Todd Bowles Explains Game Demeanor, Personal Workout
May 24th, 2025There are reasons why Todd Bowles is a stoic sideline figure. It’s not just how he is.
Bowles was a guest on Rooted In Progress, a WFLA-TV production, and explained that he’d like fans to know he is much more vocal than it looks during games.
Staying extra cool, per Bowles, is good for his team.
“On the field for me, it takes me a lot to get pissed off, but once I get there, there’s no coming back,” Bowles said.
“There’s going to be a blowup and there’s going to be a volcano and there are going to be casualties that are in my way; that’s going to be casualties for everything. And I think better when I’m calmer and I can stay three or four steps ahead, and the guys are calmer because we’re very young on the sidelines. So it’s important for me to be calm. Now I’ll talk during the week in practice; you know, the gloves are off. Everything is everything. In games, you’ve got to almost make adjustments almost every play, so you gotta have your wits about you and I understand that about me.
“Early in my career, I blew my top and I messed up the play after that. And I will never forget that. So that was a lesson for me in my younger coaching days, so it’s kind of how I kind of adapted it right now.”
Yeah, fans like watching the in-your-face sideline coaches, but that’s not key to championship.
Perhaps Bowles gets his sideline angst out on Monday mornings. The head coach explained you can find him in the gym.
“I work out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:30 a.m.,” Bowles said. “I do a cardio circuit weight-wise, and Tuesday and Thursday are big stretch days for me. And our strength coach has a program, but I’m in the weight room Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 3:30.”
Bowles may be a lot of things, but undisciplined is not one of them.

Hmmmmm. He is learning, getting better, adapting. Evolving… Is he perfect? Nope, nobody is! Will he be perfect for this team special this year? Possibly! Go Bowles!

People give Todd Bowles flack but he does more with less than most teams. Look how the defense cooked the Bengals last year.

I don’t care about his physical traits. It is his mental work that I am interested in. People on this platform blame baker on the playoff fumble. Well, I blame Bowels for his extensive use of JTS when even a dope like me sees JTS was worse than nothing. Our 4xx pound UDFA could have stood still over the middle and cause more damage than JTS. Yet, game after game out he trotted.

Great workout, now do push-aways, that’s push away from the plate…

Swiss cheese blah blah blah….
Give Todd a fairly healthy defense with actual NFL caliber players and we’ll see what’s what.
Nobody really knows what will happen next season but most fans still have Todd’s back and believe he’ll field a much better D this year. Hell, some of us actually believe he did a good job last season considering the circumstances.
Let’s go Todd 😎👍🏼

If the offense scores 34ppg the Bucs should be able to achieve 10 wins.

“Everything is everything.” Profound?
Not a Todd Bowles troll. In fact, I like his demeanor and the way he treats his players as grown ups. If you are looking for a charismatic coach TB isn’t your man. Hoping that his defense performs better this year. All we need is average and things will work out fine. Don’t think Licht did enough to address the defense in the draft and free agency. Anthony Walker is going to be the best surprise of offseason defensive moves. He is a solid and smart player. Biggest disappointment will be Reddick.

All I know is if we come up with a pass defense this year we have a good chance of being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. There’s really not too many holes on this team. Except the pass defense. Go Bucs!

Swiss cheese is good on a sandwich.
For a pass defense, not so much.

I’ve been critical of Coach Bowles on this website. I’m not ashamed to admit that fact. I meant every word I posted and I don’t regret any of it.
But lately coach is, maybe evolving or growing or something. I’m not sure how to put it into words.
His comment about learning that offensive scores win games from a few weeks ago is huge in my mind!
Being calm and controlled in the heat of battle is good for the team in general, although, as a fan I dig the Gruden style outburts but as long as the Bucs win, I’m happy as a pea-lark

If Bowlesack can’t win with this team that Licht gave him, then he really needs to go. But I’m hopeful he’s the right man to lead this great group of players to the promised land.

Come to think of it, our two Superbowl coaches couldn’t control themselves on the sidelines. Bowles does own a ring from coaching our defense, When he had the players his defense dominated till the Rams game. Soooo, Go Bowles!!!

Just putting this out there, but if Todd screws up this year, I think Gruden is in the wings to take over. Todd can focus on his role as DC and Gruden is back again as HC……
i dont know….its just a lot of weird stuff going on it seems. And thats if Todd would be ok with that. If not, then who would be our DC if Todd left?

This was a great read about Todd’s inner values and how he holds back anger from everyone seeing what is really going on in his head during the game. He is right. Once a coach goes ballistic on the sideline, that is the story…, for days. Professionalism, one of the many traits I admire about Todd. We are lucky to have him. No drama and still with strong results.

