Buccaneers Draft Cornerback Jacob Parrish In Round 3

April 25th, 2025

The Bucs’ history drafting Kansas State players gives some fans the shivers, but this new one is exciting.

In Round 3, the Bucs grabbed K-State corner Jacob Parrish.

He’s a speedster with a 4.35-second time in the 40 yard dash, and plenty of other strong athletic traits. At 5-10 (officially a quarter-inch less than 5-10) and 191 pounds, he sure looks like a nickel back, though various scouting reports believe he can play outside in the NFL.

Todd Bowles said he wants ballhawks and competition at cornerback, and now he’s really got the latter. Parrish has four picks last season and one last year.

Joe is very eager to hear how the Bucs plan to use him.

Nickle for sure Tykee is going to Safety love this draft so far I hope they can draft David Walker in the 4th round or Bassa I trust Jason all the way

  2. Josh Says:

2025 Bucs Secondary (With Jamel Dean’s Health Considerations)

**CB1:** Jamel Dean (if healthy) / Benjamin Morrison
**CB2:** Benjamin Morrison / Zyon McCollum
**Nickel/Slot:** Tykee Smith / Jacob Parrish
**CB Depth:** Zyon McCollum, Tyrek Funderburk, Josh Hayes, UDFA or Another Draft pick?

    **FS:** Antoine Winfield Jr.
    **SS:** Christian Izien

**Jamel Dean (CB1):** If healthy, Dean is the top corner. His injury history means the Bucs need to be ready for **Morrison** or **McCollum** to step up if he misses time.

**Benjamin Morrison (CB2/CB1 if Dean is injured):** Morrison is a polished rookie who could easily step into the **CB1** role if **Dean** gets hurt. He’s ready to start from day one.

**Zyon McCollum (CB Depth):** McCollum has the athleticism to be a starter but needs more consistency. He’s the next man up if Dean is unavailable.

**Tykee Smith & Jacob Parrish (Nickel/Slot):** Smith is the favorite for the nickel spot, with Parrish providing competition due to his speed and playmaking.

**Antoine Winfield Jr. (FS) & Christian Izien (SS):** Both safeties offer versatility and playmaking, with **Winfield** being the key lepicks? We could use another playmaker here still.

    Overall Outlook:
If **Jamel Dean** stays healthy, the Bucs have a strong secondary with **Morrison** as a solid CB2. If Dean is injured, **Morrison** and **McCollum** will need to step up. The team has good depth in **Smith** and **Parrish** for the slot and safety, offering flexibility to match up with different offenses.

    2 CBs in a row… love it!

    What we need!

  4. IrishTony Says:

I can’t make sense of this draft

  5. geno711 Says:

We have Dean-McCollum-Morrison-Hall at outside corner

    Winfield-Tykee at safety,

    Parrish-Izien at nickel.

That’s eight DBs, so guys like Kindle Vildor, Josh Hayes, Kaevon Merriweather are suddenly battling for a last spot or two on the 53.

  6. infomeplease Says:

Looking good. Two ball hawks. Now some depth at ILB!!

  7. Mhystc Says:

Josh, I think Tykee is the Starter at SS. With Izien backing him up.

  8. Mhystc Says:

Izien will be the back up Slot/SS depending on injuries.

  9. J Says:

Parrish is your SLCB, Smith is your Safety.

  10. firethecannons Says:

So he will take over for Tykee in the nickelback spot, perfect, sounds good for that.

  11. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

All good but really wished we’d gotten some beef on the D Line.

  12. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Looks we’re planning on moving Tykee Smith to Safety and Parrish will be our new slot corner.

I guess that’s the plan since we have no other stud Safety as on now to pay next to Winfield.

I was going for the best Safety available with one of today’s picks, but ok at least our CB room is looking solid now

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Tykee Smith starts at Strong Safety

Jacob Parrish will compete with Izien for starting Nickle CB spot.

