Todd Bowles Thinks Cole Beasley Is Ready To Play On Sunday

September 23rd, 2022

The newest Buccaneer, veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley.

Fans who pound on bars screaming that players need preseason games and training camp practices to be successful aren’t going to like this.

Newcomer Bucs receiver Cole Beasley, the 10-year veteran who has hauled in more than 170 passes over the past two seasons (including playoffs), had his first Tampa Bay practice on Wednesday. Today, head Todd Bowles says he thinks Beasley would be ready to roll Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

“I think he could [play]. He’s quick, he catches up to speed real fast,” Bowles said of Beasley. “He understands the system and he’s played and he’s got a lot of reps under him. So if we needed him, I think he’ll be ready.”

As Beasley explained in the locker room this week, all he needs to know is one gameplan, not an entire playbook. Still, it’s intriguing to hear Bowles say Beasley “understands the system,” which is known for being complex.

Bring on Beasley! He’s certainly an upgrade to Jaelon Darden and probably more sure-handed than Sunday’s available Bucs receivers. Remember, Mike Evans is suspended for his cheap shot on Marshon Lattimore last Sunday.

Couple jerk routes, a few outs, some squat routes. I doubt it’ll take long for Brady and Beasley to get on the same page. He’s always been a chain mover, and that’s what the bucs offense needs right now.

  2. Dewey Selmon Says:

Please just don’t pull a hammy.

Tony Dungy must be beside himself at the thought of Beasley suiting up for a game without a training camp, haha.

  4. SB~LV Says:

    Good!

  5. Pewter Power Says:

Good luck cole. No preseason no problem just protect your hammy

  6. Bucanero Says:

got to see it to believe it

  7. Redeemer Says:

When you’ve played as long as he has, everything is basically the same. Just different terminology. I have zero worries about Beasley getting up to speed

  8. My Momma Says:

My Momma says Beasley’s hammy will be fine since he didn’t go through camp here at the Advent Hammy Straining Center.

  9. Beeej Says:

The guy ran in the playoffs with a broken leg, I don’t think he worries about hammys

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So…we could have Cole, Cade, Ko, Kyle & Cam catching passes Sunday……..I guess adding Cyril to that group is asking too much.

  11. CrackWise Says:

If Beasley balls out. This will easily be a DINOMITE offense when the games really start to count.

We need to stay the course, however. Pound the Rock, Smash this next two teams right in the Mouth.

This is gonna be a really fun game to watch and to see if the young guys can step up.

Looking at you Darden. I can’t keep defending you if you don’t give me something to use!!!

  12. Tye Says:

He just needs to learn Brady’s signs and Brady can relay to him which route he want Beas to run on pass plays… back yard style…
If nothing else, this should be interesting!

  13. SB~LV Says:

    MM
    FUNNY 😆

  14. 65FBack Says:

If somehow the receiver group can get mostly healthy at the same time in a few weeks they could roll out 5 wide – Evans, Godwin, Jones, Beasley, and Gage. Add Gronk to that group for the playoffs. And one of the most accurate QBs in history throwing…👀👀👀

  15. Don Eladio Says:

“Cheap shot” on Marshon Lattimore. Whatever. Lattimore is pure scum. He is scum on the field and scum off the field. Am I supposed to feel sorry for him that an actual good person wants to plant his fist right in that scumbags face.

  16. TJ Says:

Hey who is the hack that wrote this article? “Evans is suspended for his ‘cheap shot on Lattimore”. I’m disgusted nothing happened to Lattimore. People saying Evans has a history blah blah blah. What about Lattimores “history” . It’s longer than Evans’. Ask Metcalf of the Seahawks. They were both fined last year for a game where they grabbed each other’s face masks and threw down the entire game. Lattimore is a trash talking, disrespectful player and a dirty game that’s CONsTaNTly crosses the line and instigates. I can’t wait to play the dirty Saints again. It won’t as meaningful since they will be about a 7 or 8 win team with Winston at QB.

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

Maybe they are taught to make moves that are dangerous for hamstrings. They know to hydrate so, like everyone else, Idk why they hurt ’em so much. Here’s hoping (can’t help it) that if Cole plays he stays healthy.

  18. Dooley Says:

Welp, 33 year old veteran is easier to fast track I suppose. I bet Beasley get’s a good look on a tunnel screen, it’ll be interesting to see if he’s out on special teams, but I kind of doubt it considering how that unit has done these first 2 games. Hopefully we can call him YAC Beasley after Sunday’s contest, cause we need it.

  19. captivajim Says:

Beasley reminds me of Edleman; good slot receiver , quick, smart & with good hands .. Plus , he anxious & determined to prove himself ( unlike darden-licht’s pet )

  20. Alstott up the gut Says:

I agree with TJ….. shocked that’s how his suspension was written!

I also think this unfortunately looks bad for Gage. He was the lead WR in Atlanta last year and should be able earn his 10 million a year when we need him but he needs to be healthy. Brady said at the beginning of camp they need him to be ready and he isn’t. Even watching Brady redirect him to the other side of the field disappoints me. Hopefully Cole can help us out! Maybe see a little Cade Otton Sunday?!

