Rising Offensive Line

July 20th, 2025

Which is better, 2020 or 2025 Bucs’ offensive line?

Joe thinks this is impressive, even if it may be flawed.

Now Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs have the best offensive line in the game. What Joe does know is that the Bucs have a damn good offensive line.

Could it be the best?

Well, the crowd at Football Insights thinks the Bucs may have the second-best offensive line. But Football Insights is getting data from the PFF tribe and those are the very last guys you want allegedly reliable intel from on offensive lines.

Is the 2025 Bucs offensive line better than 2020 line? Joe guesses if you are a devout Donovan Smith hater, the answer would be 2025.

Remember, that season, soon-to-be Super Bowl champion coach Bucco Bruce Arians said his biggest Pro Bowl disappointment was that Smith wasn’t given the nod.

It’s close if you go position by position. Joe still leans to 2020, but not by very much.

I think you should be comparing 2020 and 2024 teams. 2025 hasn’t been played yet and we’re going to be without the league’s best LT for 25% of the season.

The Bucs have a Top 5 offensive line,

But it’s hard to imagine a O-Line better than the Bills

They only gave up 14 sacks in 17 games in over 500 dropbacks
And only 8 giveaways in those 17 games, while averaging nearly 31 PPG. That’s what I’m hoping from us this season

I think a lot of the Bills low sack numbers can be credited to Josh Allen. Baker was an escape artist but Allen is on a different level with his size and speed.

We aren’t a top OL without Wirfs obviously. Grizzard better be scheming to get that ball out in week 1 cause Heck and Brederson on that left side … not giving me much confidence.

  5. Kgh4life Says:

Sacks given up could also be a product of the QB i.e. how mobile the QB is.

  6. JimBobBuc Says:

Cars will have his work cut out for him getting Bredeson and Heck to play well on the left side. I expect for R-White to line up behind Bredeson/Heck early in games for pass pro. Maybe some screens to the left side to take advantage of undisciplined edges.

  7. Hodad Says:

Buffalo has a good O line, but Allen is a beast to get on the ground so don’t give them all the credit. If Barton takes that next step, we could become #1.

An O-Line giving up 14 sacks in 17 games
    Averaging 31 PPG
    8 Giveaways
    Gained over 2200 yards rushing

I don’t care who the QB is, that is an impressive Offensive Line
If it was all about Josh Allen, why can’t he win a Super Bowl?
Because one player don’t make a team

Smith could have been the best since Jackie Slater but he had a bad habit of only playing when he felt like it. Just my opinion but if he had an All Pro across from him he shined only to go back to average against the next guy. Run blocking was not his strong suit. He refused to lower his pad level and just leaned on guys.

For that reason I have to take our current dudes. I think Bredeson did well last year despite what the nerds at PFF think. Mauch did way better than most think. As did Barton, especailly for a rookie at center.

I have been a Bucs since before we even had the name, and I truly think this is the best we have ever had.

    Go Bucs!
