Bucs Pull Simeon Rice Out Of Retirement (Sort Of)

April 17th, 2025

Bucs great DE Simeon Rice.

The second-greatest edge rusher in Bucs history will once again represent his old team.

Just not on the field.

Simeon Rice, the former star edge rusher who made the 1990s-2000s defense complete will be in Green Bay next week as a Bucs representative in the 2025 NFL draft.

On the second night of the draft — Friday, April 25 — the NFL has stars of the NFL’s past represent their old teams and announce the pick for Round 2.

The Bucs decided to pull from the bullpen the charismatic Rice, who should have been the MVP of the Bucs’ first Super Bowl win in January 2003.

And Rice, being sort of unpredictable, may just put on a short show for the Bucs when they select (currently) at No. 53.

Joe isn’t sure there is an Illinois player worth drafting at No. 53 to get Rice fired up.

This cat is cooler than the other side of the pillow. He was one hallaciouse football player. Dude is the defenition of sleek. He can come play football for my team any-day. I wish.

  4. The Big Sombreo Says:

He was a monster… stats were amazing… his play was critical to the 1st Bucs Super Bowl…….. much like Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul for the Bucs second Super Bowl.

I am a firm believer in this!

  5. KABucs Says:

Would be kind of cool if we drafted an edge rusher at number two. For no other reason than Rice is announcing him. ๐Ÿ˜†

  6. FireBowlesNow Says:

He was a beast for us.

His sack of Rich Gannon in the first quarter of the SB set the tone for the entire game.

Might fire up the DVD tonight to enjoy it again.

Wish we could fire Bowles and bring Gruden back.

  7. Irishmist Says:

If only we could clone him.

  8. Jeff Says:

Heโ€™s HOF worthy. Dominate edge rushers are a rare breed. The unicorns of the NFL.

Excellent! Get him in the HOF!

    Should be electric!

  11. BucVoyager Says:

Him not being in the HOF is a crime. He was a menace before he was a Buc and was a big reason for the ring.

  12. SlyPirate Says:

Rick should have been the MVP of the Super Bowl?

Never heard anyone say that. Two INTs that sealed the game still gets my vote.

  13. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

I swear sometimes you are just a click whore.

  14. Eric Says:

The HofF is a joke until he get in!

    Master of the strip sack

  23. lambchop Says:

This is the beginning of the Rice to the HOF exposure tour. Let it begin, it definitely needs to be done.

  24. NJbucs23 Says:

    Hall of Farmer

Good choice to represent us for the draft pick.

    Go Bucs !

  25. Leighroy Says:

I was curious so looked it up…

Terrell Suggs 139, John Abraham 133.5, Leslie O’Neal 132.5 and Robert Mathis 123 are all ahead of Rice on the all-time sacks list and also not in the HOF. Von Miller 129.5 not yet eligible.

Ira’s on the record saying it, but I have to agree, it’ll be a tough task for Rice to get in.

I’d have to believe he is on the Ring of Honor shortlist though!

    Thank you! Donโ€™t be a stranger. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Hail2dabucs Says:

At one time , he was going for the record of most games in a row of a strip sack & I believe for a season in the same year . I think he got the games in a row but don’t remember if he got the season . With a guy like rice coming off the edge , it put our defense over the top . Showed up in big games & showed up in regular games . Top 5 free agent signing by bucs for sure . Get the.man in the hall

  28. Aqualung Says:

The 2002 season, we actually lost to the Saints twice but in both games he was a holy terror.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That tells me he’ll be announcing an edge rusher

  30. garro Says:

Here is hoping that Simeon does something…tasteful… I never liked his flamboyant craziness. Loved his play though.

    Go Bucs!

  31. heyjude Says:

Simeon is a great choice for our 2nd pick. Will be fun to watch!

Buccaneer Bonzai Says: “That tells me heโ€™ll be announcing an edge rusher.”

I was reading between the lines and thinking the same thing. Licht has a plan at 53 and picked the perfect person to announce it.

  32. ModHairKen Says:

Itโ€™s time for a full on and nonstop push to make HOF voters aware of what Rice accomplished in his career. He definitely had a HOF career.

Keep trying, Ira. Your record is stellar. Bring it on home.

    Yeah Mon!