  21. Infomeplease Says:

It would be nice to see Godwin or Julio play Sunday! If not bring up Devin Thomkins from the practice squad! Whatever!! NEXT MAN UP!!!! LFG!!!!!

  22. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Heck, we started Richard Sherman after signing him off his couch, so it is not surprising we are starting Beasley. It is a similar situation to last year, except this year it is our wide receivers and not our cornerbacks. Let’s hope Beasley kept himself in shape. He should be fine.

  23. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:

Well Mr. Glass Godwin is out…

Be shocked if he plays half the games this year

  24. Redeemer Says:

Tye make an interesting point. Brady’s favorite combo route is sticks. No two stick routes look the same. It’s based on both the QB and the Z seeing the same thing. It works against both man and zone. Brady and Edelman took the concept further by adding tags onto the end of plays, Gronk too. It became almost undefendable. If the defense brackets the z, Brady will simply find the crosser backside.

  25. Kody Says:

    1) Start out with arguably the best receiver corps in the league

    2) By week 3, desperately signing unemployed 33yo ex-recievers off the street

How did it get this bad, this fast?

  26. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

I’m not sure it is fair to call Evans blasting of Lattimore a “cheap shot.” He squared the jerk up, face to face, and knocked him on his arse. Thing of beauty and well deserved in most Bucs Fans’ books. And we won in large part because of it. The team must have ME’s back this week. I suspect they will.

  27. August 1976 Buc Says:

I like Mike, great player for many years. But being objective and calling what Mike did Cheap shot is a very good description. Mike took advantage of a moment to take a running start and blast Lattimore. Pretty simple. Has Lattimore been a jerk, bigtime, but no need to do that to someone. Thats taking it to far. If you want to fight, then fine, go and fight off the field somewhere, whatever. Jameis getting fast and loose with the ball and giving away the game for the umteenth time had nothing to do with the fight.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. Letsbucinggo Says:

Beasley got great hands as accurate as Brady is I am sure he will catch 5 or 6 passes sunday.

  29. Trask To The Future Says:

For all you crying about the writing it’s 100% ACCURATE.

Evans DID take a cheap shot on Lattimore. Lattimore didn’t even see him coming, and Evans shot was 10X more forceful than Lattimore’s light contact with Fournette.

  30. Browsing from DC Says:

Coach Bowles’ quote still sounds like a “maybe” to me. I hope Beasley is suited up and active for Sunday. If he is and gets enough reps, he might be the top receiver on Sunday. Also hoping Julio can go. Should be an interesting game

  31. Redeemer Says:

’76, if the bucs lose this week, was it worth it? Evans needs to be smarter. They always nab the guy that reacts. As decimated as they are at WR, he should’ve realized they couldn’t afford it.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Redeemer – The Bucs only won that game because of Evans, up until that point in the game the offense was completely dead, doing nothing – and Evans knocking Lattimore’s teeth out is what sparked them to finally do something and it’s 100% why they won the game. If Evans doesn’t do that, the Bucs do not win that game, period.

So was it worth it? 100%, yes. If we lose this game, that’s a lot less bad than losing the Saints game. I’ll take one guaranteed W over nothing.

  33. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Photos have clearly shown that Lattimore drew first blood by putting both hands into Mike Evans Chest.
So, if you put your hands on Mike Evans, you had better expect it to be reciprocal.
It was not a cheap shot.

  34. Listnfrmafar Says:

I like Beasley and most likely Jones, maybe enough with Miller & Perriman to get them by. DEFENSE!!!

  35. August 1976 Buc Says:

Do not see it Rod, Jameis gifting a pick 6 had nothing to do with the fight. And the Saint penalty on a 3rd down stop of Brate to keep the TD drive going had nothing to do with the fight. If guys want to fight, then step outside and do your business. Cheap shots are not needed to play physical in football. Why not chuck Lattimore at the line of scrimmage, and knock him down repeadedly during the game. Again Jameis gifted another pick 6, and Edwards simply said thank you and see you in the endzone baby.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  36. Kentucky Buc Says:

The whole league knows exactly what’s going on with the cheap shots, taunting and trying to hurt players that the Saints have been pulling for many years. Lattimore deserves a lot worse than what he got.

  37. Freeze Says:

    Advent Hammy Straining Center
    🤣🤣🤣🤣

  38. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

    Rod Munch, 100% yes.

We completely sparked from that point and the Saints crumbled apart.

  39. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

No, without training camp and preseason games you get injuries when the season starts!! The last couple years since they’ve been going so soft in practices you’ve noticed it’s the highest paid players on the teams getting hurt in week one or week two … They’re the ones who were “protected” … I used to love that B.A. would have a live tackle practice before the season started… You have to have that! You have to be used to getting hit in practice at less than full speed so you’re ready to take those hits at game speed!

  40. Anonymous Says:

Umm… it wasn’t a cheap shot. Dude was facing him. Gtfoh
