Jason Licht: Bucs May Have NFL’s Best Offensive Line
June 24th, 2025
“Jason loves us, Graham.”
Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht played in the trenches during his college days and has proven himself in the NFL as an offensive line whisperer.
Look at what Licht has built. The old man of the Bucs’ starting offensive line is Ben Bredeson, who turned 27 in February. It’s a young unit with beastly drafted tackles Luke Goedeke and Tristan Wirfs, the first man to ever be All-Pro at right and left tackle.
Graham Barton has a high ceiling as a 2024 first-round pick of a center, and Cody Mauch is a legit and durable talent at right guard.
Licht is living the dream — his dream, so he told Sports Day Tampa Bay.
Obviously not wanting to scream “cash money” and act like Anthony Edwards draining a big 3-pointer for the Timberwolves, Licht very gently hinted it’s just fine to say the Bucs are the best offensive line in the NFL.
“It was my dream to one day have five solid starters like we have right now that arguably could potentially be the top unit in the NFL. It’s not crazy to say. They’re right up there,” Licht said.
Licht went on to express his belief that the O-line is the most important unit on a team.
Joe reads this and thinks of how loaded the Bucs roster is — and how loaded the power brokers at One Buc Palace believe it is.
Very high bar for Todd Bowles.

And to think Bucs fans wanted to run Luke outta town forgetting that he was drafted to play RT and not fail out of position at LG.

People should go watch this. It’s really good and not too long. Rick had about 300 views 24 hours into posting. He’s one of the best Bucs beat writers and deserves better support.

The OL is the most important unit on the team. They’re what football is all about when you boil everything down, separate players moving on one accord to accomplish the same goal. Should be the smartest, toughest, and most cohesive position room in the building, and when they’re not you can tell on the field.

What do you mean by that’s a very high bar for Todd Bowles? This offensive line has played their whole career for Todd Bowles. Almost, anyway. Bowles gets credit for this offensive line as much as Licht does. Almost, anyway.

I can’t think of a better offensive line I would trade. This line is young and will be great for many years to come. I am hoping Licht makes Luke Goedeke a top priority signing at the end of the season.

Men and to think Bucky will grow and solidify his future pro bowl career with them.

A high bar for an underachiever.

I heard that White is leaner and faster! Is it possible to have 2 1000 yard backs?

Kenton it’s a high bar cause Joe wrote this,
how loaded the Bucs roster is — and how loaded the power brokers at One Buc Palace believe it is.
Imo the Eagles are the only comparable line in the league now that Lions have suffered couple tough losses. Bucs are a top 5 roster in the league. 11 wins should be the bar, better get there/over.

All this talk – hype – about the talented roster forgets we have no idea what the Defense-In-Rebuilding mode will look like. Offense is the Flash, but Defense wins championships. The talent on Offense is proven. The talent on Defense is all hype and speculation and will be until mid season.

Yup! Jason knows how 🙂

I’m not seeing the ‘all-in’ on Bredeson. (3 years, $22 million) Opeta seemed superior to him in camp, until the knee or whatever. Do they see a higher ceiling for Bredeson compared to where he is NOW?
June 25th, 2025 at 6:46 am
Beeej, Bredeson is a rock. Michigan pedigree. Dude is a football player. Starting NFL center with the Giants. Great leadership qualities. Helping Barton learn how to be a pro. Team first guy. I don’t care what anyone says Ben Bredeson is just the kind of player that you want and need on your OLine. Tough, smart, and competitive player who loves the game. He fits our excellent OLine like a glove. And he’s the old man (27) on our line. We’re gonna be good. And we’re gonna be good for a long time. Because of guys like Ben Bredeson.

Let’s not get carried away with the “best” offensive line stuff. Gave up 40 sacks last year, is that right Jose? Need to be better there. Clearly C and RG are still works in progress but we should be pretty darn good. I would have to rate the SB teams OL better until these guys win it all.

No excuses unless Baker gets injured. This team is as talented as any other in the NFL.

“Let’s not get carried away with the “best” offensive line stuff. Gave up 40 sacks last year, is that right Jose?”
Partly comes with the territory of who we have at QB, that’s why minimizing holding the ball too long is a focal point this offseason(again). 4th most sacked QB since entering the league behind Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, & Matt Stafford.
Mayfield was sacked 40 times in 2023 as well and before last season it happened 2 other times in his run with the Browns. Mind you, we had the lowest pressure rating in all the NFL whether facing the blitz or not last season.
88.8 rush yard per game avg in 2023
149.2 rush yards per game avg in 2024
We’ve got one of the better OLs in the league

Summertime is Hype time lets sell some tickets!!!!

Baker Mayfield avoided 28 sacks!
28!
He was dodging guys left and right all season.
Tom would just release it in 1.2 seconds.
Baker will brave the storm and hang in there.
But don’t get it twisted.
Bucky broke a ton of tackles in the backfield.
And Baker avoided 28 sacks!
I’m not as happy with our O-line as some of you.
