Bucs To Break Out The White Throwbacks

July 15th, 2025

Home opener throwbacks.

The Bucs announced this morning another game when they will wear throwback unis.

And it’s kind of a lukewarm announcement. Joe is always up for the creamsicles (coming Dec. 11 against Atlanta), but that’s only half correct. When the Bucs host the Jets in the home opener in September, they will wear the old Steve Spurrier white unis with creamsicle numbers.

It’s not bad. Just not as cool as the creamsicles. This leaves Joe with a shrug of the shoulders.

You know what the greatest element of this announcement is? That no one with the Bucs is liquored up enough or that evil of a human being to even think of bringing back the Jameis Winston alarm clock unis.

Anyone who had a hand in concocting those heinous uniforms (Joe is looking right at you, Nike) ought to be thrown into the fires of hell for assaulting innocent Bucs and NFL fans with those eyerakes.

The original white Bucs uniform is OK. They ain’t the creamsicles. But they sure as hell aren’t the alarm clocks.

And for that, we can all be thankful.

They should at least wear the orange pants with them, but guess they’re looking more for the ‘all-white’ home advantage in the 120-degree on-field temperature in September. I still say at least wear the orange bottoms… I think it’d be a much nicer look and kinda pop!!!!

  2. Coconut Doughnut Says:

Finally a hint that Godwin will be back for week one. Tea leaves

They were going for the inaugural season, 1976 (You know, 50 seasons). Don’t think the Bucs wore the creamsicle pants back then.

  4. Stpetematt Says:

I loved the Pewter uniforms (the alternates?)…when are THEY coming back?

    LOL Don’t think that’s a hint at all. 🙂

  6. FilthyAnimal Says:

The orange numbers and lettering with red border was only around for ’76… so this might be the throwbackiest of all throwbacks they could wear.

  7. rriddler Says:

Makes sense. In September, wear white at home.

  8. Mike C Says:

The Alarm clock uni was horrible, I will say they looked better in person than on TV, that is not saying a whole lot though.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

I have an Evans jersey with the alarm clocks….I never wear it!

Loved seeing Richard Batman wood in the video. Joe I’ve noticed the last couple years bucs have had Batman in a few video do you think he’ll make the ring of honor at some point or should

  11. PewterStiffArm Says:

This combination didn’t last very long. It’s because it doesn’t make as much of an impact as the reverse combination of red numbers and orange outline. They bring back distinct memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Spurrier made these uniforms, good, bad or indifferent…. Kick a$$ and take some names.

Oh good. The winking pirate. Pfft.

  13. Aqualung Says:

    smdh

The Bucs won once in the gender-confused orange- the inaugural throwback game where Josh Failman debuted against the Packers and the Bucs shocked everyone and won. They’ve lost every cramsicle game since.

Perfect, let’s start a new losing tradition. The all white uniform horror show. It would be so Bucs to emulate the 1976 offense in those awful things. Although if the defense played like the ‘76 unit it would be an upgrade.

I can’t remember who said it but I loved it – please just let the Errol Flynn looking boob on the side of that helmet retire to Key West with his partner, never to be seen again. Please.

    TAKE MY MONEY

  15. BuccaDAWG Says:

Buccs RULE, I notice that the ole orange unis don’t look anywhere near as bad on a winning TEAM wearing them GO BUCS!!

Great video! Loving it all. Go Bucs!

  17. Steven #55 Says:

I have an Alarm Clock Lavonte jersey – got it in the Bucs Store at the Ray Jay when I visited. It’s a shame its horrible so I never wear it. I do like these white throw backs though. Want a pewter game this year!

  18. BuccaDAWG Says:

The. Richard “BATMAN” WOODS reference is great thanks

  19. PanhandleBuc Says:

THEY nailed it with this throwback!!! I just wish I picked the Jets game to watch live. The promo video is pretty cool too!

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

Dave Green and Danny Reese should be guesr of honor. (1st points and 1st touchdown)

  21. yucboy Says:

They should have worn it against the Seahawks, both teams 50th anniversary. They came in to the league together, would have been an awesome throwback uniform gsme

  22. Bee Says:

    These look sooooo good!

  23. miken Says:

@joe… Amen! Those alarm clock uniforms were the worst of all time and I hope people were fired over it.

  24. Aqualung Says:

The look of unsurpassed losing is sooooooo attractive. Most fans don’t enjoy chronic grotesque losing.

