Doubt Benjamin Morrison Has Had A “Huge” Setback
August 18th, 2025
#AtlantaReady?
Bucs rookie corner Benjamin Morrison seemed to be turning the corner in Bucs training camp. Then, he suffered a hamstring injury. At the time of the injury, Joe was told Morrison would miss all of preseason.
Todd Bowles was asked about Morrison’s status in his day-after press conference on Sunday. He surprised Joe by explaining Morrison missing weeks of practice and preseason is no big deal.
“I don’t think it’s a huge setback,” Bowles said. “He watches film all the time, comes in early, and puts the tape on. He wants to learn.
“It’s just about physically going through the reps. Mentally, he goes through them. He’s not a guy to just sit in the training room and be hurt. He’s trying to get better at all the little things, so when he comes back, he’s ready to go.”
So Bowles didn’t exactly rule out Morrison playing in Week 1 at Atlanta, provided his hamstring is ready to go.
“We think he’ll be ready,” Bowles said. “We won’t have any problem putting him in when we need to put him in.”
That’s great that Bowles has confidence in the rookie. Joe’s question is, can Morrison play safety?

He sure can’t play safety if he can’t get on the practice field.

Dean won the job by default. It’s absurd to believe Morrison can play week one with no camp, no joint practices, no preseason games. He’s a rookie who hasn’t played since 2023, not a vet who’s been there, done that. If I was Bowles I’d have him practice this week regardless how his hammy feels. If he makes it through practice, start him Saturday. If he can’t do either, PUP list him, and move on.

Amazing how some folks bend over backwards to make something out of nothing. Hamstring injuries take time to heal as we all know. It’s unfortunate that Morrison’s happened when it did, and it’s surely got Benjamin concerned & possibly anxious about getting back in there. BUT … it is what it is, and Bowles seems to be trying to keep Morrison’s spirits up. Good for him.
From the quotes that I see, all that Todd said was ‘I don’t think that it’s a huge setback’ and then he goes on to say that Morrison is still working hard to learn what he can, and that he believes he’ll be ready for Atlanta. Strikes me as being quite a bit different from ‘missing weeks of practice and preseason is no big deal’.

Morrison will be fine-Edge rush is the big concern.
August 18th, 2025 at 7:23 am
It looks like we will have a banged up team when we meet the Falcons. Morrison will probably see little action. We will see if he really can take Dean’s job by mid season.
Go Bucs!
August 18th, 2025 at 7:23 am
Will Morrison be fine? He has a injury history that took him out of the first round. He had one good season as a freshman, and hasn’t done anything football wise since. Until he shows up, and does it, we’re hoping on potential. We need players who can actually play, not potential, and hope.

We went from thinking everyone might be ready for training camp to the following: Tristan Wirfs – knee surgery. Chris Godwin – a ssecond surgery and not yet seen running. David Walker – out for season. JJ Roberts – out for season. Benjamin Morrison – hamstring and not practicing. Tez Johnson – missed time. Jalen McMillan – neck. Rachaad White – groin. Kam Johnson, Cade Otton, Trey Palmer, Dennis Houston, Sua Opeta, Josh Williams and others missing multiple practice days. Antoine Winfield – lower leg. Christian Izien – oblique. Michael Pratt – back (cut). Anthony Walker, Jr. – leg. What started the season of hope and hype as a stacked roster is already, for the moment, apparently thin at receiver, tackle, safety and corner.

bowles doesn’t want to admit a wasted second round pick if this guy can’t play
August 18th, 2025 at 8:26 am
Hodad: not sure where you are getting your information on Morrison, not of it is accurate regarding his college playing time.
August 18th, 2025 at 8:51 am
lol mental reps my arse. Bowles won’t risk losing games just to get this guy reps in a real game if he doesn’t get out there in this last preseason game. It’ll take him a couple games otherwise

Why do the Bucs draft guys that have a history of injuries and surgery. Especially if they have no outcome on the effectiveness on the surgery? Bucs should have never drafted this guy…. I think Bowles just makes up excuses and stories about players to make the press go away. Of course Morrison will not be ready when the real bullet start to fly or when Dean goes down by game 4.
Bottom line:
Bowles won’t tell the truth about injuries until the player goes on IR
Medical staff is clueless about the effect of past injuries, or Jason doesn’t listen?
Trainers are dealing Rehab on players with injuries that are far worse than reported.
Most rookies that miss significant time get destroyed in the regular season.

Saw quite a few guys really gassed , you won’t have many 4 th quarter stops on D if they don’t get in better wind shape . It seems to be a product of a Bowles team and it clearly shows defensively late in games . Guys have to stay on the field in practice for 12 plays and run …………. The in better shape fighter will win the last round or two the majority of the time and that is many times the Game / match …..there are no knockouts in football…….. the lesser skilled fighter in better shape wins allot of games ………….. they call it heart, determination , will , etc but it really is being in better wind / cardio shape …….. Every skilled player especially on D should be able to easily run a 6:50 mile ……. No Way even half could , pathetic !! And that’s on Bowles n Licht . For the love of the game you can’t use your talent if you’re not in good cardio shape !!