Todd Bowles FACTS
He’s won the Division Title all three years he’s been HC.
He’s improved all three years! Win% .471 – .529 – .588
He’s only 1 for 4 in the playoffs, the next area he needs to improve.
AGAIN…people wish to smear him with his Jets record of .375. No context there!
Pete Carroll had an identical .375 record when he was with the Jets.
Bowles is the only NFL coach to post a winning record in the past 15 years for the Jets. The only one to win TEN games.
So perhaps context suggests that the Jets suck no matter who coaches and getting ten wins with them is amazing!
If Todd wins the Division AGAIN this season he’ll be back next year. If he’s one and done in the playoffs the “Dungy watch” begins. He might get run if he doesn’t do better in the playoffs the next season.
AGAIN context matters however. Injuries are a real thing.
Having said all of that I do think the pressure is on Todd this season to WIN!!

An honest question for our Bowles haters. If Baker goes down early and misses a majority of the season and Trask can’t move the team but the D improves and the Bucs are mediocre..is that Todd’s fault?
May 25th, 2025 at 2:17 pm
@stpetebucsfan
you already know – lol
May 25th, 2025 at 2:36 pm
stpetebucsfan – Well said comments about Todd!
May 25th, 2025 at 6:21 pm
Well, the answer Pete is unknown. Completely unknown. Did Bowles place Baker in an untenable situation? Was Bowles finally able to actually coach up the defense to the point that they can communicate between them?
Here’s another for you Pete. You keep insisting that Bowles worked some miracle out for the jets.. Ummm did he? Let’s look closer. I’m gonna keep it Cut and Dry Simple
Bowles took over another coaches team that, That coach worked to get in shape to have a winning season. Bowles DID NOT build that team…. He then had 10 wins in the FIRST year as their head coach and then proceeded to drive the team into the ground until he was fired….. AND THAT’S THE FACTS JACK!
Bowles Bowles Bowles is Not a talented Head Coach. His defense is now ranked in the Very Bottom in All the NFL for consecutive years now BECAUSE he CAN NOT perform well in his current position. He’s proved it twice. You guys KNOW we’ve either had Pure Dumb Luck TWICE, and by the ACTUAL Skin of his teeth last year… But his “Luck” has Started to Fade! If it weren’t for the falcons losing then We Were TOAST!
They OWNED US TWICE last year Without Problem! The FALCONS WON THE DIVISION AS FAR AS WHO “CONVINCINGLY” WHIPPED WHO FOR THE TITLE OF KING OF THE DIVISION IN MANY EYES!
We were on our KNEES in EMBARRASSING FASHION in our last divisional game against the LOWLY saints and BARELY SCRAPPED BY THERE!!!
We (ONCE AGAIN) CRAWL across the season finish line LOOKING WEAK! We go to war with a rookie QB (WASHINGTON) AND OUR DEFENSE COULDN’T EVEN FORCE “ONE SINGLE LITTLE PUNT” and we were LAID TO WASTE with a whimper in the end AGAIN!
BOOOO! BOOO! Seems it time FOR A CHANGE!
May 25th, 2025 at 6:33 pm
And Max is right in that as unlikely as it seems…. Maybe they are reconsidering Gruden. Like some of us have noticed and the Joe’s said plainly, the Org. Is promoting him quite a lot all the sudden???…
I think it’s (VERY) possible that we’re going to have a new coach next year. I’ll say it now, I’m willing to bet on it! This has been the formula to 2 Super Bowl Wins and it SURE LOOKS THE PART!
If Bowles finally figures it out this year then that’ll change. But let me just say….
ZEBRAS DON’T CHANGE THEIR STRIPS! Bowles more than likely will be the same man as he’s been all his life and the Glazers are the same family that have won Bowls by bringing in a Offensive coach to Win Super Bowls. They ate about to do it again because Bowles ISN’T going to change a thing…
May 25th, 2025 at 6:45 pm
Obvious
Gruden’s Bucs record is WORSE than Todd! Gruden also won his SB with a team built before he arrived.
GM’s build the team, coaches uh…COACH IT. iF the Jets were already built why did they suck before Todd arrived…as in FACTUALLY POSTING LOSING RECORDS before and after Todd. Why did Pete Carroll have exactly the same win % with the Jets as Bowles? Does that mean Carroll also sucks as an HC?
Todd has won a SB as a Player and as a DC! Let me guess you going to give all the credit for the Bucs last SB win to Brady/BA anybody but the defensive coordinator. You also must OBVIOUSLY believe that the talent on the team the last two years on defense was the same as the SB team.
You have ZERO facts Obvious, only your blind hatred for Bowles which results in many fact free posts that are largely detached from reality, lacking totally in context.
You obviously haven’t heart the old cliche. When you’re in a hole stop digging!
May 25th, 2025 at 6:54 pm
Max
Respectfully…why would anybody want Gruden back as HC.
After the SB he went 7-9 , 5-11 , 11-5, 4-12!!! 3 out of 4 LOSING seasons!
A 27-37 record over that 4 years span…a win% of .421 over a significant stretch.
Remove that 11-5 season as Obvious would do if it was Todd and 3 of those 4 years Gruden was 16- 32!!! A win % of .333 as in LOSING 2 out of every 3 games. But hey Obvious signed off so perhaps Chucky is a consideration.
LMAO!!!

Todd you have been a solid coach man.
Go get the trophy.
We are behind you.
