Jason Licht: “I Haven’t Made A Single Call Yet”

April 22nd, 2025

So Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht took a break today from ordering junk food to speak to fans via the WFLA-TV studios.

The Rondé Barber Show is a new streaming thing apparently presented by the Bucs, where the Bucs legend is mastering the art of talking slowly and chuckling a lot.

However, he did have Licht as a guest today for the inaugural show.

Licht acknowledged reading a pre-draft report claiming the Bucs are trying to trade back. “I haven’t made a single call yet. So I don’t know where those reports come from,” Licht said.

Does Licht want to trade back and collect picks? He shrugged it off as a practice that might be in his rear view mirror.

“If you like a player, you might as well just take him. It’s worth it in the end,” Licht said.

Joe’s mind went right to thinking about the Bucs’ 2022 draft, when they traded out of Round 1 and grabbed Logan Hall (5 1/2 sacks in 10 starts last year) with the first pick of Round 2.

As for Thursday’s first round, Licht likes his position at No. 19.

“I think we can get the same player here [at 19] that we can at several picks in front of us, the same level of player,” Licht said. “So I think it’s a good year to be picking there; I mean, of course I wish we were picking No. 32.”

Pro football whatever it is, just announced that Jihad Campbell will be ready for training camp

  2. Ancient Says:

Nope @Beeej…they were citing Slap-aport and his supposed opinion likely fueled by agents (veiled as “doctors”).

He says anything. And blows back and forth in the wind.

I’ll roll with Albert Breer’s long-tenured credibility over Slap-aport fed “news”. PUP Candidate likely according to many teams, jeopardizing start of year too.

If true he will almost assuredly go in the top 15. We won’t sniff him. It’s all good because my eyes are still on DE from BC. Bring on Thursday!

From Josh Alper from Pro Football Talk “Campbell’s doctor said he should be ready to go for training camp this summer.”

As I had said earlier, I expected a statement from his representatives the week of the draft. Did it happen? Yup.

What does this mean? Who knows. I am sure that NFL teams would love to see the updated MRI of his shoulder from this week. Are his representatives providing it? Probably not.

The other part of the report says that he has progressed to running.

Really! Amazing that a month after you have a shoulder surgery that the dude can run???? I want to hear when he can do the 225lb bench press 15 to 25 times for that shoulder — that would feel more important. Or maybe more importantly how many Fly’s can he do.

It would be nice to drop a few spots and still land our guy plus an extra pick. It happened when we got Big V….i even remember posting here we might be able to do that, and boom. This time i would say thats possible with Emmanwori, Starks, Harmon, and Eze. But someone has to want somebody bad and make us the right offer. In some of my mocks with trades, i had us walking away with 7 or 8 players. Thats why scouting the later rd guys are important too. I like that DT Elijah Roberts, and CB Isas Waxter….also DT Thor.

Bingo. “His” doctor (read: doctor being paid by Campbell) two days before the draft claims he will be ready by training camp.

  7. Capt Ahab Says:

One a different note, if Licht trades back and gets an additional 3rd rounder, perhaps Cam Skattebo? Yes, I understand we are stacked at running back with Irving, White and Tucker. Isn’t White in a contract year, great receiver, average running back. I’ve watched Skattebo’s tape, he’s a rolling manhole cover, great hands and apparently from what I’ve read not shabby in pass protection.
Bucky Irving and Cam Skattebo would bring back memories of Dunn and Alstott, my thinking is that he would immediately become a fan favorite and exciting for this franchise and a fan base favorite. What his tape, this guy plays hard.

Don’t think you’ll see alot of movement in the 1st round of this draft. The players i think will be graded so closely that the value just won’t be there for teams to want to move up.

  9. JimBobBuc Says:

Licht wouldn’t admit to such calls anyway.

  10. Saskbucs Says:

I don’t think Licht would say the pick is for sale until he gets a real good idea of who is there. Likely right after the Bengals pick.

  11. garro Says:

Licht is not a dummy. Has he called anyone on his Rolodex yet? I would bet he has a short list of folks ready to go if not.

Not sure what the talk slow reference is Joe. Enlighten me?

    Go Bucs!

  12. garro Says:

I do not for second buy the 6-8 month recover time for rotator cuff surgery either Joe. Training camp is possible but…Lies are being tolld everywhere.

    Go Bucs!

  13. Teacherman Says:

Where are they predicting that the Boise State RB Jeanty going?

    Could he drop to us?

I know it would be crazy. But I wouldn’t mind have Jeanty and Bucky on our roster.

    Thunder and Lightning.

  14. heyjude Says:

Donovan Ezeiruaku at number 19! ***crossing fingers***

  15. rrsrq Says:

I misread that, I thought the headline said that Licht had not made a “Signal call yet”

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

He’s not dropping to #19, “Teach.” Yates had Cohen shocking everyone at #5 to the Jags last night, & then Spytek keeps ‘acting’ as it’s a ‘done-deal’ for the Raiders and Pete Carroll at #6… Either way, he’s NOT getting past the Cowboys at #12, guaranteed. But, who would be the “Thunder,” & which one would be the “Lightning,” since Bucky is neither, lightning” fast, non a punishing bruiser-type!?”:/
