“Sour” Bucs Is An Early Positive

June 14th, 2025

“Sour” vibes are good for the Tampa Bay roster, says one Buccaneers starter.

Yes, the Bucs are entering this season as “sour” campers, per Zyon McCollum. And hat gnawing feeling after losing a close game to the Lions in the 2023 playoffs helped spark the team at the start of last season, McColloum told WDAE radio this week.

He says the Bucs are in the same pirate ship now.

“We had that sour taste in our mouth from that playoff loss and to go out there and do what we did early in the [2024] season, with the injuries, I mean it was incredible and it boosted us,” McCollum said. “And that’s kind of the feel we have going into this season coming off that tough loss to the Commanders. We have that sour taste in our mouth.”

The sour is a little more tart after dropping two games to the Falcons last season.

“For them to get two on us, I mean, honestly, it just pisses me off a little bit,” McCollum added. “And so that’s the attitude that we take in to every single day. I know we got Atlanta [in] Game 1, I’m already watching film [of] them.”

Joe hopes the Bucs craft ways to be extra sour about their abysmal record in night games under Todd Bowles and their penchant for midseason losing. If they can stop those annual doldrums, a dominant season lies ahead.

    Nothing surprising about that sourness.

Bowles supporters love to rationalize on his behalf. That’s part of being a fan, I suppose. Emotions can make people do and say very odd things. But there’s no getting around what Joe has written above. That is the measuring stick. Night game fails and mid season losing streaks. And if Bowles fails again to clear those hurdles. His time as HC of this team needs to end. He has enough bites of the apple.

I hope Zyon is watching film of Kirk’s Cousin throwing for a third of his 2024 passing yards and the majority of his TDs in 2 games versus the Swiss cheese, especially the game 1 gagathon. Some brilliant off coverage in those two.

I’ve rewatched every game from last year at least 3 times… Except for the Atlanta games .

    I just can’t watch those…. Too depressing 😔.

🤞🏼 that our new additions will help level up the D. We need these guys, at least most of them, to hit the ground running BUT I think we nailed the draft with potential (immediate) impact players and I like our free agent additions. We are getting closer….stocking up on playmakers instead of placeholders @ key positions.

    Go Bucs 💪🏼

Here is a way for the Bucs to craft to inspire the proper level of sour: Grizzard installs the 3rd and short package in camp and excitedly draws up a jet sweep on the chalkboard…

    Aqualung…
In the secondary and ILB rooms… watch and rewatch both Falcons games often.

Maybe even the beat downs from the Ravens & Broncos.
Just for a little extra motivation… Chiefs and 9ers.
    😖

    Great photo!

  9. Teacherman Says:

No KJ Britt in the center with his 4.7 speed.

No Jordan “pretty boy” Whitehead doing nothing.

And we now have the greatest depth at CB in Bucs franchise history.

As I suggested, to draft 2-3 corners.

    Zion
    Dean
    Morrison
    Parrish
    Bryce Hall
    Josh Hayes
    Funkmaster or a new guy

    7!

    Gotta love it!!!!

    KABucs – !!!!!!!!!!

I am now muttering to myself. Grumbling. Repeating “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

To make matters worst – the bourbon is gone.

Thanks for reminding me of the other nightmares. Kind of!
