“I Think You’ll Be Looking At The Sack Leader”

Calijah Kancey has a legendary 2025 season on his mind.
Today, the Bucs’ first day back to work for the season, Kancey stepped to the One Buc Palace podium and was very firm with the Tampa Bay media.
Asked what his season might look like if he finds a way to stay healthy, Kancey put his foot down.
“I think you’ll be looking at the sack leader, if he suits up for all 17 games,” Kancey said of himself.
Does that mean the Bucs’ sacks leader, or the NFL king? “In the league,” Kancey said.
Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman then quipped to Kancey, “That’s more than [Haason] Reddick.”
Kancey shot back. “Hey, we going to compete. We’re going to race. We’re going to get there.”
Regarding his health, Kancey said he feels the calf pulls/tears that cost him early-season games in each of his first two seasons are behind him. He said he’s doing everything to not miss games.

Best part of the story was his focus on his calf. Those two 4 game late starts were detrimental to the team. Glad they’ve made it an off season focus.

That pass rush can come from everywhere. Hall played well but he looks like the weak link in that lineup.

If he stays healthy 10-12 sacks are certainly possible imo. Guy gets back there fast!
If Jayden Daniels was Jared Goff … Kancey had 3 sacks in that playoff game.

Love his game, if he plays the entire year he could make it happen. Hopefully he gets some help in round 1.

Hoping this is the year that Kancey – through his play – brings to life again the sincere comparisons to Aaron Donald.
Leading the league in sacks from his DT position would certainly do it…..

Barring injury, I personally guarantee that nobody will beat out SVD to start next to LVD this season.

This is HIS time. Year number-3. He has to ‘break-out’ this year. He has to be DOMINATE. He needs to be the tone setter, that opens everything up for the rest of the defense to THRIVE. He’s. Gotta. STEP. UP. We need an “Aaron Donald-Esque” type of year from him. Depending on our health, and with what we do in the draft (and with Ramsey & Gilmore)… THIS Defense (with a few tweaks) could be DOMINATE, & a lot a fun to watch. They need some juice. Swagger. That mindset and edge back. And, it all starts with HIM. Let’s Go!!!!

And that’s before we add in Reddick or a potential edge draft pick.
If Yaya can just finish he could easily be a double digit guy this year along with Kancey.
Hopefully Braswell makes a jump too.
Just got to shore up 2nd and 3rd levels with some new talent/depth, and we could have an awesome defense this season.

Kancey, Reddick, YaYa will get their chance to compete for sacks if the offense rolls and puts up points early. They’ll be able to tee off. They can all reach 10 + sacks this year …. IF SirV or LVD (or Jihaad) can cover the middle an not let QBs release under 2.4 seconds.

It’s pretty Clear that if you put Calijah Kancy on the edges at least a few times a game, we might just BE looking at the NFL’s Leader in sacks…

If Nolen from Ole Miss is there, I’d take him at 19. We could use some D-line help. The Eagles showed what a 4 man DT rotation can do. VV isn’t getting younger and we need to re-stock the shelves

He sounds pissed off to me which is a good thing, he should be. Sounds like he/they’ve got the calf thing figured out. Moving him around as Obvious says is correct, they did that with Donald at times. DR getting that 1 OR 2 DL’s/ combo Edge would help that a lot which is the way to go and wouldn’t shock me if that’s what they do. I’m actually looking forward to the 2-4th rounds more than the 1st but that may tell us where they go but again it’s got to be BPA within reason.
If these guys start tearing it up early those young guys are gonna get juiced and feed off that energy so long as they don’t hit the wall but we have enough veteran guys to help them with that.

I predicted the Bucs select Mike Green as their pick. What I hope is for Licht to draft is Nolen or Ken Grant.. Another big guy for the middle of the line, a sub for Vea, or play along side of Vita and put Kancy on the End. Solves multiple problems. An Edge rusher like Green/Pierce Jr/etc. only solve (maybe) one issue (the outside rush). Nolen/Grant solves multiple needs.

Imagine Kenneth Grant in a rotation with Kancey and Vea. Just wow. Emmanwori would greatly improve our D as well. Either one of these guys in the first round and we hit a home run imo
