Buccaneers 20, Texans 19

September 15th, 2025

Kicker Chase McLaughlin

Perhaps Busch Gardens will add a new roller coaster and simply call it: Todd Bowles’ Buccaneers.

Another heart-attack, maul-the-Tums, pace-the-living-room night at the office for the Bucs.

Where did the Tampa Bay offense go for most of the second half? Wherever it went, it showed up in crunch time after the implosion of the Bucs’ special teams.

The legend of Baker Mayfield grew tonight with another game-winning drive. He had one last week to beat the Falcons. Mayfield’s heart was on his sleeve and his command and confidence was on display in the final 2 minutes.

Kudos to Bucs playcaller Josh Grizzard for being money late in games and getting Rachaad White more involved tonight. White was a huge weapon.

The Bucs survived Charlie Heck being a junior varsity fill-in for injured Luke Goedeke.

The Bucs survived a serious injury to Calijah Kancey.

The Bucs survived Emeka Egbuka looking mortal with a painful drop on the final drive.

Tampa Bay’s run defense was stellar again. And Bowles’ exotic blitzes did plenty to rattle Texans QB C.J. Stroud.

Team win. Huge road win. The Bucs are undefeated! And they won a freakin’ night game!

  3. Bucs 95 Says:

    Cardiac bucs

  4. Bee Says:

Great job by Baker and the offense on that last drive. The defense is legit although the pass rush needs help. And about that kicker….

  5. Leighroy Says:

I only took a baby aspirin before the game. Should have taken a big boy Aspin

  6. Aceofaerospace Says:

I’m sporting so bad, I may pass out!

  7. Clownwich Says:

Hell of a win. Lots of heart on that last drive. This is is beat up though. Big props to Mauch for blocking his butt off hobbling every play.

  8. JA Says:

That was something. I’ve been critical of Baker in the past, but he sure as hell proved me wrong tonight!
    Couldn’t be more impressed!

  9. George Nostej Says:

Mayfield is a grown man!!! Give that man his money. What a drive to win the game with 6 seconds left!!! BOOMER.

    That was a hard-fought win.

Not as ugly as last week, but a real battle-royale.

    Go Bucs!
It’s amazing how they found a way to win this game!!!

  16. Durango 95 Says:

Baker Mayfield does it again. Simple as that.

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

Dont stop feeding BOTH Bucky AND White, Grizzard.

    Excellent 1-2 Punch.

White played a hell of a game today.

  18. Dom Says:

What a gutsy win with a makeshift offensive line against one of the best front 7’s in the league. Championship caliber team win. The NFL better hope this team never gets healthy offensively

  19. Rjscheapseats Says:

The fire Bowles comments over/under is 9. This is lower than typical – because after this game it is kind of dumb.

  20. adam from ny Says:

this is a gritty gutsy team…!

    that was a war tonight – for a week 2 game…

bake and company were like the warriors trying to get back to coney island in the middle of the night !

  21. Dreux in the Canoe Says:

That gutsy win – in spite of all the injuries – could be very meaningful at the end of the season!

  22. bakermvp@gmail.com Says:

    Baker, Baker, Baker!!!
    MVP MVP MVP!!!!!

  23. Jamaican Jaris Says:

    Kancey injury?

  24. Irishmist Says:

I’ll stand by my take that if Wirfs comes back next week we should put him at right tackle. Baker won’t survive another game with Heck at right tackle.

  25. buc4evr Says:

On my way to the ER, my heart can’t take this anymore. lol.

  26. Bucsalltheway Says:

Byyye chase!!!…lfg baker is the man they played dirty all night

  27. Miller5252 Says:

What a game. Needed it with all the injuries. I don’t know how they get healthy for this Sunday. There’s a lot of Buc fans tonight that may be going to the ER for heart problems! What a game

  28. Davyboy Says:

    Bakie…

  29. Buc1987 Says:

Jeff…you’re an idiot again this week as you predicted another Bucs loss in a blowout. Stop predicting losses you idiot!

