The Best Value

May 10th, 2025

Stud fell in lap?

So the PFF tribe is banging its drums, looking at the Bucs draft.

And today, maybe, Bucs coaches and front office personnel will get a second look at this guy and see if they got as much of a steal as the PFF tribe thinks.

That would be seventh-round draft pick Tez Johnson at rookie minicamp.

Per the tribe, the Bucs got the best value on Johnson. The Bucs, per Mason Cameron of the PFF tribe, only reached for one player: cornerback Jacob Parrish. Todd Bowles would wholeheartedly disagree.

The tribe believed Parrish was picked by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht 19 spots above where he should have been.

Elijah Roberts, the fifth-round pick defensive tackle, was significant value for the Bucs, per the Tribe. They had slotted him to go at No. 89. The Bucs got him with the 157th pick.

But the biggest prize, per the PFF tribe, is Johnson. The PFF tribe believed Johnson should have been drafted at No. 138 — before Roberts’ number was called by the Bucs at pick No. 138.

The Bucs got Johnson in Round 7 at No. 235.

With all the hype Johnson is getting, Joe just hopes the guy makes the team.

Licht has gotten better and better at drafting. Glad to see he let it fall how it did and didn’t give up any picks in the process.

    Title: ‘The Best Value’

Joe: ‘With all the hype Johnson is getting, Joe just hopes the guy makes the team.’

So to keep this straight Joe, the best value we got in this draft might or might not make the team in your estimation. Got it.

Hype in underwear football is meaningless. Johnson’s ‘spread’ might be the largest (where they thought he’d be drafted versus where he actually was drafted), but it’s hard to see a 7th Rounder as ‘the best value’. Project 4 years in the future (2nd contract?), and eithe 1 of the CBs or 1 of the Edge/DTs MIGHT turn out to be ‘the best value’. Punt returners typically have a very short career span from what I’ve seen.

And my world famous, state of the art, Wiz bang computational device says PFF is full of faulty data! So do my eyeballs!

    Go Bucs!

  4. White Tiger Says:

Determining “value”!- after a draft but before playing the NFL is just silly.

We think we got great value, but we won’t know until they do something during an NFL season. Promise is there, NFL level production, is not.

  5. ToddBowles#1 Says:

Licht is a charlatan just like Belichick. Only wins with Brady.

At least he was smart enough to bring in Brady and get the second title.

But look what he’s done before and after. Nothing. One playoff win.

Same goes the the “HC’ Bowles. All he does is lose.

Bowles was the cause of the loss to the Rams. Putrid pass defense.

He served up Brady’s only losing season in the NFL.

These two were meant for each other. Cut from the same losing cloth.

TB1 is a hilarious little guy

  7. MadMax Says:

Didnt he have the most YAC of all wr’s last year? Seems like I read that somewhere. The guy has moxy and heart, just like Baker and Bucky….everyone gonna see soon, its all good lol, i cant wait!

  8. MadMax Says:

Man i just read his background, talk about fighting through some stuff…kind of reminds me of what i went through as a baby losing parents and crap….this kid is gonna make it, just watch! A def steal for a 7th. And like Jason said, we didnt have a 6th or he wouldve been drafted then…..

  9. Swissbuc Says:

We should of drafted Shedeur in the 4th round that would have been amazing value plus I’m not sold on Baker Mayfield he holds the ball to long and throws to many interceptions. This is just my opinion after watching film.

You may need to look up the definition of charlatan… tard.

  11. Usfbucs Says:

Baker Mayfield average time to throw = 2.44 secs
NFL average time to throw = 2.69 secs

Baker Mayfield average int per game 2.7
NFL average int per game 2.6

  12. Usfbucs Says:

Now when you look at BM stats since joining the Bucs they are significantly better when it comes to INTs and a mixed bag when it comes to time to release.
Average int per game since joining Bucs is 0.76.
Time to release in 2023 was 2.44 and was the second fastest in the NFL. In 2024 his time to release was 2.77 and ranked him 33rd.

Assuming “int” is short for interceptions, this stat is clearly not even close.

Is there a point you’re trying to make?

This thread was about the Bucs draft values.

  16. Bojim Says:

Swissbuc. Still not sold on Mayfield after two career seasons. How many does it take? I think you know that there are more than a few teams that would love to have him. Sanders over Mayfield? Sure. We get it, you don’t like Mayfield.

    No… and it’s “should have”.

Thanks to DR for making the point of the day.

Otherwise, Maroons are out in force on this fine Saturday.

Licht is one of the league’s best GMs and Baker one of the league’s best QBs.

And coach says he’s fixing his horrific defense. All is well.

ToddBowles#1, you’re the real loser, buddy.

    That is all. Good day

  21. Fred McNeil Says:

As far as a returner goes we had one guy who was only 5’9″ but he was 170 who was pretty good till a Panther player deliberately beheaded him on a punt and knocked him pot cold. We called him Peanut. I think his name was Clifton Smith.