Benjamin Morrison will compete with Bryce Hall for primary outside CB backup spot – and likely replace Dean next year opposite McCollum…..

  14. Simeon4HOF Says:

Great pick. Set at CB now, did need 2 with Smith moving to S.
    Secondary good to go

  15. Bucs4Ever Says:

    say what? why?

  16. Yall don't get it Says:

Josh, Zyon is our cb1 not Dean

  17. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Typos… I like that this guy is a burner 🔥

  18. Bucsfan1988 Says:

Starting safeties: Winfield & Tykee Smith
Starting corners: McCollum & whoever wins the Dean/Morrison battle
    Nickle/Slot: Parrish

IZIEN will be the backup for both the slot position and either starting safety position….

    MERRIWEATHER is the 4th safety

Wow, they have really developed their secondary now…..
    Much better depth here!!

  19. Woodman Says:

Thanks Josh I think I will wait for Bucs thought’s on the depth chart.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    4th…..LB

  21. Bucsfan1988 Says:

They also have Brice Hall as a backup corner too!!

    So much deeper secondary!!

Dean may wind up being expendable…

  22. WilieG Says:

This draft seems full of hope. Hope his hip heals. Hope Dennis is healthy. Hope Braswell and Diaby can step up.

  23. KABucs Says:

This draft deep on D-line beef.
    Tomorrow

  24. BowlesSucks Says:

Wish we had drafted Xavier Watts in that spot.

I would not trust Tykee Smith just yet at Safety.

I doubt Watts is still there when we pick again.

But if so I’d go that direction, or LB.

    LFG!!!

  25. Josh Says:

I was just throwing it out there—THAT we shouldn’t have any more 3rd and Funderburked… No clue what the depth chart will be all speculation for FUN…

  26. Hearty Dikerson Says:

“Todd Bowles said he wants ballhawks and competition at cornerback, and now he’s really got the latter. Parrish has four picks last season and one last year.”

To clarify, Parrish had 1 interception last season.

Joes – I understand you have a duty to prop up the Buc’s decision makers, but c’mon, is that what constitutes a ballhawk?

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Chances are he has good character

  28. Jeff Says:

For the brilliance of last nights pick, tonight is concerning. Yes, defensive backfield is necessary but Morrison has been oft injured and if we get no pass rush, it doesnt matter if we have 5 Ronde Barbers in the secondary. We need defensive line and linebackers. Gonna be interesting

  29. Ancient Says:

    WillieG and IrishTony…both. Yup!

We have children at the wheel…of the “draft”.

  30. Canabuc Says:

Damn dirty birds have taken two great Edge rushers and now got Xavier Watts

  31. Woodman Says:

Nobody cares what you have to say Jeff we all you are just habitual whiner.

  32. Hunter Says:

They did announce his pick as “DB” instead of “Cornerback”..

  33. Teacherman Says:

    Nice!

    What did I say?

    Grab 2-3 corners!

I would still grab another 4.3 CB in the 7th.

  34. BucsFan81 Says:

I would think tomorrow they will look to draft LB and edge rusher. Pretty set at CB now.

  35. Joaquim Valente Says:

Josh you’re an idiot if you think Zion is not a starter for this team.

  36. Aqualung Says:

Todd will rotate him as a spell for Vita and Braswell, while they work on their pass coverage capabilities.

  37. Josh Says:

If Dean were healthy, he’d beat out McCollum—just like he did last year. So with this draft, *if*—and it’s a big *IF*—he’s healthy, McCollum’s looking like the backup to Morrison.

For everyone acting like Dean is trash: come on, let’s be real—Will he ever be the exact same after the injuries? Maybe not. He won The Bucs a Super Bowl though don’t act like he’s some scrub. If hes still not healthy then that’s the case, sure, he’s the backup. But honestly, if he’s healthy and still ends up as the backup, that’s a win/win. That means we’ve got real depth at corner.

