Todd Bowles Didn’t Like How Practice Was Going
August 11th, 2025
Mid-practice scolding?
Roughly halfway through practice this morning, Joe thought the Bucs called the practice way early. All players, whether from the defensive sideline or the offense gathered behind the quarterback, came forward to the middle of the field.
Generally, that means practice is over. But it wasn’t. Players then gathered in a giant huddle and a coach (Joe couldn’t see who but guessed it was Bucs coach Todd Bowles) was doing the talking.
That’s never a good sign. Usually, the coach is doing some serious rear-end chewing.
When the huddle broke, players were very quiet. Bowles normally not just encourages players to be chatty on the field, he emphasizes it.
So when the players walked away quietly and lined up for the next play, quietly, Joe was convinced the entire team got reamed for something.
And that’s just what happened. After practice, Bowles softly said he had a talking to with his players. He made it sound like he was Ward Cleaver having a friendly chat with the Beaver at the dinner table.
The huddle was “just to emphasize the little things,” Bowles deadpanned. He noted how underwear football — there were no pads today — “[p]ractice is a little different than practicing in pads and we just have to understand that.”
Somehow, given how players were sullen after the huddle, Joe has a hunch Bowles wasn’t just kindly reminding them to be mindful of details, and instead he took a page from his old mentor Bill Parcells and blistered somebody.
He wasn’t remind guys to tie their shoes and break the huddle crisply.

Toes on the line!
Sounds like Bowles coaching is evolving. Hope it works.

Good. More.
While he’s at it, maybe give some specific attention to his pass rushers, and their pass rushing skills.

I’ll tell ya what, … looks like Todd Bowles might be goin’ from just a defensive wizard to a flat-out, certified head coach, man. I’
Ive always liked this guy — his defenses are like a freight train, they just get better and better as the season rolls on. But hey, this year? Let’s fire the cannons early, man. Let’s start fast.

Spam. Zero information provided. For all we know Bowles was reading them a poem he just wrote. IDK why this was even posted.

Good for Todd Bowles! Sounds like he isn’t wasting time and making sure the team isn’t either.

Power of Pewter. This is good stuff, what are you talking about? And Aqualung, you don’t get many softballs like this one lobbed your way. Pretty good response but I expected more. No mention of him yelling at anyone. Sounds like the team heard what he was saying though. Bowles is a very good leader.

I don’t have a problem with the post. Sounded like this was a rarity, and I’m assuming all of the information that was given to him from Bowles himself, was disclosed here. I guess, he could’ve asked a handful of the players afterwards, if he was allowed to do so, and they were made available. Just another little nugget from the ‘inside’ is all. No big deal that I can tell.

Ward, I think you were too hard on the Beaver last night…..

This post is great for everyone that has to say Bowles has no fire or passion. His players and the people around him say that all the time but this proves it. It also show’s that Bowles has total command of his team and that he’s looking at the details cause that’s where games are won and lost, being focused and he let his guys have it evidently for not being that, don’t know but when the coach calls everyone like that it is a group chewing out, maybe to assistants as well. Shula was known to do this too. TB is certainly stepping out of anyone else’s shadow to be his own man and the man in charge. I remember him saying that one has to coach from their own self awareness and not try to be what someone else wants them to be, evidently that was a dig at the Jets. That’s what they told Baker when he came on board, just be yourself. Good for Bowles

I like it. Fix the defense.

Underwear football is the time to get everything perfect. Bowles probably didn’t like the team’s focus.

Some of you really love to complain, don’t you?

i think he said if they don’t get their acts together, he’s personally gonna give a few of them wedgies in the locker room…
and hang their arses up on hooks near the media podium…
good to see coach taking charge 🙂

Well, at least it wasn’t a “players-only” meeting. Those meetings are akin to sanctioned mutiny. (Remember the players-only meeting a few years back? Hence, my sarcasm here).
Glad coach was being a leader.
Go Bucs ! ! !

Not sure what this does or does not prove but I Can tell you that Somethings have to change.
Maybe this is a sign that Bowles IS finally demanding Excellence!
As Always, we will see. Proves nothing at this point. Maybe he didn’t approve of their music selection of the day for all we know but I Will give him credit for taking charge and insisting on some type of change.
It doesn’t cost me anything to give him the benefit of the doubt so for today, in the “Gray Area”, I’m choosing to see it as a positive. Even though it’s not my job on the line… My Sundays are! So my sentiment is genuine in smoking “Hopeium” in leu of how I feel about past Bowles performances.
Why not. Good for you Todd. Keep your watchful eye All Over Them! And O btw, if you find that things aren’t shaking out as planned “because” you are “actually” in charge of the OFFENSE and the DEFENSE, of which Requires Your Full Attention, and it “PROVES” Difficult to get the Defensive guys to there Full Potential “AGAIN”…. , then HIRE A FULL TIME DEFENSIVE COACH PLEASE! And Finally Become the “ACTUAL Full Time Head Coach” that you and MOST want you to be….
