Game 6

49ers  (4-1) at Bucs (4-1)

Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game will also be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 226 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed).

Weather: Awesome day in Tampa Bay today, per AccuWeather.com. This is about perfect weather for Joe: highs in the mid-80s. Tailgaters will begin swilling with the temperatures in the high-70s. By kickoff, look for the temperature to be 86. That will gradually drop off to 80 by game’s end. This will all be done under a typical sunny Florida sky. While there should be minimal wind, the gusts will push into the upper teens.

Odds: Per Hard Rock Bet, as of Saturday, Bucs -3 (-180); over/under 47.

Referees: Brad Rodgers and his gang will work today’s 49ers-Bucs game. Rogers and his outfit have worked four games this season and the home team has won all four games. Rogers and his posse average 13 penalties a game. The league average is 15.

Injuries: 49ers — Out: DL Kevin Givens (pectoral), DL Yetur Gross-Matos (knee/hamstring), WR Ricky Pearsall (knee),  QB Brock Purdy (toe), WR Jordan Watkins (calf). Questionable: DL Alfred Collins (knee), DL Kalia Davis (hand), WR Jauan Jennings (ankle/rib), QB Mac Jones (knee/oblique), S Malik Mustapha (knee), CB Upton Stout (ankle). Bucs — Out: WR Mike Evans (hamstring), WR Chris Godwin (fibula), RB Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder), CB Zyon McCollum (thumb), CB Benjamin Morrison (hamstring), RB Josh Williams (concussion). Questionable: CB Christian Izien (quad). (The NFL does not include players on injury reports who are not on a team’s active 53-man roster. Players on injured reserve or the practice squad are not on a team’s active 53-man roster.)

Outlook: The Bucs are so beat up and they catch the 49es not only playing damn good football, but coming off an extra three days rest. That’s not a good combo. Plus, the Bucs aren’t playing the 49ers at 1 p.m., which would be 10 a.m. West Coast time. So with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin out, it seems like the deck is stacked against the Bucs today. The Bucs simply must play better defense and special teams to win this game. The second half of last week’s win at Seattle the defense was horrific. Mike Smith bad. And the kick return team even worse. It seemed as if the Seahawks were starting every drive at midfield after the Bucs scored. There are a lot of players that will have to step up and Joe thinks they will have an opportunity. Mr. Clean may be an arse but he’s not stupid. Joe believes Mr. Clean will devote double- and maybe triple-team coverage to Emeka Egbuka. That should give Sterling Shepard and Cade Otton plenty of opportunities. Last week Otton came out of hiding in the Bucs’ pass game and he usually does well against the 49ers. If the Bucs defense can have a decent game — too often a question mark — and secondary players in the passing game can make an impact, the Bucs might be able to pull out a win today.

Fun facts: The 49ers have a four-game win streak on the Bucs, including the past three seasons. … 49ers QB Mac Jones completed 33 of 49 passes last week in an overtime win over the Rams on the road. Jones threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns. … RB Christian McCaffrey had 139 scrimmage yards against the Rams (82 receiving yards and 57 rushing) with a touchdown catch. McCaffrey leads all NFL running backs in catches (39) and receiving yards (387). … WR Kendrick Bourne had a career day last week against the Rams. He had 10 catches for a career-high 142 yards. When he last played against the Bucs, catching passes from Jones in New England in 2021, Bourne had 5 catches for 58 yards. … LB Fred Warner had a season-high 12 tackles against Los Angeles. Warner has at least 11 tackles in three of his past four games and is second in the NFC in tackles (50). He often plays well against the Bucs as he has no less than seven tackles in each game against Tampa Bay. … DE Bryce Huff has a sack in three of his last four games. … CB Renardo Green had a pass defensed last week. He has had a pass defensed in six of his last seven games. Last year against the Bucs, Green had five tackles and two passes defensed. … QB Baker Mayfield is 1 of 4 quarterbacks with two or more touchdown passes in four games this season. Mayfield has a touchdown pass in 16 straight home games, the longest streak in the NFL. … RB Rachaad White has four catches in each of his past two games. … WR Emeka Egbuka led the Bucs with 7 catches for 163 yards and a touchdown last week in a win at Seattle. Leads all rookies in catches (25), receiving yards (445) and touchdown catches (5). Became first player in NFL history with 25 or more catches, at least 400 receiving yards and five touchdown catches in his first five games. TE Cade Otton usually plays well against San Francisco. He had a breakout game for 2025 last week in Seattle with four catches. In the past two games against the 49ers he has also had four catches in each game. … DT Vita Vea has a sack in two of his last three home games. … ILB Lavonte David had nine tackles, a tackle for loss and a pick last week. He has had a tackle for loss in four games this year. … CB Jacob Parrish had career-high 9 tackles last week. He has a tackle for loss in two of his last three games.

Love the Baker journey video! The weather sounds good, the refs sound good, and our team is awesome. Go Bucs!

Thank you for the injury report note. I have been back and forth wondering if Purdy could pop back in since Mac is also injured but is supposed to play.

Enjoyed the Baker vid, Joe. I really don’t know much about college ball. so it was instructive. I do know what the Heisman Trophy win means. I can also see what Feisty Bake was talking about when he said all the early accolades and hype went to his head. He had to be humbled and grow up (his words). Bucs sure are reaping the rewards. We are long past due for some good luck and good karma. My stubborn self says 5-1, today. Go Bucs!!

Dam Joe sure do paint a doom & gloom picture for the Bucs today the Niners have just as many injures as Bucs if not more? We scored 38 last week against a pretty dam good defense and you think we will have more problems Niner’s than Seattle I don’t see it. It may turn out close but I think less trouble with Niners.

I’ve got to admit, I hated Mayfield when he was at Oklahoma. Mostly because of the flag planting in Columbus. But I loved it when Cleveland took him. I loved the enthusiasm he brought back to the Browns. My daughter was at the first game he played in. I tuned in Carolina games when he went there and was fortunate enough to see that first game with the Rams. My heart skipped a beat when he came to Tampa. So happy. This has been the most enjoyable time being a Buccaneers fan.