Not even a Dean fan here honestly—I just want the best guys on the field. And when he’s healthy? He’s a good/solid corner. The keyword is *when*.

  38. BucsFanNC Says:

Keep Dean. You’re paying him peanuts compared to the market for cbs. Besides we need the depth.

  39. Brandon Says:

McCollom is not riding the bench behind anybody. Some of you are showing a low football IQ.

  40. heyjude Says:

Both new cbs seem pretty good and certainly Jason and Todd did their due diligence of vetting on both of their injuries before drafting them. We needed cbs and the Bucs have a plan. Looking forward to the season. Go Bucs!

Won’t lie, I am disappointed that the Cowboys got Donovan Ezeiruaku, nonetheless we will see what today brings.

  41. garro Says:

“Joe is very eager to hear how the Bucs plan to use him.”

He has been drafted (third round pick!) to replace Tykee at NB.

I seem to be in the minority on this. I see this as being absurd.

No guarantee Tykee can plug in at safety and do any better than Whitehead did.
As usual, I hope I am wrong on this.

    Go Bucs!

  42. Vanessa Anne Says:

Joe, you’d asked in a previous post if Jamel Dean should be worried after the Bucs drafted Benjamin Morrison.

I replied only if they draft another CB.

    Yes, Jamel should be worried.

  43. Call JL Says:

Game is won up front. Where is the edge help??

  44. Larrd Says:

McCollum is an emerging player. I do not see him as a backup. They could consider him at safety if Dean sticks around and Morrison is ready. He can hit!

  45. MadMax Says:

Man, i was supposed to just nap for an hour right before the draft….that melatonin said nope lol. Missed the whole thing. But man, so glad we went CB twice, I knew we needed to. Looks like some great picks too. Ben is young, he will heal and he was def a great pick. I dont know anything about Jacob yet.

So, we got our WR and now two CB’s. Hopefully a big DT is coming next. If Farmer is still there and we skip him, I’ll be crying like Mike Green was. Ty Robinson, Thor and Elijah Roberts are still late rounders i like. RB Kalel Mullings if still there and the others are gone, check him out. He would be our Derrick Henry.

  46. JReel Buc Says:

Who is this guy making a depth chart doesn’t even know whoCB1 Is

  47. Ugotrobbed Says:

D- so far! All the defensive studs available in this years draft…and this is who we come out with! WOW!

  48. KABucs Says:

How do you know they’re defensive studs? This draft is pretty much devoid of any real studs. There was definitely one, not sure about after that. EE was probably a bigger football stud then most will know yet. See how he look midseason. You just have to try and find some players you hope will contribute somewhere for 2025. Every year many websites tell us who the best players are and half of it is wrong. The Bucs do their own exhaustive research and it’s paid off the last 3 years. Too many people on here thinking they know things… just reading a hodgepodge of random websites and regurgitating the info “they know” and their negative opinions here. LOL Sad!

I can read websites too but I’m not going to garner a strong opinion from that and I’ll take it all with a grain of salt when all these websites didagree with each other half the time. AND, quit falling for the clickbait.

In Licht we trust… he’s earned that.

  49. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

BucFanNC nailed it. Crazy how Dean went from being overpaid to a bargain in one offseason

  50. Josh Says:

I really need to emphasize that I’m not a Dean fan. He’s a good—maybe even just okay—player, but he was never great. Let’s be real, he’s never been great. That said, he was a legitimate starting corner in the NFL who helped win the Buccaneers a Super Bowl.

He’s not slow either its not like McCollum is burning him—he ran a 4.3 coming out of college. He has excellent size, knows the system, and oh yeah, Bowles loves him.

Like it or not, he’s currently the favorite to be CB1 (IF HE’S HEALTHY)—and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I hope McCollum and/or Morrison outplays him, but as of now, when healthy, Dean is the Buccaneers’ CB1. Whether that’s right or wrong, it’s the reality.

Statistically, the Bucs were a much better team when he was on the field.
