Time For A Fight?
August 1st, 2025
Lack of training camp fights.
Joe thought about this yesterday and was not the lone reporter at Bucs training camp to think it.
Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was asked about fights. There hasn’t been one yet in Bucs camp.
This part of training camp is no man’s land: a week into camp and a week away from the first worthless preseason game.
Right now is the point when one literally does not know what day it is. Joe was shocked yesterday Bucs training camp had been open for eight days — it felt like three weeks.
The camp schedule turns into a giant fog at this point. Players are tired of hitting the same dude play after play after play.
And so far — though Joe sort of expects it today or tomorrow — there have been no fights. Bucs coach Todd Bowles hopes that streak continues.
“I think you just jinxed it, personally,” Bowles said with a laugh when asked about a lack of fights. “They’re playing hard and they’re practicing hard. Knock on wood, I’ll buy you lunch if [no fights take place] through the end of camp and we can get out of it like that.
“I don’t want it to happen. I understand some of the things that go on out there. They’ve been doing a good job taking care of each other and just having honest competition.”
Usually, all it takes is for some camp meat to get frustrated because he’s getting worked over to lash out at a veteran. And then it’s on!
Joe thought that was going to happen last week. A camp meat offensive lineman Joe noticed (number not visible) was jawing at Vita Vea and Vea squared up and started marching toward the guy.
Smartly, camp meat offensive lineman retreated to the huddle. Vea would be the last guy Joe would screw with.
Sometimes, if a team is in the throes of training camp and they’re mentally fried and physically spent, and just having a lethargic practice, a good scrap is needed to get the juices flowing and to refocus.

Getting in a fight with Vita Vea is a good way to get your own juices flowing when he wrings you like a wash cloth.

Joe. How about we just let the pot come to a boil? You don’t need to stir it!

I think it was another Bucs reporter but word on the street is Sterling is Sheparding a fight or at least stirring the pot to anger some receivers

Remember that culture thing we’ve been hearing about? That’s why. Fighting in camp just shows the immaturity of some players and takes away from the time dedicated to getting better.
Wait til the joint practices, fight strangers and not your teammates.

If I feel the need to fight with someone, I think I would rather go after Tez than VV

_________
Classic mistake.
The smaller guys can be very dangerous.
Mass guarantees nothing in a real fight.

We have a good mix of young players, and vets. The vets go out of their way to help the young players, I don’t think that’s the case with most teams. It’s respect. When you have a rookie like Egbuka going against a vet like Winfield even if he thinks Winfield popped him a little to hard, he’s not coming off the deck swinging. Let’s see what happens when we have a joint practice. I think you’ll see the claws come out.

Baker hurt his hand at practice. Let’s hope it not serious.

Let’s see next week when we do the joint practices

Ah, yes, the good old days, like when Clint Longley sucker punched Roger Staubach. Instant career-ender. If you play as you practice, the Bucs would just be practicing how to get 15-yard penalties and disqualifications, something they’re already too good at.

Warren Brooks Lynch= exactly. practice your plays, you wanna fight, meet me after practice where no one can see it. That is the culture, kick the opponents butt not your teammates.

Think I saw the Falcon’s rookie Edge Pierce Jr started or at least was involved in TWO fights in the same practice the other day.
Seemed like “character” was the biggest knock on that dude pre-draft – so hopefully he continues to make bad decisions. The Falcons traded next years 1st round pick to trade up and get him…. so it would be awesome if Pierce Jr turned out to be a bust and even better if its a head problem… maybe something similar to an Austin Sefarian-Jenkins situation…. that would be sweet…. lol

Vea is the guy you bring with you to the fight. Not the dude you fight. You Crazy?
Hell even if you, by some miracle, win you lose on that one dude! Off the team without even a bus ticket home me thinks. LOL
Go Bucs!
