

St Pete … ‘Griz is lined up perfectly to be the heir apparent to Todd. All he has to do to succeed Todd is hang in there and keep producing.’

And there-in lies the gotcha St Pete: all Grizz has to do is ‘keep producing’. That’s why IMO these OCs bolt after 1 year of success here; there’s no guarantee whatsoever that the next year will be as (or more) productive. There’s a LOT of money on the table when they get offered a HC position. Doesn’t mean a lick about job security, but it means everything in terms of family financial security.

And that’s not even counting the ego-boost that goes with it. There are only 32 NFL head coaching positions in the world. Pass on one when it’s offered, and you may never get that chance again. I don’t blame Coen for taking the Jacksonville job, even if the Glazers offered to match the salary. There’d be no guarantees as to when Bowles would retire, and no guarantees that Coen would be his successor.

I wonder if Byron Leftwich wishes that he’d taken the Jacksonville job (assuming that it was offered to him like many reports claimed it was). Can’t help but think that he might wish he’d done things a little differently.

  50. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Todd Bowles’ Offensive Coaching Tree: Breakdown

    The Vision:
After firing Byron Leftwich in early 2023, Todd Bowles made his direction clear — the Bucs were going to run the ball better, play more balanced football, and complement the defense.
Instead of imposing his own scheme, Bowles chose to curate proven offensive minds who could evolve the system without constant resets.

    2018 – The Foundation (Jets):
Rick Dennison (OL/Run Game) and Jeremy Bates (QB/OC), both Mike Shanahan disciples, brought zone-blocking and West Coast elements to New York.
It set the tone for Bowles’ approach — import experienced offensive thinkers rather than force a defensive coach’s system.

Tampa Bay Era – The McVay/Shanahan Pipeline

Dave Canales (2023) – The Vertical Branch
Lineage: 13 years under Pete Carroll, worked with Shane Waldron (McVay disciple).
Style: Vertical, play-action heavy, attacking downfield.
Result: Rejuvenated Baker Mayfield and earned the Panthers HC job.

Liam Coen (2024) – The McVay Sophistication
Lineage: Direct McVay disciple (Rams 2018–22).
Style: Rhythm-based, heavy motion, faster tempo.
Result: Elevated the scheme’s IQ and balance; hired as Jaguars HC.

Josh Grizzard (2025) – The Continuity Branch
Lineage: 7 years in Miami under Mike McDaniel/Adam Gase (Shanahan tree).
Style: Refined motion offense, Miami-style spacing, kept Coen’s terminology.
Result: Seamless transition — led the NFL in 3rd-down conversions.

    The Scheme DNA:
Core foundation: Shanahan wide-zone + play-action.
    * Canales: Vertical emphasis
    * Coen: Motion and rhythm
    * Grizzard: Spacing and refinement
Shared terminology across all three has allowed Tampa’s offense to evolve instead of reboot.

    Bottom Line:
Todd Bowles quietly built a continuity-based offensive ecosystem rooted in the Shanahan/McVay tree.
Three straight OCs became head coaches, while the offense modernized around the same DNA — balanced, efficient, and aligned with Bowles’ defensive identity.

  51. toopanca Says:

Everything any Bucs OC comes up with gets tested and refined by experience in practice against Bowles. So, doesn’t that mean that Bowles must have at least an experiential effect on the development of the OCs on his staff?

There are certainly additional elements as well in Bowles’s development of is Offensive Coordinators to score points; I am sure that he asks them to run the clock to increase the Offense’s Time of Possession to prevent depleting the vigor of the Defense by overtaking the endurance of the Defense. But, this is the the NFL where everything is a deep dark secret until the it is exposed someday.

As to the binding effects of coaching contracts in the NFL, a coach under contract cannot be hired away by another team for a lateral move unless the team they are under contract to gives the coach permission to leave in which case they might negotiate for compensation such as draft picks from the team taking their coach.

That is not terribly meaningful. For example, a team can hire away an Offensive Coordinator to “promote” the Offensive Coordinator to Assistant Head Coach for Offense who is basically still an Offensive Coordinator with a fancier title. But, teams are only allowed two Assistant Head Coaches, so there is a limit to how much teams can game the system this way.

As above I mentioned deep dark secrets, Bowles was reputed to be one of the lowest paid Head Coaches in the NFL before he was given an extension this year, and the salary tier of the extension is another deep dark NFL secret.

But, if the Bucs are still paying Bowles on the cheap, it doesn’t give the Bucs much room to try to keep any OC in a bidding war. And, it doesn’t give Grizzard much incentive to hang around to be the heir apparent for Bowles knowing that the Bucs barely crack open their check book for a three time division winning coach.