  25. Krewe Since Birth Says:

Steve Spurrier (a guy who’s spent 50 years distancing himself from the franchise) saying “we are all part of this Buccaneer legacy” is peak irony.

  26. ChiBuc Says:

    The original stormtrooper unis!

  27. Lt. Dan Says:

Very cool video! that brought back a lot of memories. I played a high school game in the Old Sombrero. King High School 1981 – 1982. I have a bunch of Bucs jersey’s. My favorite? Steve Spurrier creamsicle. It speaks to the very tough, very beginning of the franchise.

  28. BakerFan Says:

I personally like the White and Creamsicle jersey even better than the orange one. But who gives a flip, just win.

I don’t think this is fair at all. He wanted the Bucs coaching job a few times, but Culverhouse refused to hire him out of spite for coaching the USFL’s Tampa Bay Bandits. The one and only time the Bucs offered him the job was in 1996 after Jimmy Johnson turned them down to go to Miami. But the team was going through stadium funding tumult and couldn’t promise him they wouldn’t leave Florida. So he turned them down, which was good for the Gators as they won the Natty that year.

The third choice, Tony Dungy, was hired and the rest is history.

As someone who was a young kid in the early years of the franchise, I think the white throwbacks are great. For a kid who got teased for being a rabid Bucs fan through the first three seasons of the franchise, the 1979 season was a season long Super Bowl. I will never forget being at the Old Sombrero for the victory over the Rams to take the Bucs to 4-0. The crowd was as electric as I’ve ever experienced in my many Bucs games over the last 49 years. I do miss the Buccaneer Band. They should invite surviving members to a throwback game and give away John McKay bucket hats.

Ira, you need to do a story listing the Top Ten John McKay quotes and maybe solicit the best McKay-esque quotes from readers about yourself. Here’s my John McKay take on an early Bucs loss, “Not pretty. Just brutal. It was like watching Ira Kaufman at an all you can eat buffet. You can’t un-see it.”

  31. BucsFan81 Says:

Haha my wife was just asking me today about what Bucs Jerseys I had and she was like didn’t you sell one. I was like yea my Lavonte David jersey with the ugly alarm clock numbers. Everyone seemed to hate those jerseys.

  32. Pelsbuc61 Says:

As a Bucs lifer, the first win in franchise history was in those white unis. Props to putting Batman Wood in the video. Selmon will always be the greatest Buc ever.

  33. Usfbucs Says:

Loved that video and love the white uniforms

  34. Hodad Says:

Perfect game for these uni’s, which I love. It’s going to be white hot that game, and I see the Jets in their green wilting away. The Dec home game against Atlanta calls for red jerseys Joe. It’s the holiday season, and cool enough for red. We don’t want white for Dec.

  35. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Spurrier never remotely distanced himself from the Bucs. He used jokes about being QB on a winless team in speeches for years.

  36. unbelievable Says:

The alarm clocks will never be brought back.

They’re not even old enough to be considered “throw backs”.

Just a heinous design from an awful chapter in team history. Good riddance.

No, the first win came in the white jersey with red letters/orange border.

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

    GREAT Video!

Think I’m going to have to have one of these to add to the collection. Great nostalgia.

  39. Colonel Angus Says:

All whites are tight. Clean look.

  40. Ds Says:

Schedule Loss because of the jerseys lol

  41. FortMyersDave Says:

I am with Aqualung on the throwbacks. While the all white is better than the creamsicles IMHO, it still represents a time (with exception of 1979, 1981-82) when the franchise was an absolute laughingstock with major sports’ worst owner. I am all for Bucco Bruce to simply retire and enjoy some margaritas with his partner in Key West.

  42. FortMyersDave Says:

Filthy Animal: the Bucs wore white jerseys when they beat New Orleans in the Dome? Cool, to be honest the only thing I remember about that game is the score, 33-14, and that Hank Stram burned the game tape after the loss and was launched soon thereafter. The next week, the Bucs beat St Louis 17-7 for their first home win and that loss got Don Coryell fired by the Cards.

  43. Itzok Says:

There is nothing good with these uniforms, orange and red look horrible together, bucs should cremate the creamcicles while they are at it. They represent nothing but losing. Nothing good will ever come from wearing them.

The alarm clock uniforms are good minus the number fonts. The red was brighter and pewter more matte. I prefer the brighter red to the dark metallic red of our current uniforms.
