“Classic Todd Bowles Cornerback”
May 8th, 2025
Tackling.
So in the wake of the draft as we meander to this weekend’s rookie minicamp and begin shifting focus to the meat of underwear football season, the four-letter gathered together all its NFL talking heads to opine on all sorts of draft angles.
One question the gaggle had to answer individually was to choose their favorite draft pick. That’s a helluva field to throw a dart at — 257 players were chosen, from Cam Ward to Mr. Irrelevant.
Ben Solak’s favorite pick was the Bucs’ third-rounder, corner Jacob Parrish from Kansas State at No. 84 overall.
Parrish is a classic Todd Bowles cornerback — feisty, instinctive in zone, able to press and an excellent tackler in space. He reminds me of Tykee Smith, a 2024 third-rounder who emerged as a key nickel defender for Tampa Bay. The Bucs needed to add depth to their secondary, and they got a perfect scheme and culture fit in Parrish.
From what Joe has seen of the guy, Parrish seems sticky. That’s a good sign.
And Parrish is quick. That’s always a plus.
And Parrish can tackle! Thank you, God!
The way the game has slipped defensively, any corner who can tackle has an edge over dang near everyone as long as he can defend a pass, of course.
This ain’t luck, its grit🍀

Just about every pick has been someones favorite pick, even Tez got hyped

Parrish would look like a throw back wearing number 20….hello? Ronde? hello? on a side note – can us mere mortals expect any content from the Joe’s from this weekends festivities at One Buc?

Given how poorly the secondary played last year, I’m feeling a little optimistic. But as they say, proof is in the pudding. Let’s get this thing rolling!

Jacob does look “sticky”!
Rookie Parrish vs Christian Izien should be an excellent TC and preseason battle for the slot CB ‘starting’ position.
If Parrish wins – it will be the 3rd year in a row a rookie mans that spot (Izien, Smith, Parrish).
He’s a bit short for outside in the NFL which is where Parrish played the majority of snaps at K-State – but with a 4.35 – 40, a 1.54 sec 10 yard split, a 37.5″ vertical and a 10’9″ broad jump – he’s got the speed, quicks, hops and explosiveness to merit some practice snaps outside as well – just in case the injury bug hits the CB room hard again this year. Pretty sure Parrish would be a better option from day 1 to play outside than either Hayes or Funderburk if a couple CBs wind up in the tub for 1 or more games……

I just really love the depth factor here. If we have Parrish playing nickel and Smith can move to safety, we will have one of the most cross-trained and versatile backups in Izien as any team in the NFL. At this point he’s played a lot of snaps at both nickel and safety and even some at outside corner. The dude has a ton of experience and is very reliable. I love it. We weren’t prepared for last year’s injuries but we’re ready this year and if we don’t have as many injuries, just pure icing on the cake.
Just please no injuries at ILB, DT, OT or QB.

we miss you ronde

So, this dude must also be able to be able to drop eight yards deeper than any receiver in his zone responsibility before letting him catch the ball. A key job attribute for Bucs pass defense.

Parrish, Smith, AWJr, Zion, Morrison, Izien… the youth movement at DB is looking good. Probably a safety away from depth at that position but they have a few guys who can play several positions

He is quick, uses his hands a lot – I wonder if that is going to get him some PI calls? The vets are going to have to teach him to hide that a bit.

Man… We should benefit from some serious iron sharpens iron competition between our WRs and CBs
May 8th, 2025 at 3:01 pm
Yeah he’s gonna have to learn to be a bit less handsy while running downfield with WRs… or else get better at hiding it.
But I love the tenacity he plays with and he does appear to be instinctive.

Todd will straighten him out.
Play off the line 15 yards, especially on 3rd and 7 or 4th and 5.
It’s a winning strategy indeed.
Proof is in all the playoff wins that are pilling up.
Best defense in the league.

ToddBowles#1 – we all get it. Your takes are getting boring. Let’s see if things improve.

” ToddBowles#1 – we all get it. Your takes are getting boring. Let’s see if things improve.”
What? I was trying to be positive!
With a little sarcasm.
Just trying to liven up the bunch here.
How boring is the mindless unrealistic positivity anyway?
I’ll answer, very boring. Show some balls and call out the powers that be.
If you’re happy with the meaningless NFC South crown every year and no SB appearance, then the bar is very low at your house.

If it was the coaching the team would have folded 2 years ago in the middle of that losing streak, which I thought Bowles lost the locker but he didn’t, same thing last year. Problem was not having the horses to get the job done after injury bug. Could have been some mistakes he saw this off season as well. Need good players in positions to be able to step up, lack of depth hurt. Now we have some and added good quality players from what I’ve seen so we should be good to go.
I believe the offense was built because of the players on that side of the ball and the draft falling that way so the decision was made to get better there first. Now shore the D.

It could have been some coach’s as well seeing how they’ve been shuffled around the last 2 years.

It is that time of the year when we are swallowing a lot of hope with draft and free agency. If this Parrish is “Todd Bowles kind of CB”, we are in big trouble. I know there are many ardent fans of Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum on these pages but weren’t the BUCS, one of the worst teams in the NFL on pass coverage last year? Not from Missouri but still need to show me. Let’s see the 2025 defense shut down a potential game winning drive with 1:30 left in the game.