Now, if the extension brought Bowles up into the second tier Head Coach salaries with incentives for division championships and playoff success, then Grizzard could be quite motivated to hang around for three years as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator with a salary in the range of third tier of Head Coach salaries.

The questions are, how greatly do the Bucs value Grizzard vs the next several Offensive Coordinator candidates on their radar? And, how greatly do the Bucs value Grizzard as a future Head Coach? Not every great Offensive Coordinator has the makings of a great Head Coach.

  52. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    So this doesn’t sound familiar?

When Bowles fired Byron Leftwich after the 2022 season, he made it clear he wanted to run the ball more and play balanced football. Fans pushed back, saying the “modern game is built for scoring and passing,” and called it backwards thinking.

Many still preferred Arians’ “risk it, no biscuit” approach — that vertical, air-it-out mentality. Bowles, meanwhile, envisioned a horizontal, rhythm-based offense built on motion, spacing, and efficiency — one that could sustain drives, protect the defense, and still strike when needed.

The prevailing belief heading into 2023 was simple:
“The days of a run-heavy, methodical offense are behind us.”

  53. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  54. Geno711 Says:

I have seen many years where an OC comes in and is pretty darn good that 1st year and even a decent amount of these guys be good a 2nd year.

It is when their tendencies are figured out that all of a sudden, we realize they are not Andy Reid or Sean Payton or Sean McVay.

That is not a Bucs thing -0– that is a general observation.

Is Canales a good offensive minded head coach or just a guy. Time will tell.
    Same thing with Liam Coen.

Once tendencies are identified — well — we will see. The interesting thing moving forward is how much NFL guys will start using AI to not help them draw up plays but to help them identify their own tendencies.

  55. Colonel Angus Says:

Hey guys, I came up with valuable information after taking ayahuasca, I saw into the future and seen that Brian Branch has been suspended for next Monday!!! I just wanted to be the first one to post that, hope I don’t get moderated.

  56. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Aqualung

Indeed! I agree with you that Trevor Lawrence was an attractive option for Coen.
And that’s a bit of my point that you brought out. If Griz is going to bolt he’ll certainly be looking at the talent. If he stays he has Baker!

    D.R.

I certainly do not dispute your post at all. There are ONLY 32 jobs and ego does have something to do with it. But how many of those 32 jobs are really worth having. Would Griz be tempted by Cleveland? Canales knew he was lucky and couldn’t really be picky so he took the bad ownership, messed up franchise pill and went to Carolina.

Because in my own like experience I turned down more money and a much more impressive job when I was in radio because I REALLY liked the “culture” of the station I worked for. I told them of the offer and they bent over backwards trying to match the $$$. They came very close and so I stayed foregoing a better career move. I have never regretted that decision.

I think Griz is very smart. Not just Yale, he was his High School Class Valedictorian with a 4.75 GPA. Following his graduation from Yale, Grizzard coached at Duke from 2013 to 2016 as a graduate assistant/quality control coach, working with the Blue Devil quarterbacks. While at Duke, Grizzard earned a master’s degree in Christian studies.

He did something incredibly wise which I would advise all young people to do.
He delayed gratification in pursuit of his LOW PAYING dream, waiting on the if/come. This is not common in today’s society. I think it reveals his brains and character.

The money is not a HUGE hurdle. The average OC salary is 1 million with several like Todd Moncken making 3 million and Chip Kelly getting six million!

I think Todd will step down if the Bucs win the SB this season much like BA. Todd will have a SB as a player, Coordinator and HC if the Bucs win another Lombardi. The trick is how big of a window do Jason and the Glazers offer Todd, and how long is Griz willing to wait.

Another HUGE factor is do Todd and Griz truly get along? Would Todd trust that Griz wouldn’t be backstabbing him during a rough stretch.

Given Griz’s history, a Master’s in Christian studies I find it hard to believe he’s a backstabber.

Bottom line is what are the odds. I certainly do not dismiss your excellent points. Still I think it’s 50/50 and depending on Jason and the Glazers they may make it more like 90/10.

The questions are, how greatly do the Bucs value Grizzard vs the next several Offensive Coordinator candidates on their radar? And, how greatly do the Bucs value Grizzard as a future Head Coach? Not every great Offensive Coordinator has the makings of a great Head Coach.

The points you make are well thought out and meaningful. The questions you ask are spot on.

My enthusiasm has reached the euphoric stage. I just want to see this Franchise and Team that has tormented (hyperbole) me for 50 years stop the merry-go-round but perhaps inertia is in control.

