Bucs Did Not Work Out Teddy Bridgewater

August 5th, 2025

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht was very upbeat talking about pending new Bucs quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

But Licht did have a very short answer when Joe asked if the Bucs have worked out Bridgewater this year.

They have not.

Bridgewater’s signing is pending a physical, but it sure seems like a done deal, given how Licht had a rare training camp news conference adn he and Bowles spoke openly about Bridgewater. The 32-year-old veteran was last with the Lions before retiring last year and coaching high school football.

Licht noted how Bridgewater was the quarterback the Bucs would have signed if Tom Brady wasn’t available in 2020.

Joe will issue another big “thank you” to the football gods.

Assuming this is not some act of desperation, why?

  2. Bill Kilmer Says:

Good Deal in my opinion!. He has a ton of experience and believe he should be a quality back up . for what it is worth I always liked him.

  3. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

The way I see, it’s investing in an emergency arm and a fresh set of eyes that’s been involved with the teaching aspect of the game. Bringing in Bridgewater, is like Thad Lewis suiting up and being a sideline asset.

I’m not a Floridian, but how far is the HS Teddy coached at from the Tampa area? Same county? or Different? Minutes or hours away?

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

Should have told Baker he was there to compete for the starting job. Really put a chip on his shoulder.

  5. infomeplease Says:

He’s a solid backup! He can fill in 3 or 4 games and be respectable doing so. Doesn’t make many bad decisions. Doesn’t throw deep either.

  6. Kenton Smith Says:

Believe this. Baker thinks Bazelak is competing for his starting job. He’s gonna have to be hurting real bad to leave the field. He knows what getting Wally Pipp’d means and he doesn’t want any part of it!

  7. ModHairKen Says:

He throws the ball like a shot putter and has a blown knee. What are they doing?

  8. SlyPirate Says:

I heard he’s a great locker room guy. He passes Licht’s character test.

My only issue is the Bucs lack playoff experience in the QB room. Unfortunately this TB doesn’t provide any.

    WBL

Teddy coached at his HS down in MIA….4hrs away

    GO BUCS!!!!

  10. 813bucboi Says:

Pratt and Bazelak have 0 experience….to a certain degree, you can say the same about trask….

not a smart move to go into the season with a talented roster and high expectations while only having 1 QB with meaningful experience…

    Baker is the starter
    Trask is the backup
    Teddy 3rd string QB

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

    So Pratt is a wash?

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Teddy coached at his HS down in MIA….4hrs away”

So a quick flight on the private jet, unless Teddy B drives like Ricky Bobby

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

After watching Trask for a few days, Jason Licht ran to the phone.
Bridgewater will probably be the backup by opening day.
If he bounces back- Michael Pratt is a good prospect.

Kyle Trask seems like a good teammate.
But he was a wasted pick. His noodle arm would be an embarrassing ent if he ever played
