Brian Baldinger Spreads Tez Johnson Love
August 26th, 2025
Makes things happen.
Tez Johnson added another fan to his crowd of boosters over the weekend.
While breaking down tape of the Bucs’ final worthless preseason game from Saturday night, Brian Baldinger of NFL Network came away with a clear vision.
Seeing Johnson catch all eight of his targets for 58 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo convinced Baldinger that Johnson is a playah.
“The guy just makes plays,” Baldinger said on his Twitter account, breaking down tape of Johnson. “That’s what he does. That’s who he is.”
Johnson’s shifty ability belies his 40 time, Baldinger said.
“He didn’t run very fast at the combine, right?” Baldinger said. “But the guy is just a player.
“There is a roll for Tez Johnson on this team. … You have to root for Tez Johnson.”
Joe is so happy to see Johnson is destroying the narrative of a 40 time. It’s such an overblown stat (except for offensive linemen, believe it or not). If football was all about running fast in a straight line, every dude who ran sprints in the Olympics would be on an NFL roster.
The game is football, not track. That’s why “this Joe” pays zero attention to the glorified indoor track practice each winter in Indianapolis.
.@Buccaneers @tezMania15 all he does is get open; don't care about his size nor his speed. We all know what a football plays like. #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/SNgGeHYh2n

Hope the best, for Texmania
160 pounds yikes, football is a brutal game.
Well see how long he can last.
It looks like they have a returner now

Apparently I’m commenting on the wrong article. I was looking for the one about the backup quarterback being cut that has produced over 200 comments, haha. A bunch of weirdos freaking out overcutting a quarterback who’s been here for 5 years and collected millions and who all fans were hoping would never get a meaningful snap in a real game.
As for Tez, I am pulling for him like I assume all of us are.

Steven… no one cares what you think. He was clearly the most knowledgeable qb outside of baker on our roster when it comes to terms of our offense. He looked way sharper than teddy. Keep that same energy all season if baker goes down.

The 40 times are about as useful as the meaningless preseason games. There was one famous player who ran a to slow 40 time for a coach named Ray Perkins. I think his name was Emmitt Smith. He went on to have a pretty good career. Yeah, that’s why the game is played on a field instead of a track. Back to preseason games. Rosters are usually set during, or even before training camp. Sometimes a player like Teddy becomes available, and turns things upside down. Coaches, G.M.’s are humans who go with their gut when it comes time to picking their players. Fans don’t always agree, but we should root for the team, not just certain players.

Will Tez’s “roll” (sic) be a brioche, a Kaiser or maybe a nice sourdough?

Dude is confident you heard his draft call, he’s going to make a lot of teams regret life lol

Could be a nice match up piece to play around with.

One thing I worry about with Bridgewater is he may not be around all that long… however Trask was not the answer as our backup. He was…okay.

I think he could be around a long time.
I also need to know why the 40 matters for offensive lineman!

Kind of like one of the best NFL quotes of all time. When Bum Phillips was asked what it meant that Earl Campbell could never finish a one mile run in camp.
“If it’s 4th and a mile, we don’t give Earl the ball”

Too early in the morning for this. Lunch is a ways away!

Nicholas:
It’s weird. Read a story (from a reputable source) that showed the uncanny connection between good offensive linemen and a good 40. The analysis didn’t do a deep dive, just showed the (weird) connection. That o-linemen who run a good 40 often turn out to be productive, or at least have long careers.
Will have to make a point to ask Jason Licht about this.

He ran a 4.51, that’s not exactly slow, his instincts are what makes him exciting

Watch these plays closely and .marvel at the scheme. Really liking Grizzard!

EE, Parrish and Johnson are the 3 players I hope make the team. EE is already a given. Johnson impressed me with his slide down to keep the DBs from a possible dirty tackle. Wonder if CG14 has been giving Tez some tips?

You can’t measure quickness in the 40, you can’t measure change of direction or understanding being in the place where QB can easily find you. Moving the chains is what this player can do. He doesn’t look like a rookie the way he got open and and turned upfield. He’s smart, when he sees a tackler that has an easy hit on him he gets his head and chest down. Nice role player.
