Bucky Irving Seeking Additional Medical Opinions On His Foot

September 30th, 2025

Update.

Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said running back Bucky Irving was one of several Bucs players getting MRI tests. Bowles offered no additional details.

Tonight, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network offers up some details and it doesn’t sound good. It seems Bucky is looking for additional opinions.

Guys with minor injuries don’t often seek second, third or more opinions.

@MikeGarafolo: #Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving is still gathering medical opinions on what’s being termed an ankle and/or foot injury, sources tell me and @RapSheet. No one has ruled Irving out vs. the #Seahawks but he’s sore and his status is up in the air as the Bucs return to practice tomorrow.

If Bucky was only going to miss one game, why would he go through all the hassle of seeing additional opinions? That doesn’t add up for Joe.

If there is any bright spot to this, it is that the Bucs have a deep stable of running backs.

Great another injury. Every week someone else goes down. When does it end?

  2. Deuceswild78 Says:

    We are buc’d

  3. Aqualung Says:

Bucs Medical. Top class if you want the maximum number of dudes injured and maximize the recovery time. Don’t blame Bucky at all for getting outside opinions.

Soon playoff Lenny and Peyton Barber are getting signed. This injury carousel is something requiring a Glazer – hired external study / intervention. Last year was bad and seems mild compared to this.

  4. BayouBullet Says:

Something very odd about this whole situation.👀

  5. Pickgrin Says:

    Figures. Injury added to insult.

And it was a hip drop tackle that caused this.

The league has banned the play because its dangerous – but you almost never see it called – and the Bucs have now lost 2 star players to it in the last 11 months.

The league needs to start treating hip drop tackles just like intentional blows to the head – in that whether a ref throws a flag or not – the league will fine and if necessary, suspend players after the fact for these types of violations.

If the Refs aren’t calling it – and there’s no other source of accountability for this dangerous play – then players are going to keep using it – and the players they tackle this way (as we have unfortunately seen twice now in two years) – are going to keep getting hurt….

Hope its not too serious… Prayers for your quick healing Bucky……

  6. Greg Says:

This is definitely being kept on the down low. As sated we have a deep running back room. Time to step up and I feel they will!

  7. 1993BucsFan Says:

WELP… pounded the table for them to split the carries more between the 3 backs prior to the game. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise & the coaching staff will learn it’s ok to rotate running backs. Anyhow I definitely hope Bucky is ok & it’s not anything long term.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bucky had a foot problem previously..last year… if I remember correctly.

The illegal hip drop didn’t do us any favors..

  9. Bucsfan Says:

Bucs will be OK at RB it is the strongest position group on the team. Special teams has to be improved. I stated 3 weeks ago that if the debacle called special teams continued as it was it would lose games for us and it did. Hire Joe Marciano as Special teams coach and get a proven winner in there doing that most underrated job. Call Ndamakong Suh as he will be in shape and can still get it done.

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

It was a toe thing last year, my bad.

  11. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Second opinion means bad news…damn

  12. Usfbucs Says:

Or second opinion means he doesn’t trust the Bucs medical staff

  13. Mobucs Says:

Nobody gets a second opinion if he likes the first.

  14. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“If there is any bright spot to this, it is that the Bucs have a deep stable of running backs“

It’s not deep if one is hurt, now it’s just 2 RBs who haven’t been used much being forced into a less than desirable situation instead of rotating them from the jump.

Now we’ll see how good of a coach Grizz is or he can prove that 3rd time isn’t always a charm.

Even if he misses more than one game, and does come back foot/ankle/both, he won’t be close to 100% and watch Grizz go back to him as if he is lol

Coen wasn’t any better either, Sean Tucker went tf off last year against the saints then he was treated like hot sushi

  15. Bucs4Ever Says:

The MRI must show something wrong…yes?

    Otherwise, why the 2nd opinion?

I’m expecting surgery of some type is needed…hence…opinion #2(rehab)

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Hard to know anything at this point, but hopefully it’s just being cautious. And no, Bucky isn’t easily replaced. I love White, way more than 99% of the people here, who mostly wanted him cut before last year because they have zero idea what they’re watching and how blocking and play calling works. Anyways, White and Bucky are very different backs, and they compliment each other perfectly as each has strengths the other ones lack. Missing either one of the two is a very big blow.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

He caught a 70 yard bomb from Baker, AFTER the injury.

    How bad could it be?

  18. Bartow Buc Says:

It may be time for Tucker !!

    Go Bucs !!

  19. Saskbucs Says:

He stayed in the game… if it was that serious, surely he wouldn’t have been running in 72 yard TDs afterwards.

Unless something happened towards end of game that I missed.

Would hate for him to miss anytime but am confident in White and Tucker doing a great job and moving the ball.

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

JMark, Bucky got doped up at halftime. He was feeling no pain.

  21. Aqualung Says:

Bartow – Tucker sucks at blocking, last year proved he couldn’t pick up a blitz and this year aDd onto that matador skills at edge on punt protect. (Why he is doing that job is a whole ‘nother diatribe.)

If Bucky is really out, Jason will be adding a RB rather than putting Ole’ Tucker in the backfield to make sure Baker gets really bludgeoned. Josh Williams got high praise in preseason , some of that was his acumen for blitz pickup. Anyway, Rachaad is a beast and can carry the load. He’s been running better than Bucky in limited action this year.

Gizzard needs to grow up fast.