  30. Steven #55 Says:

It’s early Tuesday morning here in the UK so I’m gonna get some sleep. Great to get a night win for a change. Go Bucs

  31. Timbucs2 Says:

    Imagine when:

    – Wirfs is back
    – They stop dropping easy INTs (c’mon Lavonte!)
    – Godwin and J-Mac are back
    – We start making easy f’ing field goals
    – SirVocea learns how to cover (okay, that’s a big ask)
    – Maybe we tell Baker every possession is 2-min drill in the 4th Q?

  32. BucVoyager Says:

That’s my quarterback. So glad Baker is on our team.

  33. Oxycondomns Says:

the guy came in unblocked that was less dixons fault in my opinion

  34. Mr. Editor Says:

The new Cardiac Kid has arrived!

  35. Idroolpewter&red Says:

    Beeej,

I’m with you dude. I just turned 60 on Saturday. I can’t take this every week, but I’ll take it tonight!!!!

  36. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Not that the qbs haven’t tried, but it’s crazy we’ve played two games with zero turnovers

  37. Merryplanker777 Says:

    Massive Win! Go Bucs!

Any missed blocks in back??? Lol

  38. Tampa Bay Tailagaters Says:

I’m an excited fan of that bucs and can’t post to this site… Nice JBF!

  39. Mhystc Says:

Good win, we have a kicking problem.

  40. Beefsta Says:

    BAKER MOTHER FREAKIN MAYFIELD!
    MY GOODNESS!

These injuries are out of control though.

  41. orlbucfan Says:

Old timers know these are classic Cardiac Bucs. Two complaints: why no spy on Stroud and Grizzard is a rookie OC. Bucs O FINALLY played lights out at the very end.

  42. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

    We are 2-0!!!!!!!
    LFG!!!!!!!

  43. Defense Rules Says:

HUUUGE WIN! To come back like that with 2 minutes left against a good defense says a lot about the character of this team. Funny how things work out though. Good thing we stopped Houston’s 2-point try at the end.

  44. unbelievable Says:

Ugly win is an ugly win but I’ll take it.

Props to the offense for that final drive.

I will not forgive Licht for selling us on Charlie Heck. Dude is hot garbage. So is SVD

  45. Hearty Dikerson Says:

    – Heck is actually impressive as a run blocker. Would like to see how he looks as a guard

    – R. White has never looked better as a pure RB

    – We didn’t miss anything without Kancey. I’m starting to think he’s more of a liability than a plus DT

    – Seeing very, very little out of Reddick or Yaya. That’s a problem

    – Winfield looking much better this year

  46. Hunter Says:

Any chance we can call it the “Charlie Heck Revenge Game” to give the man some confidence since he’ll probably be seeing the field again?

  47. Sapp 2 Fundamentally Sound Says:

Such a Great time to be a BUCCANEERS FAN!!!!1

  48. Stan says Says:

If ever this was a team win, this one is definitely it. Great job Buccaneers 2-0 again.

  49. Anyhony Says:

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug!!!

  50. B Says:

They let Chubb score to set it it up.

  51. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

Loved Baker’s heart and grit but boy did those 4th quarter runs make me nervous.

Here’s to winning a night game!!

  52. Obvious Says:

Unbelievable win. Good teams find ways to do so, and when you add in the tackles and WRs being injured….on the road on Monday night, wow!

Let’s get wirfs and Luke healthy for Sunday.

  53. dbbcpa Says:

I went to the Bucs first game in 1976. Baker is quickly becoming my all time favorite Buccaneer. He was a Bad Ass again tonight. Just a warrior. No one plays harder than Baker. Go Bucs!!

  54. Hodad Says:

Dennis was benched late in the game.

  55. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

    Running game is BACK!!!!!!

  56. Muscle Hamster Says:

Last week I jumped out my couch, this week I cried a little. This can’t be healthy

  57. DirtyBucs Says:

Just win baby. Ugly wins are still wins. Go Bucs!

  58. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

Now that we know your bets, we understand your kudos to the players better.

  59. Rjscheapseats Says:

All the more impressive with the injuries on the OL.

  60. Defense Rules Says:

Costly game though. Both Kancey and Goedeke knocked out of the game with injuries, plus a few others beaten up pretty badly. Hopefully both come back quickly.

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Texans are much better than they seem. That team fights to the end.

We were battling them and the MNF Curse. Baker and the offense was amazing on the last drive.

We really need our OL to get healthy. These substitutions are going to get Baker injured.

