History Suggests Bucs Should Be Playoff Bound

September 15th, 2025

History smiles on the Bucs after Monday’s win.

How important was this thrilling, gutsy win by the Bucs? Well, it pushed the Bucs to a 2-0 record to start the season. That’s big.

Why?

Well, per Rich Eisen of “The Rich Eisen Show” today, since the playoffs expanded in 2021, teams beginning a season 2-0 have a 77 percent chance of making the playoffs.

Teams that began the season 1-1 had a less than 50/50 shot of making the playoffs. An even 40 percent of teams that start the season 1-1 advance to the playoffs.

(Joe didn’t write down the percentage for teams that start 0-2 because it didn’t apply to the Bucs, but it was slightly over 10 percent.)

Is it too early to dream of the playoffs? Absolutely it is. But damn if Joe doesn’t like those odds.

Imagine what this Bucs team may be like if it gets healthy?

    Please no mid-season losing streak.

Keep the heat on and pound the Jets’ butts.

  2. geno711 Says:

I thought it was 45 of 451 teams that made the playoffs after an 0-2 start.
Pretty sure KC will still make it.

  3. Baking with Grizz Says:

As long as we keep winning let the injured players get fully healthy before bringing them back.

  4. Oxycondomns Says:

i dont fell comfortable about the jets bucs on road monday night. short week that bowles is unfamiliar with. lot of banged up players

  5. Danfan Says:

It’s a nice stat, but the amount of injuries is concerning, maybe recency bias but it seems way more than last year at the same stage

  6. Oxycondomns Says:

bowles unfamiliar with this version of jets i mean

  7. Pink Says:

What’s the odds of 3-0 teams? We got the Jets next week!

  8. Albel Says:

Josh Grizzard’s playcalling better get better or the bucs won’t get close to the playoffs.

  9. geno711 Says:

Albel — I thought that Grizz did an excellent job considering how physical their defensive line was against our OL. I thought he mixed in a few passes while protecting our QB and pounded the ball quite well considering we had an OL that was poor at pass protection.

You post this every year for almost 2 decades now. I’m just glad we’re finally past the 0-2 start version of this story.

  11. Woodman Says:

Oxy what are you blubbering about looks like Justin fields is not playing. I know it’s a trap game for us but it’s are home opener and after what I saw tonight they are not going to lay down

  12. Saskbucs Says:

That game was 27-13 if we had a healthy OL.

  13. Obvious Says:

I’d like to see what happens to those odds when you factor in the wins were on the road. I’m betting they move up somewhat significantly.

I would say that the jets game looks like a trap game because remember the broncos game week last year? But the reality is that with the injuries and if fields plays, they’re are capable of beating us.

We’re the better team but we have to TCB in the home opener next weekend with the eagles coming in the following week. If you can start 3-0 and have the chance to be 4-0 or at worst 3–1 in the first month, what a boom it will be to be healthy week 5.