  22. BayouBullet Says:

Let’s hope it wasn’t some sort of lisfranc injury that he continued to play on

  23. Esteban85 Says:

To speculate, this seems like a surgery no surgery kinda second opinion

  24. unbelievable Says:

Fully agree. You typically only get a 2nd opinion when the subject of surgery is in play… so thats not good at all.

Guess we’ll know in the coming days but I’ve been beating the horn since week 2 or 3 of LAST season that our offense was always best when we utilized Irving and White (including both on field st the same time).

Majority around here wanted White gone and Irving to get all the carries. Coen did it and our offense struggled. Grizzard continued that this season, and here we are…

  25. Joe Says:

    Tucker sucks at blocking

Saw some nasty whiffs in training camp in pass pro.

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Tucker sucks at blocking, last year proved he couldn’t pick up a blitz and this year aDd onto that matador skills at edge on punt protect“

Regurgitated fan fiction, furthermore our offense the last 2 years has been about getting the ball out A.S.A.P and it is this year, so talking like that’s stopping Tucker from seeing the field in spite of what he can provide as a weapon is dumb. Especially considering Bucky sucks at pass pro himself

  27. Buddha Says:

Two of the three top NFC rosters, 49ers and Buccaneers ravaged with injuries the last two years. Really bad luck. Detroit was taken down last year. Not sure we can survive this.

  28. BucsFan81 Says:

Sounds like he might be done for the year. You don’t get opinions like that unless he needs surgery. White better be ready.

  29. Jeff Says:

The NFL needs to reevaluate the way weekly practice schedules are done, eliminate artificial turf and promote more time during preseason for essential players to at least be involved and on the field. This stashing starters in bubble wrap during preseason isnt working. Get a sense the drums will start beating soon for a new regime as this is getting too typical in Buc land and to tell you the truth, the recent drafts are starting to look like duds. Gonna be a wild ride through October and November folks.

  30. Aqualung Says:

We checked with LeeRoy Barber Nickerson, and also the current coaching staff, and it has been confirmed. Tucker can’t block a stationary object. However, for those that cheer on the arrogant but at least ignorant pontiff club, there’s a maroon to be your mascot,

  31. Vanessa Anne Says:

This certainly doesn’t sound good, without knowing for sure what type of injury he suffered.

Although I agree, you probably wouldn’t seek a second opinion for a simple injury or even a sprain.

First and foremost, I’m hoping it’s nothing too serious and Bucky is recovered from it sooner rather than later.

I guess I’m in the minority.

I’ve been saying since last year that we need to resign Rachaad and take better advantage of him and Sean Tucker.

Along with a quick recovery for Bucky, ideally this forces Grizz and Coach Bowles to start better utilizing the three-headed monster we have in our RB room.

As others have said, Tucker needs to work on a few things, but he proved his value last year during that Saints game. And Williams showed some serious flash throughout training camp this year.

  32. Buckit Says:

Whatever his injury is, he played on it for an additional half after it occurred. Like the WR position, we are stacked at RB, thank goodness. Tucker is no slouch, and this may bring Josh Williams up from the PS to return kicks.

  33. BucU Says:

“”He caught a 70 yard bomb from Baker, AFTER the injury.
    How bad could it be?””

Cody Mauch played the whole game then proceeded to be out for the year after the game.

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Dewey

It was in the 3-4th quarter…

  35. Chuckys Bucs Says:

Reminds me of Antonio Brown. Id bet the Bucs staff is saying he can play but Bucky feels it’s worse than they are leading him to believe therefore he wants a second opinion before going back on the field.

  36. Obvious Says:

Getting a second opinion doesn’t necessarily mean that’s it’s serious. Terry Mclaurin just did the same thing and Quinn stated that he’s headed in the right direction to play this weekend (after missing one week)and he doesn’t need surgery and came out of the game.

Who knows what will happen here but that’s a recent example.

  37. Old Florida is GOAT Says:

Let him sit. He more dangerous situationally anyway.

  38. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“However, for those that cheer on the arrogant but at least ignorant pontiff club, there’s a maroon to be your mascot”

Trying very hard to sound different, but keep it up human nickname generator

  39. Wayne perez Says:

What the hell is going on and they want to go to a 18 game season we can’t even make it thru 4 games good luck with that

  40. D-Rok Says:

Another recent Buc chose to eschew Bucs medical advice and sought other opinions.

    His name was Ryan Jensen.

One can only hope and pray that Bucky will be back on the field in a month or so and playing like his old self.

  41. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Bucky isn’t a great pass blocker either, so Tucker should be a fine replacement.

  42. Joe Says:

Bucky isn’t a great pass blocker either, so Tucker should be a fine replacement.

May want to watch All-22. Tucker is *bad* at pass blocking. Bucky is solid at blocking. Not great but not awful. There is nothing “fine” about Tucker’s pass blocking.

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

Bad news. The engine runs smoothly when Bucky is in there. He makes people miss.

  44. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Bucky is solid at blocking. Not great but not awful.“

Nonsense, he was getting pulled on 3rd down for Chaad a lot even this season

  45. Sam Says:

PFT is saying reporters are seeing him on crutches and in a boot at team facility

  46. orlbucfan Says:

Bet an Eaglet stepped on his foot and broke it. This is what having too much turnover at the head coordinator looks like. Too much emphasis on one player.

  47. Obvious Says:

Day to day with a chance to play this weekend according to Bowles via CBS.

Schefter says Bucs don’t consider it serious/long term via x

  48. Shilo Sanders Says:

I love Bucky like a son but now it’s time to appreciate franchise greats Chaad uno white and his durability
