“You Could See The Hunger In Guys”

May 20th, 2025

Spring practice is underway at One Buc Palace.

The Bucs offensive players training now at One Buc Palace aren’t quite a pack of wild dogs, but they’ve got plenty of bark and bite for mid-May.

That was the message today from rookie Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.

“Grizz” said he’s talked to his unit about the groin-kick playoff loss at the Commanders in Tampa four months ago.

Grizzard said he making the point that losing a home playoff game is unacceptable “and how that’s not why we do what we’re doing right now.”

The response is what Grizz wanted.

“So, you can see the hunger in guys to be able to push on in the playoffs and make a run,” he said. “And you can tell through meeting rooms, the questions they’re asking, the stuff we’re getting done on the field … you feel like you’re even a step further [than last season] because we didn’t change a lot in the system. And now we can get into the nuances of route running and how we hit the blocks and get into the shape we get into.

“They’ve been hungry. Nobody’s resting on any of the statistical success we had last year because ultimately, team-wise and in the playoffs was far from what we’re trying to do.”

Joe loves hearing about a seamless transition with the offense to the point, per Grizzard, it feels like the Bucs already have taken a step toward something better.

“The turnovers need to go down from what it was last year”- Grizzard

I love how the national media dogs this team. As long as they aren’t offering up plates heaped with treacle, that team hunger will stay fresh. Yes, give them a reason to carry that chip on their shoulder!

Bucs are gonna Buc! Very excited to see the team elevate their game this upcoming season and have full faith and confidence they can do it!

    Bucs tech note…
Would be nice if they would get a microphone to the questioners so we wouldn’t have to guess the questions when watching press conferences or wait for CC.

  5. Bucs And Them Says:

This is going to be a fun season. The defense is going to be noticeably better this year by virtue of players being injured last season, being at full strength this year. Combined with the additions in the draft & free agency. The offense should hit the ground running and Egbuka will prove more than worthy of the first round selection. If the team can avoid the devastating amount of injuries like we suffered last year, we’re going to be a tough team to beat. LFG!!!!!!!

  6. Obvious Says:

Obviously it was very disappointing to see Cohen leave but I was over the moon when they announced an in house hire. You should clearly pick the best person you can for the job but if that person happens to already be here it helps minimize any learning curves.

Keeping the same playbook, terminology and overall approach allows the group to continue to improve and build rather than starting over again.

One thing that excites me in all of this talk. The Bucs are now like the Lightning.

Regular season is only the step you need to take to get to the REAL games.

They’re thinking playoffs or bust and what really counts are playoff wins! That shows how far the franchise has come since the SB cap mortgage came due.

  8. Jayson Lite Says:

Somehow, “hunger” and “turnovers” go together. But let’s hope the turnovers are not being baked by Baker & Company, but are instead coming from the defense.

“We didn’t change a lot in the system” That’s not what I wanted to hear. Teams have 17 games of tape on the Bucs offense. I hope this not a similar situation to the Byron Leftwich debacle.

    @stpetebucsfan
    Exactly.
Nobody cares what your regular season record looks like…. That’s all just a warmup for the dance. Baker knows this, Todd knows this, Grizz knows this.

While I’d love to see us trounce everybody during the regular season, whats really important is that we’re playing consistent, disciplined football and peaking at the right time.

We didn’t change a lot in the system

We just need Grizz to watch the first SB video or talk to Gruden about the Raiders offensive game plan back then and how our Defense responded.

I agree with what most of yall are saying about this team being fun to watch this season. Also saw someone say we need to cut down on turnovers and I couldn’t agree more. Just based off our defense last year and yes I know we had a lot of injuries but with this defense you can’t turn the ball over with how bad we were. It’s like automatic points for the other team when that happens. I do believe tho this defense will be better just on the health fact alone then you add in a legit pass rusher that we all hope I know terrible word to use but we all hope he gets back to the pass rusher he used to be. Some depth and competition at corner should help and maybe smith going to saftey will make a difference.

Man if the offense improves this season, the rest of the NFC better look out!! I’m pretty sure the defense will improve ( that’s not saying much really) !
To me it looks like, with some favorable penalty calls and a lot of good fortune, this could be the season when the Buc’s become badasses again!!! It just fells like every thing is coming together the right way for success!! I know it’s way too early for these kind of predictions but….
