Baker Mayfield: Bucs Dictate With Bucky Irving On The Field

August 8th, 2025

So who is the sugar in the sweet tea that is the Bucs offense?

Everything changes when Mike Evans is on the field. No Evans? Defenses can exhale and can devote resources elsewhere.

Baker Mayfield has said everyone knows “the offense runs through Mike,” but it seems Mayfield may be changing his tune a little.

Yesterday on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Mayfield was asked what it means to have Bucky Irving on the field.

“The ability to do truly whatever we want on offense,” Mayfield replied.

“We can spread ’em out. We can do a lot of things, whether, you know, in the run game, scheme-wise; we can do it all. It gives us versatility without having to change personnel up that much. It’s a luxury to have.”

Amen to that.

Irving is an elite weapon. And when an offense has more than one with a strong QB and offensive line, it’s destined to be a top-tier unit.

Can’t wait for the season! Even looking forward to the preseason games.

I read that Bucky got flung down very hard yesterday and that led to one of the skirmishes. True Joe?

I still think we’re a better team with Bucky, Tucker, Richard

when they all get work, we’re a lot better team
Last season against Washington in the playoffs

Rachaad 1 carry, 2 targets, 3 kickoff returns
Tucker, 0 carries, 0 targets, never saw the field
And fans talking about how Washington controlled the clock

We had an opportunity to control the clock
But their game plan were a lot better than ours
What’s the purpose of having 3 good RBs
If you’re only going tuse one of them???

That’s why we lost against Washington

    “””Rachaad”””

    BEAUTIFUL!!! Go Bucs…

Love hearing that Bucky can receive going on deep routes….wow….defend against that!!!

    Game Day 2morro!!!!

  8. Obvious Says:

I think he can hit 2k yards from scrimmage this year and double digit tds.

  9. Hodad Says:

Four receiver set with Bucky the lone back in motion, who you going to cover? Evans, Egbuka, Godwin, J Mac, Bucky, no team has enough good corners, and safties to keep up with that. Then when they’re all spead out, hand the ball off to Bucky. All four receivers can block too, it’s going to be fun to watch. Let’s not forget we don’t lose much with White, and Tucker. Add Tez in the mix, look out!

what an absolute gem of pick by Licht! I remember so many “experts” on various sites/channels thought Ray Davis should have been the pick for Tampa… man oh man, if this team stays healthy…. OH BOY!

  11. Aqualung Says:

Love how he’s being used in the deep passing game.

Have not been this excited for a season in a long time. Even Brady‘s first year, it was the first year and they had no training camp so I did not expect a Super Bowl that year. I thought it might come in near two.
This team though, has a ton of potential. I honestly think it all depends on a four man consistent pass rush.

  13. Dano507 Says:

No doubt it’s Bucky. It’s a pick your poison offense. Hopefully the defense improves, that’s the key.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Yea – I think that the longer passes completed to Bucky we keep hearing about this year are going to surprise some teams early in the season.

If Irving truly has mastered tracking the ball downfield and making the tough catches as well as it sounds like – look the fluck out opposing defenses is all I can say…..

    Beat Atlanta!

Never been this interested in pre-season games before! Let’s get this party started 🤘🏼

  17. GoneGator Says:

Bucs offense should be “dictating” regardless of whether Bucky is in the game or not.

The number of idiots still talking about no-vision basic north-south runner Tucker like he’s anything more than a 3rd or 4th string runningback is insane. Just very very low football IQ individuals, have no idea what they’re watching.

  19. LakelandBuc Says:

But Tucker can still have a role
We know he’s not a featured back.
He’s good for 5-6 carries a game, a few targets
But to leave him out completely, is insane

  20. Kenton Smith Says:

LakelandBuc, Rod Munch is a good fan but he’s a horrible grader of talent. Tucker is a natural runner with great vision, explosiveness, and speed. Dude is a 1000 yard rusher waiting to happen. May not be here but he’s got a couple of studs in front of him. Because of that he may not get to show his talent but he darn sure has talent. In Spades.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

LakelandBuc – If that’s what you’re saying, I’m fine with that. But people talking about replacing White, what a joke. Not only is White a dramatically better receiver, and a better runner, he’s by far the best blocking RB on the roster, and it’s not even close. White isn’t going anywhere this year. Next year, with no contract, he might leave – but it also wouldn’t shock me if he sticks around as a 3rd down specialist. I’m telling you last year, watch that Broncos game, White is the only reason Baker wasn’t on IR, he was flat out holding up DE’s in the pass block game after they’d blow past Sucke. It’s an extremely underrated part of his game.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Kenton Smith – Tucker is none of those things, he’s a super basic north south runner with zero vision. Yes, we all know you say the Saints game where their defense quit in the 2nd quarter, and he got a bunch of yards running forward through big holes. That’s what a basic back is good at. Meanwhile the next game vs the Ravens, when the Bucs are down huge and the Ravens are playing soft in pass defense, he gets basically garbage time stats. Then after that, did he even do anything other than fumble the rest of the year? I forgot about it if he did. There’s a reason he was riding the bench and couldn’t build on his momentum, that’s because he’s not a good RB – at least not a top 2 RB on the team. As a 3rd or 4th stringer, he’s fine, and could probably be OK spot starting – just like Keyshawn Vaughn was fine in that role.
