Seems Like Jacob Parrish May Play Some Outside Corner Against Atlanta

September 6th, 2025

Rookie Jacob Parrish is not just a slot corner.

Joe knows there are Bucs fans panting over the possibility that starting cornerback Jamel Dean is benched or waved goodbye.

So when Joe read the following quotes from Bucs coach Todd Bowles yesterday, it made Joe wonder what’s up?

Now Bowles likes players who can multitask. And maybe this is why Bowles talked about playing rookie corner Jacob Parrish elsewhere in the secondary other than nickel corner, where the Bucs have him tentatively plugged in as the starter.

Christian Izien (oblique injury) is one of the two Bucs defensive backs out for Sunday against the Dixie Chicks. And while in the past Bowles has noted Parrish can play outside corner or nickel, Joe is wondering if Bowles will give Parrish a spin at safety for a couple of plays.

After discussing the potential lack of healthy defensive backs, Bowles was asked if Parrish will play slot corner.

“This week, yes – at times,” Bowles said. “It won’t be all the time, but depending on the package, yes.”

Hhhmmm? So if Parrish doesn’t play all the snaps at nickel, that leaves outside corner or safety.

When Bowles was asked about depth at outside corner, Bowles again brought up Parrish.

“It would probably be [Jacob] Parrish,” Bowles said who would replace Zyon McCollum or Dean if they get hurt. “We’ve got to juggle around the nickel [cornerback] spot.”

Joe hopes Parrish is on the field a lot Sunday. He just makes plays and always seems to be around the ball. He’s the kind of guy you don’t ever want to take off the field.

Joe thinks Parrish is going to be a helluva player.

Sounds good. Our problem is in the middle of the field. Drop back edge rushers and other blunders to watch out for. Is Reddick good at dropping back?

  2. NYCBucs96 Says:

Bowles likes to confuse his QBs so I can see him swapping T. Smith w/ Parrish on a few plays to confuse Penix as to who’s the safety & who’s the nickel on a few plays. Other than injuries I can’t see him not being anything other than nickel.

  3. Hodad Says:

I don’t see him lining up at safety, Bucs have safeties like Merriweather for that. He’ll be the starting slot, and if anything happens to Dean, or Zyon he goes outside. Don’t remember Parrish getting any snaps at safety this preseason.

Great game last nite in Brazil. We play both teams. Tuff Tuff schedule. Seems the NFL gave SC Corinthians a free New field. Gone are the Pele days of top Brazilian Soccer. Neymar was in the stands. He is in retirement phase in Brazilian soccer. Could have joined Messi in Miami.

  5. SteveK Says:

I agree with you, Joe, keep the youngry ball hawk on the field. I hope he picks Penix off and gets a couple really nice tackles this Sunday.

Maybe the mad scientist puts Vita Vea at saftey?

  7. Larrd Says:

From everything I read it sounds like Parrish may be the best outside corner. Most teams use three wideouts and the Bucs have three good corners now. I wish Morrison could make it four.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

To be fair, even before game 1 you have to have a plan for Dean going down. 😯

  9. Fred Says:

    So Dean is hurt already?

  10. WhatTheBuc Says:

I believe that Bowles is going to put Zyon at nickel because London plays the slot and he’s about a foot taller than Parrish. I think that’s what Bowles is saying without spelling it out.

  11. Kgh4life Says:

Falcons like to use Drake London in the slot, that would be a bad matchup for Parrish. If that’s the case Zyon will move to the slot to cover London and Parrish will move to the outside. At least that is my thinking.

  12. Doug RR Martin Says:

Kinda over the constant reminders of getting rid of Dean. That’s our guy man. You’ve said it, we get it. He has to deliver. Now lay it to rest maybe? We need Dean, he’s done a lot for us, and he’s on a reasonable contract. The more you say it the more it becomes a thing. Just let him be man.

  13. WhatTheBuc Says:

    No Fred. Reading comprehension please.

  14. WhatTheBuc Says:

Lol kgh, jinx. I think we typed the same thing about the same time.

  15. WutdaBucisthis Says:

Man, I just don’t wanna see our rushers dropping in coverage all the time. Happens too much in any given game. Quit playing 10 yds off the line when it’s 4 yds for a first. Looking at you Dean. Anyway, go Bucs. I’m all in

Did Joe just find worth in worthless preseason games?

  17. Aqualung Says:

The genius loves to play everyone at every position for that coveted versatility, so be prepared for the package on 3rd and 3 where Reddick, Vea and Hall all fire back 25 yards from the line of scrimmage and Parrish is lined up at NT. It’s genius.

All will be revealed come 1pm Sunday…let the fun begin!

  19. Saskbucs Says:

We better not have to be as concerned about the middle of the field, not in game 1 anyway. A healthy Winfield and Dennis should make those windows smaller. If Pitts has himself a game we have a problem.

  20. HC Grover Says:

Dean will pull a hamstring running on to the field from the tunnel.

  22. Lt. Dan Says:

Thanks Forrest! Sounds delicious! On to Atlanta!

  23. Woodman Says:

Marky Mark we don’t play either of those teams this year.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Slot corner is your top corner in the modern NFL where most teams use the slot to move the ball and rack up big numbers. Obviously outside corners cover bigger names in general, and that’s where you get bigger plays, but slot corners are the evolution of what Ronde Barber did – you have to be able to tackle and cover and mix it up with bigger guys, cover TEs, etc.

  25. dumboldguy Says:

He just needs to be on the field. He’s the only ball hawk in our secondary.
