GameDay Tampa Bay
September 28th, 2025Game 4
Eagles (3-0) at Bucs (3-0)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.
TV: FOX (WTVT-TV Channel 13, locally) with Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi. For a national TV map of where the game will be broadcast, click here.
Streaming: FOX One, NFL+. (Geographic restrictions may apply; subscription may be required).
Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game will also be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 231 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed).
Weather: Nice day in Tampa for footbawl! Tailgaters will enjoy partly sunny skies in the low 80s under partly sunny skies, per AccuWeather.com. By kickoff, that rises to 89 and that should hold steady throughout the game. At kickoff there is a minimal chance of rain but that will increase as the game grows old. In the fourth quarter, there will be a 24 percent chance of precipitation. If you believe that weather forecast is nearly an identical cut-and-paste of last week, you’re not wrong. Love Florida weather and its consistency!
Odds: Per Hard Rock Bet, as of Saturday, Bucs +3.5 (+155); over/under 44.
Referees: Alan Eck and his gang will work today’s game. This is good news for the Bucs. When Eck and his outfit work a game, in the three seasons Eck has been a referee, home teams have won at no less than a 66 percent clip. In Eck’s first season as an NFL referee in 2023, in games his posse worked, home teams won 81 percent of the time. Eck’s gang throws an average of 13 penalties a game. The league average this season is 14 flags a game.
Injuries: Eagles — Doubtful: CB Adoree’ Jackson (groin). Bucs — Out WR Mike Evans (hamstring), CB Christian Izien (quad). Questionable: WR Chris Godwin (ankle), DL Logan Hall (groin), QB Baker Mayfield (biceps), LT Tristan Wirfs (knee). (The NFL does not include players on injury reports who are not on a team’s active 53-man roster. Players on injured reserve or the practice squad are not on a team’s active 53-man roster.)
Outlook: Joe has a bad feeling injuries finally catch up with the Bucs today. One thing that can help the Bucs win this is for the defense to play lights out. Last week the Bucs defense collapsed in the fourth quarter allowing the Jets to get up off the mat. Bucs coach Todd Bowles blamed, in part, the heat. That’s weak sauce! The Bucs have been practicing in this heat since July. If the Bucs defense was truly drained, then what the hell have the Bucs been doing in practice the past two months? That didn’t make sense when Bowles said it last week and it doesn’t make sense to Joe now. Yes, Joe knows Bowles has had excellent luck against Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Can Bowles dial up another good game? Joe just has a hunch the Eagles are going to throw more, even with Saquon Barkley. So that means SirVocea Dennis, who has been burned on the pass more than once this season, needs to have a strong game. The Bucs’ rushing attack hasn’t really gotten in gear yet this season. The Eagles have been allowing 133 yards a game on the ground. So if the Bucs offense is going to do anything, Joe figures Bucky Irving has to get going. Will we finally see Tristan Wirfs used as a run blocker? Since Bucco Bruce Arians retired, it seems Bucs offensive coordinators are scared to run behind Wirfs. Assuming Wirfs starts today, the left side of one of the best offensive lines in the game will be back intact. So run the ball behind Wirfs. If the Bucs can unleash the run game, they’ve got a shot. If Chris Godwin starts today, it sounds as if he will be on a pitch count. So that tells Joe he’s not quite 100 percent. But some Godwin is better than no Godwin.
Fun facts: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was responsible for four touchdowns last week against Dallas, throwing for three touchdowns and running for a fourth. Every time Hurts has faced the Bucs he has thrown for a touchdown. In the last three times Hurts has squared off against the Bucs in the regular season, he has thrown for a touchdown and run for a touchdown. … RB Saquon Barkley has at least 50 scrimmage yards in his last 22 games. … WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith combined for 14 catches and 169 yards receiving in a win over Dallas last week. In his last game against the Bucs in the 2023 playoffs, Smith had eight catches for 148 yards. … DT Jordan Davis had a sack last week. … LB Zach Baun had two passes defensed and a pick against the Cowboys last week. … DB Cooper DeJean racked up a career-high nine tackles . … Bucs QB Baker Mayfield became the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era last week to lead his team to game-winning scores in the final minute in the first three games of the season. Since the start of the 2023 season Mayfield leads the NFL in touchdown passes (75). … RB Bucky Irving has at least 80 yards from scrimmage in six of his last seven games. … WR Emeka Egbuka leads all rookes in receiving touchdowns (three), is tied for second in total receptions (14) and is third in receiving yards (181). … DT Vita Vea had a sack in his last game against the Eagles. … ILB Lavonte David had a sack last week. Aims for his third-straight game with at least a half-sack. Last year against Philadelphia, David had two sacks and a forced fumble. … S Antoine Winfield had his 18th-career sack and 12th-career forced fumble last week. That’s the most sacks and forced fumbles by any defensive back this decade.

There are blindly faithful fans who refuse to accept that Bowles oversees a collapsing 4th quarter defense and blaims heat, other peoples’ feet and refuses to take an accountability for the atrocities. The Jets killed the Bucs in the 4th quarter, so a team playing in New Jersey is better acclimated to the heat than Todd’s team, eh?
No surprise. Same guy who said “I don’t know” when asked why sometimes last year the defense tightened up in the second half.
THe defense has to play lights out in order for the Bucs to have a chance given the quality of the opponent and all the injuries. Last time I remember a true defensive choke out was 2016 against the Seahags, before Mike Smith retired on the job and hung Dirk Koetter out to dry.

“Last time I remember a true defensive choke out was 2016”
I guess Super Bowl LV slipped your mind eh? you poor old sod….
The Bucs have a very good team this year and a better than average defense.
How about you cease with the constant Richard Cranium comments – sit back and enjoy the ups and downs of this exciting season like an actual fan….
Go Bucs! Lets get to 4-0 by whatever means necessary….

On what planet does this matchup not rate a 4:25 start, if not prime time? And in a Tampa September, yet? I know CBS has the doubleheader this week, but still.

Facts and analysis shows the Bucs defense is better vs last year. Analysis means depth and upside of the secondary. This is one of biggest changes vs last year when Bucs, always good vs the run under Bowles, now are better vs pass. Of course the battered OL this year offsets that. My prediction is if Wirfs can play the entire game, the Bucs win another nail biter