Week 1 vs ATL is nearly 3 weeks away, I have a hunch Winfield and Izien will be cleared to play.
I wish Bowles had given an update on McMillan.
Morrison not expected to be a starter early in the season, so once he’s healed I doubt he’ll just be thrown into the lineup. He’ll be worked in gradually.
August 18th, 2025 at 9:21 am
I doubt Morrison will be ready for wk1. This will be the 2nd time he injured his hamstring. The staff will be more cautious with him.

Drafts injury prone player.
Player gets injured.
(insert surprised pikachu face)

This was reported 4-5 days ago. Jason said on a podcast last week that he hoped to have him back for the season opener.
The scary headline fooled me. I thought it was something new.

Same shyt. Different year.

What I know about Morrison is he shut down his last season at ND to have a second hip surgery. As a Buc, he’s missed most of camp including joint practices, and all preseason games so far. I know we’ve gotten more value from our 3rd round corner than our 2nd. I was super high on this guy, but only if he could stay healthy and play. Right now he’s another Voss Dennis. Hope we don’t have to wait till his 3rd season like Voss to see what we’ve got. Year 3 we’re still waiting to see Dennis play a full season. Hope that’s not Morrison.

David_54 ain’t wrong.

Well it looks pretty rough, I don’t like the injuries even though it’s not the core players , those defensive players were needed. We saw what happened last season, and not having enough of a rotation it’s harder on the guys that are out there. I hope McMillan is alright cause I can definitely tell a little something about the back, I’m older and at this point have suffered what my body is telling me before further tests, a second failed fusion of the lumbar area . Let’s try not to lose anymore players, the Superbowl is not far from being an after thought as it is. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
August 18th, 2025 at 11:03 am
Anybody can sell popcorn in the end zone bleachers in Todd’s defense, so no big deal he misses practice.
August 18th, 2025 at 11:55 am
Hodad — It is ok to first admit that you were wrong about Morrison only having a good freshman year.
Then it could be fair to raise your other concerns.
But your original statement: “He had one good season as a freshman, and hasn’t done anything football wise since.”
The dude had 10 PD and 3 interceptions that 2nd season. PFF said in the August 2024 report that Morrison’s posted the highest single-coverage grade since 2022 of all corners in Power Five conferences.
It’s always ok to admit mistakes.
August 18th, 2025 at 12:03 pm
He’s a bust because he pulled a hammy in camp. Lol. Write down these people’s screen names so we a get a good laugh later on.
August 18th, 2025 at 12:25 pm
So far as a pro I’ve seen nothing. Doesn’t matter what he did at ND anyway, their schedule is a joke. He wasn’t going up against SEC talent let alone NFL talent week in, and out. I predicted he’d beat out Dean, if he had a good camp, and preseason. That hasn’t happened. Until he gets on the field, and produces, he’s done nothing. Hope that changes, but I’m very concerned, even if Bowles isn’t. Practice matters, availability matters. Dude has to prove the Bucs didn’t make a mistake taking a player with an injury history in the second round. Can’t do that from the training room.
August 18th, 2025 at 1:42 pm
I am with you Hodad about college really does not matter. I am a pro football fan, don’t care if you were a Tim Teboe in college.
Just disappointed in people who make up stuff without fact checking it though.
So many internet trolls that start a narrative on a player like Morrison with false statements.
Have an opinion — fine. Making up stuff — not fine.
August 18th, 2025 at 2:22 pm
I’ll put it this way. I think he’s got all the talent in the world. I’m hoping he can take the field soon, and stay on it. My facts might not be solid, but his college career was cut short do to a hip injury. That’s a fact. So far his pro career has consisted of OTAs, and a week of camp without pads. I’m concerned even if you and Bowles aren’t. I’ll leave it at that.
August 18th, 2025 at 4:27 pm
They won’t rush him back. They need him ready for when Dean gets hurt.
August 18th, 2025 at 5:19 pm
Good news, need as many people healthy as possible.
August 18th, 2025 at 7:26 pm
@Buc4ever
Yep exactly. I would’ve passed on him from the beginning because of everything that’s been going on with him with all of his injuries & they had so many other CBs & safeties to choose from, too! For some reason they always seem like they like drafting the injured players alot of the time. Hopefully he works out for them because he hasn’t even been able to get on the field at all yet even in the preseason.
August 18th, 2025 at 9:03 pm
I’m starting to believe this was a bad pick why would you pick a guy who was hurt before the draft?
August 18th, 2025 at 11:40 pm
Who was the better cb on the board in the 2nd? Parish? Name the guy Tony. We will check the tape in a year or two and see if you were correct.
