Jacob Parrish Looks Like The Corner The Bucs Envisioned

August 22nd, 2025

Rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish knocks the ball away from Titans receiver Elic Ayomanor.

Joe is glad and a little bit scared that Bucs’ shotcallers in the personnel department are seeing the same thing in players that Joe has.

Joe typed from the combine in February that if the Bucs were to think of drafting a receiver, Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka would be a smart choice because he’s a Chris Godwin clone.

Then Bucs in-house video was released of the 2025 pre-draft process, where Bucs suits, including AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, all noted how Egbuka reminded them of Godwin.

On the first day of rookie minicamp, with the same draft class as Egbuka, one defender stood out to Joe as a potential player. That was third-round pick Jacob Parrish.

Asked about Parrish yesterday, Bucs assistant general manager Rob McCartney noted Parrish has been making plays since his first practice.

“It’s been great,” McCartney said of Parrish’s progress at One Buc Palace. “He was kind of like that since Day 1 of rookie minicamp. [He had] another great practice today. We just keep stacking days and that’s all we can ask from him right now.

“He’s had really good practices and really good in-stadium stuff, too. I think he’s ready to go. We’re obviously very excited about him.”

This Parrish always seems to be around the ball. We don’t know if he will ever be an interception king but aside from that, Parrish appears to have the makings of a ballhawk. He’s in position to make plays, including picks.

Hard to get picks if you are out of position to get one.

Egbuka has been the breakout star for the Bucs’ rookies in training camp, no doubt. But on defense, Parrish is the guy making noise.

It will take a few weeks, but he will learn what he’s supposed to do is be way deeper than the receiver so he can’t get beat deep. Todd doesn’t mind giving up lots of yards, or first downs, he hates getting beat deep, and he gives up more points every year as people like Dan Quinn realize taking what Todd gives them is like taking candy from a sleeping baby.

Excited to see these guys week 1.

We might need a new doctor to help protect these new potential stars. Thought it was a non-story but Strouds reporting the Bucs dropped the ball with Wirfs.

  3. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Aqua, Todd said no more soft cushions this year. We had no safeties last year.

  4. Kgh4life Says:

I wonder if Bowles will sit Parrish in the final preseason game? Parrish will be the starting nickel.

  5. Gipper Says:

Anyone who saw the Steelers preseason game saw Jamel Dean in his usual form. One drive saw him burned for a deep pass, followed by a PI penalty, and then a TD pass. On this website many here think Dean is an All Pro headed eventually to the HOF. Dean is lucky after the last couple of years to still be on the Bucs roster. Time to move on from JD and play Parish.

Outside all day long….you know it Todd!

  7. Hodad Says:

Looks like they found a keeper in Parrish, what about Morrison? While the front office should pat themselves on the back for EE, and Parrish did they blow a 2nd round pick on Morrison? No denying his skill level, but what good is it if he can’t take the field? For such a young man it has to be concerning he’s missed this much time with a hammy. Is it a strain, tear, is he headed to the PUP to start the season? Seems like the media forgot asking about him.

Some people love to take a feel good story and turn it into a negative. It must suck waking up everyday for you!!

  9. BucU Says:

Did Parrish even miss a single practice in OTA’s or training camp? Dude is reliable as they come. Morrison? Not so much. His stock is trending downward until proven otherwise. A second round pick is too damn valuable to take a chance on a guy who has a history of being hurt.

I’m not a huge fan of Dean, but PR has a point that the long play and a second play on that drive blamed on him were actually caused by Tykee who is still transitioning to safety in this defense.

  11. Hodad Says:

Sorry, we can’t all be Polly Anna. I’d like to know what the status of our second round pick is. I had high hopes for the kid, even saying he’d beat out Dean to start the season. The silence on him is concerning, and I’m voicing my opinion. That’s what this site is for. Longtimebuc, glad you see the world through rose colored glasses, I don’t. I’m not down on you for being so positive, show the same respect for a different prospective.

The untrained eye wouldn’t realize this, but I commented in real-time in the game thread “wtf are the safeties” because we were in cover-2 man and had Tykee been where he was supposed to that’s a PBU at the least by Smith or Dean.

Bowles was talking about Morrison the other day. Sounds like he *may* be good to go Week 1. But he’s not starting. And he’s not playing Saturday night.

  14. Jeffrey Becker Says:

i’m expecting flash plays and flags lol. tackling is choice though.

  15. Pickgrin Says:

Sounds like Parrish is ready to make some plays and make an impact right out the gate as a rookie. That is so rare at the CB position – perhaps the most difficult position in the NFL regarding transitioning from the college game to the pros….

Lots of talented young players take 2 or even 3 years before they are ‘ready’ to play significant snaps at CB in the NFL… (Ronde Barber – prime example). Some talented college players never get there (Hargreaves – prime example).

What’s really exciting is the amount of speed we now have across the board in the secondary…. CBs in particular…. I’m quite sure that no other team in the league has THREE starting CBs that can all run a sub 4.35 40 yard dash…..

  16. D-Rok Says:

I’ve got a good feeling about Parrish. Going against our WR room in practice, then looking good in both preseason games, yep, I think he’s a “dawg.” A football player who happens to play cornerback. He could be the missing link in our secondary.

    Go Bucs ! ! !

  17. MJ Says:

notice how opposing qb’s pick on Jamel Dean?

  18. Rod Munch Says:

It’s remarkable how clueless the Dean haters are, they never have any idea what they’re watching or who is responsible for what. Truly clueless every time they open their mouths.

  19. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Funny rod that’s how many feel bout u also don’t call, the kettle black

  20. orlbucfan Says:

LongtimeLkldBuc, some of the regulars on here would be b1tchin’ about the Bucs even if they won the NFC Championship every season. That’s their prerogative. Some of it is deserved, but a lot of it is hot air. I hope Morrison works out. Parrish is definitely a keeper. I hope Buc Luck backs off this season!

  21. 0-26 tic season holder Says:

Tez Johnson!! The wideout room is stacked!