This stuff is just conjecture about next year. Meanwhile we have a real team this year which is worthy of our focus. The team and coaches have done exceptionally well notwithstanding a rash of injuries. There can’t be any other team more entertaining than the Bucs. Let’s just enjoy it and hope it can be sustained.

Well, whoopee, what kind of dope was Detroit Lions’ player Branch on? Did he sneak in a blow of crack before he came out and popped a KC player after the game?? Talk about stupidity. That bozo already knew his secondary was weakened by injuries. It sure wasn’t ayahuasca, it was some sort of speed dope. I’m an old acid queen who graduated with a few degrees. I have been rooting for Detroit (Bucs first) cos they have NEVER been in a SB!! 6-1, Bucs for my birthday!!

Todd Bowles has Picked HIMSELF, HIS CHOICE, THREE OF HIS 4 OC’S HERE! Buddy you’re pretty green and I get it, but it’s a “Come On Man” moment for you this time…

It would help if you realized how duh your comment really Was. What are they supposed to do? Make the place look and act like C.R.A.P!? Well Guess What? THERE ARE ALSO “ONLY” 32 PRO FOOTBALL “OC POSITIONS” IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT BOWLES HAD TO DO A LOT OF BEGGING TO ANYBODY…!

    @DR

Man you said it! Leftwich IS STILL KICKING HIS OWN A$$ OVER THAT FOOLISH DECISION! But I believe he REALLY THOUGHT that HE was going to be gifted the HC job here. And THAT’S WHY he was SO P!SSED OFF year ONE of Todd Bowles tenure as the HC… And I believe he did his part with a PURPOSEFUL and HEARTLESS effort, sabotaging the offense that year WITH Brady doing him No Favors and making it Severely Worse than it already WAS…. What a LOUSY YEAR THAT WAS!…..

  63. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Let’s see if Josh Allen can do MVP shtuff in the 2nd half…if not I don’t want o hear his name mentioned with Mayfield or nail Mayfield has a step backward(unlikely) or JA does something with his decimated offense

  64. Lightningvinny1 Says:

James W nailed it ,, I was thinking the same thing (and hoped to post it first) that once Grizz offered HC somewhere TB will hire geek squad to be our OC

Been following the Hotlanta-Bills game on NFL not-sure-what-it’called but it’s like a constantly updated data sheet. Last time I looked, it was the half and Raheem’s bunch was up 21-7. Getting ready to crash. This oldie Bucs fan is just worn out after 2 days of Cardiac Bucs. H3ll with it: Go Mighty Bucs, 6-1 on my birthday!!!

You must have read the posts by Citrus County back then. He laid out a very good argument for the for the bad things that happened during that time.

You also must have not read or otherwise ignored the great deal of information made available by a large segment of the media during that time.

As far as you calling me green I counter that you exhibit signs of color blindness and myopia. I will say, you are an obvious one.

  70. Roscoe Says:

As far as Todd Bowles ability to evaluate coaching talent he took a chance on 3 unproven talents. He may have seen something, he may have just gotten lucky, he may have had assistance. Bowles is a defensive minded coach. There have been weaknesses on the defense coaching staff. Why has he not been as successful there? Do we want to try for four OC’s in a row ?

  71. GoneGator Says:

Speaking of great coaching – Both of the interceptions were due to Todd fooling Shanahan and Jones with disguised cover 2 zones.
NFL live gave a quick breakdown.

Truly was a great job coaching by Todd!!!
Depth is so much better than last year.

Great job by Grizz and all the assistants too.

  72. Roscoe Says:

Todd Bowles is a loyal Head Coach. I’m sure he hates to fire anyone.
Our offensive coaching staff has had turnover by attrition 3 years in a row. The cream has risen to the top and the weak links aren’t obvious if there are any. That can’t be said about the defense. Bowles is the Boss in a performance based job. Sometimes changes need to be made. If young unproven coaches can succeed as well as our last three OC”s have, why hasn’t our defensive guru HC found some young guys to replace the old guys that can’t develop pass rushers and build good special teams ? Todd got the turnover on offense without having to fire his underperforming buddies on defense. I won’t mention names but an underperforming outside linebacker coach that failed to coach up top draft picks as pass rushers got lateraled out of that job. Perhaps after 28 years in the NFL it was time to move on. Thankfully, although it took a huge embarrassment, Bowles lit a fire under the new special teams coach.

  73. DJR589 Says:

Is it fair to ask if they had a conversation with Grizzard about his future coaching plans before hiring him, seeing as to how they lost back to back OCs?