    How did Heck look?
(I listened to the game this week)

  62. Leopold Stotch Says:

I hope Kancey is okay. This team is dropping like flies. Really hope we can hang on and get healthy fast.

  63. Danbucsfan Says:

Wins like these are team wins, couldn’t have said it better Joe. McLaughlin will be fine IMO and great to see the defense lead the way. But I don’t know about the rest of you, but I was 100% confident in #6 with 2 mins left to pull out the win. Great game for the running game as well.

    Beeej,

I’m with you dude. I just turned 60 on Saturday. I can’t take this every week, but I’ll take it tonight!!!!

    I turned 65 on Saturday!

  65. Chris Says:

    NEED A KICKER

  66. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Go Bucs!!!!

Sign Baker to that extension please

  67. Davyboy Says:

Well, well, well 80 yards in 2 minutes 4 THE WIN!!!

  68. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Massive road victory under the lights. Baker and the boys flow to 2-0.

    LFG!

    GO BUCS!

  69. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We don’t need a kicker. This one is the most accurate in Bucs history. He’ll overcome.

  70. ATLBuc Says:

The best defensive call was letting Chubb score to preserve time on the clock. To Enormous road wins!! Now we go home to face the mighty Jets without their starting QB. We’ve probably faced two of the best d lines.

  71. Leopold Stotch Says:

Someone on the thread suggested it was Dixon who is screwing with Chase. Maybe he’s onto something. Plus that lackadaisical punt drove me bananas. Todd Bowles favorite weapon nearly cost us the game.

  72. Lunchmeat Says:

    For the record:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally won a game in Houston. Never happened before. Not against the Texans and not against the Oilers.
By the way, did you notice the Bucs’ clock management on that final drive? Perfect!

  73. Davyboy Says:

The announcers said “the defense is out of breath from chasing Baker Mayfield this entire second half”. Melvin what do you think??

  74. Stpetematt Says:

Good God. Defense was mostly awesome in this game with a couple slip-ups. Our clock management/use of timeouts was essential and BRILLIANT in this game. Baker tunneled through a completely collapsed pocket to convert that 4th and 10. Holy crap! My heart nearly exploded when he started running laterally right on the first down line. Bwahahaha! My blood pressure must be 1000/500 at this point.

    How exhilarating.

  75. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

More leading with the run game moving forward, as our OL stands right now that’s the strength of this offense.

Defense held us down all game, big goal line stand just like last week that went our way.

Plenty to clean up in all 3 phases

  76. orlbucfan Says:

Why wasn’t SVD assigned QB spy duties? He’s a linebacker who everyone says is a bust. So, that’s on Bowles and the LB coach. Stroud would have been sacked a hurried more than he was in this typical Bucs nail biter.

  77. Davyboy Says:

Gutsy team win all the way!!!!

  78. orlbucfan Says:

Joe, get rid of autoedit. I hate having to constantly proof my comments.

  79. Gofortheface30 Says:

Oh really JA, his 41 touchdowns and 4500 yards last yr didn’t prove you wrong already. It was tonight when he finally proved you wrong. Lmao, great bro – I’m sure that Baker will be sleeping better tonight now that he has finally “earned”your validation

  80. Allen Lofton Says:

Nobody was betting the Bucs would win in the fourth quarter 🙄

That final drive was legendary, like pulling an upset like no other.

Bake is looking like a definite top 5 Quarterback in 2025.
With only seconds remaining in the game Bake pulled off the impossible.
It will take a miracle for someone to beat out Baker for MVP this week.

  81. Kenton Smith Says:

“And they won a freakin night game”. Really, Joe? You’re gonna need to do a little better than that. I mean you’ve beat up Bowles and Baker enough on that. Maybe not an apology, but…

  82. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SVD is quickly blowing his chances. Guess LB will be at least two picks in the draft.

  83. Seemore Bucs Says:

Ugly wins are so beautiful. Let’s make it 3-0 against New Jersey next Sunday in the home opener.

  84. Stpetematt Says:

Really worried about Kancey. His arm was just hanging. Also worried about Mauch who had a limp the whole second half and gutted out playing anyway. What a warrior. Our team is the walking wounded now. Yikes!

  85. Marky mark Says:

Special teams was putrid. offense good. Defense spectacular.

