Anthony Nelson Says Haason Reddick Already Making An Impact

June 16th, 2025

Impressed with new teammate.

So last week Bucs outside linebacker Haason Reddick put on a helluva performance for the local pen and mic club at minicamp.

Among the many things Reddick said, he vowed he wants to be the best Bucs teammate. He wants to help teammates play better because he knows it takes production from everyone, not just him.

Reddick’s session with the fourth estate was so good, “this Joe” got a whiff of a hard sell. Too hard.

One thing Reddick mentioned is how he likes to take younger outside linebackers under his wing and help them develop. So the next day, Joe spoke with Anthony Nelson about Reddick.

And it’s true, Nelson said. Reddick is already helping the OLB room with tips and techniques to improve a woeful edge rush.

“‘Son has been great ever since he has first come in, especially in communication with what [moves] works for him,” Nelson said. “He’s trying to pick up stuff that we’re doing. He’s a guy that is always learning.

“He’s a student of the game. He loves it. You can tell.”

How much is Reddick helping? To hear Nelson, Reddick had video cut-ups of edge rushers and their moves, including his own.

Nelson said Reddick would explain the moves and add something like a specific move may or may not work for him but it doesn’t mean they can’t work for others. He encouraged his Bucs teammates to try them.

“We watched film from around the league,” Nelson said. “He’s pointing out things he likes. And things he does that works for him. Things that he knows has worked for other guys.

“He’s had a lot of nuggets he’s already dropped on us. So I’m excited for camp to get some more from him and see him in action.”

When Joe relayed to Nelson some of what Reddick said about wanting to be a first-class teammate and a sounding board for getting after the quarterback, Nelson told Joe that Reddick has been a model leader.

“That’s pretty accurate,” Nelson told Joe. “That is exactly what he has shown.

“He is trying to do anything he can to make us better pass rushers.”

And heaven knows the Bucs need all the help they can get attacking quarterbacks from the edge.

Seems to be the anti- swaggy.

Florida palm trees are all marked as safe.

Hope he works out. I guess they’re not bringing Shaq back. I thought they’d bring him back for maybe another year.

Randy Gregory vibes fading… It’s a Beautiful Thing, especially on a Monday!

This sounds like a pretty solid confirmation of what Hassan told the media last week.

Nelly doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who would blow smoke at the media.

He’s been a solid rotational/back-up for us for what? Six, seven years now?

I don’t watch all of the Bucs players’ press conferences, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do one. He doesn’t appear to be someone looking to be in the spotlight.

I’d say Hassan is doing exactly what he said he was doing when he talked to the press last week.

That’s going to benefit the overall performance of our defense this year, and if Hassan has the kind of season he had when he was with Philly, we’ll be a real force to be reckoned with.

I hope these guys go the Von Miller’s pass rush summit next month.

    Each one, teach one.

Reddick and these 2 rookie CBs are going to make this Defense like a well oiled machine. Cannot wait for this season. Going to be exciting

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Great news to hear here Joe. Just give us anything that looks like a pass rush. I’m sick of opposing QB’s look like they are preparing sandwichees back there in the pocket against us. I am hopeful that is about to change.

Glad to have the rookie cornerbacks. Not expecting them to be top producers, just reasonable contributors. Parrish has an open lane to nickelback. Morrison has to square off against a Super Bowl winning db. Both rooks will get chances to sub in but there aren’t — or shouldn’t be — many free spots on an NFL playoff caliber team.

This is great news about Reddick. Of course, it makes you wonder, what the hell have the coaches (not) been doing, if this is a new behavior? Trying to get pass rushers better at rushing the passer? Radical idea.

I say wait until they perfect their 25 step zone drops before complicating their lives with rushing the QB assignments.

  11. GoneGator Says:

So because Reddick is sharing his experience and tips for his comrades that means the coaches haven’t been doing their job?

At least we seem to be down to 1 full time troll lately..

First, I really like Nelson. He doesn’t have superstar flash. But, he is one of those Ghoulston Guys whose play builds the solid framework that the superstars takeoff from.

Reddick seems to be wise enough to recognize that the best way to increase his own sack numbers and his chance of a bigger pay day is for the Bucs to have pressure coming from all points so that the opponents can’t just run the play away from Reddick or send all of the help his way.

Only time will tell. But, Reddick may have his moment with the Bucs and join the Bucs’ elite group of free agent signings like TB, SB, RJ, LF, etc.

Hopefully they all help each other get better and the synergy takes the edge rushers to the next level.

LFG!!! Love to hear this. I think the biggest beneficiary is going to be Yaya. The guy was top 10 in everything to do with edge rushers except sacks. I seriously think he explodes this year with 10+. I’m leaning towards 12.
Of course CK in the middle is going to benefit from those two on the edge as well.

From not having a front 4 pass, rush to potentially having Reddick, Yaya, CK all with double digits this year.

I know I’m biased and very optimistic right now, but they have a chance to be very special. Especially because this offense might be the top scoring offense in the league and teams will be playing from behind. Helps the pass rush.
The other thing helping them is all the bodies added to the secondary, Smith at safety, SirV with his speed covering the center… QBs should not be able to get rid of the ball so fast this year.
All these factors add up to a dangerous D! Definitely top 10 defense this year

  15. Half_Sac Says:

The dude wanting them to bring back Shaq in the comments 🤣

  16. Bucswin Says:

“Too hard.”? That’s what she said. Go Bowles!

  17. Tony Says:

    @Half_Sac

I was just saying. You can laugh if you want but it just seemed kind of odd to come out of retirement for a couple of games just for them not to resign him. He pretty much said he only wanted to play with the Bucs now so I guess he’d just end up retiring again.

  18. Aqualung Says:

It takes a special kind of special for someone to not recognize the poor coaching of the OLBs. Hence, Edwards has been replaced by Larry Foote.

Now what’s hilarious is Edwards has been made “pass game coordinator” (on defense). Truly can’t make it up.