  86. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If Baker were a tad more accurate and fumbled less, he’d be Brees-like.

  87. Obvious One Says:

    Ca Lose!!!
I thought we were done for! Man… But Baker! Buddy COMES THOUGH! As we proceed to Suck the Wind RIGHT OUT OF THEIR SAILS WITH EACH YARD TAKEN..It WAS AN EXCEPTIONALLY SATISFYING WIN! From sad to Glad!

I’m happy for Joe and the others winning those bets (if you were betting FOR the Win that is. Not sure about the others) Because as All could see that after Luke went down, (of which I had a Bad Feeling was going to happen Even If Geodeke started the game. I Was Right) It got BAD especially for Baker who’s head was on a Permanent Swivel for the duration of the game.

The guy(Baker) just has a way of turning my frown upside down. And THAT’S WHY I’m a staunch supporter of his since he won me over shortly after he got here. THAT VERY SAME GUSTO KEEPS ME BELIEVING WE HAVE A CHANCE NO MATTER WHAT! Baker IS the Real Deal!

A GREAT GAME in the end and it makes it CLEAR that we NEED our Humpty Dumpty O line put back together Again! At this point it’s our Greatest Weakness

  88. Itzok Says:

    god i love baker

  89. Winny Testaverde Says:

I fear Kancey tore his pec…which typically ends a season or if they try to play through it at 1/2 strength.

The lackey ref in the booth sure seemed to be rooting for The Texans on every call he was asked about.

Excellent win…in Prime Time no less.

  90. Durango 95 Says:

Team is so banged-up they need a bye week already.

  91. Bucs Guy Says:

Texans were close to blocking a punt all night and finally got one near the end. Then the refs picked up the flag when Smith pushed our gunner in the back to allow for a big return

  92. Davyboy Says:

80 yards in 2:00 minutes for the win!!!! How many times!!!!🤣🤣

  93. Bucs Guy Says:

McLaughlin hit the upright again. Has he ever hit the upright twice in his career prior to this year?

  94. Beeej Says:

    TWO games, TWO Baker comebacks

  95. Shak Says:

That 4th down 1st down by baker was the key!! Great grit from him!!

  96. JReel Buc Says:

Start the kid out of SMU the Kancey project is over… hes quick but too small he doesnt need to be tall but his frame isnt made for it. Compare Texans LBs to Dennis they play the position how its supposed to be played. I dont know what Dennis is doing. Ill give Bowles credit for his blitz packages they were the difference on Defense

  97. orlbucfan Says:

Yeah, and the refs muffed a roughing the punter call near the end of the first half. Bucs had to punt and it was blocked, not touched by the Texans. No flag. Getting fed up with that one sided sh1t.

  98. Obvious One Says:

And Kenton, THAT WAS a D@mn the Torpedoes WIN! It’s not quite a “full stop” on the “Monday night losing” just yet, BUT IT IS A GREAT START…

Even the defense came to play! At the last possession the Texans had that sunk all of our hearts, it took that long for the D to look tired. They got that touchdown Just Too Easily… HOWEVER…. FOR THE MOST PART…. And there’s Still Plenty to Point Out that Sure Could’ve been better, … THEY FAUGHT LIKE BRAVES! I Have Flowers for the D overall. They Earned Them “Freshly Picked”

    GO BUCS!

  99. Obvious One Says:

I DON’T CARE what Anybody says, We GUTTED OUT THIS WIN! WE HANDS DOWN “EARNED IT”!

  100. DoooshLaRue Says:

Great win especially being so depleted on the OL.
    The D did enough too.
Can’t wait for Wirfs, Godwin and Goedeke to get back.

  101. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Grit. Pure grit, led by no. 6!

  102. Davyboy Says:

And THAT was against a top 10 defense with a horribly beaten up OL with 2 of our best receivers out. Baker said, we are going to drive the field with 2 minutes left for the second time in just 2 weeks and if we can DRIVE IT DOWN THEIR THROATS against this top 10 defense we can do it against anybody!!! Wait till all the boys get back we are going to be UNSTOPPABLE. IF the line can survive.

  103. Watcher Says:

The difference for Chase is that he is doing thr overly technical kick-offs now. I think it is messing with his chi>
