“I Was Telling Them That If They Let Jameis Winston Walk Out The Door We Would Be Set Back 30 Years!”

June 25th, 2022

Talkin’ Bucs.

Joe feels ya’ Warren!

This is a hilarious video with Bucs great Warren Sapp on the top of his storytelling game.

Sapp recently sat down with someone called “DJVlad,” who is an interviewer of celebrities and posts his videos on YouTube. There, Sapp was talking Bucs Ball and Vlad asked if the Bucs bringing in Tom Brady caught him by surprise.

Now Joe knows Sapp is tight with many higher-ups at One Buc Palace. Hell, the Bucs even brought Sapp in to work with the young defensive linemen this spring. So Joe knows Sapp is in the loop.

But to the credit of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and then-Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians, the intel on the team pursuing Brady was so clandestine, even Sapp was thrown when he found out.

“I was telling them that if they let Jameis Winston walk out the door we would be set back 30 years!” Sapp said explaining how blindsided he was with the Bucs negotiating with Brady. “You normally don’t let the No. 1 pick walk out who just had a 5,000-yard season for ya — now he had 30 touchdowns and 30 picks but if you cut the picks down and get the touchdowns up, you know, 40/25, we would be alright. You gotta play better defense, too.

“But man, when Tom Brady came to play for us, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Because now, we never had a quarterback like that unless you are talking about Doug Williams in the beginning, that was it! Big strong pocket passing monster.

“And I had [Brady] in my house underneath my name? … I had the goose that laid the golden egg in my house!”

It is a hilarious video because Sapp is so fun to listen to and so knowledgeable. He is so jacked talking about Brady and his beloved Bucs you just want to start chugging Big Storm Brewing beers right now!

It is cool AF to see how passionate and enthusiastic Sapp still is about his Bucs.

Also in the video Sapp has interesting thoughts on Antonio Brown and his meltdown at MetLife Stadium. Sapp just could not believe Brown would up and quit like that since he was about to be the-guy in the passing game with all the injuries to Bucs receivers.

  1. BradyBucs Says:

Sapp will always have a strong loyalty to the Bucs, not only because he played his entire career for us and he won a Super Bowl with us, but I bet the loyalty runs strong in addition to all of that because when he fell on his draft day and so many people were talking bad about him, the Bucs took a chance on him and he was forever grateful.

  2. Destinjohnny Says:

Some people can’t look at the qb position objectively….
Set us back 30 years???? wow can’t believe he said that.

  3. Tye Says:

The Bucs weren’t set back a day but rather improved greatly…
I am confident that the Saint’s would be FAR better off moving on too!

  4. geno711 Says:

The absurdity of saying that letting Winston leave would set a franchise back 30 years.

We see another example of fake news.

if you dont listen to mcafee.. clown

  7. Steven007 Says:

Brady b, your lack of knowledge of Bucs history is showing. Sapp did not play his entire career with us. He had a fairly decent run with the raiders as well. But the rest of your comment is accurate.

  8. Mikejp Says:

So Sapp didn’t know Licht and Arians were recruiting Tom at that time? Or they didn’t believe they have 1% of chance?

  9. David Says:

    Destinjohnny & Geno711

    It’s called exaggerating.

  10. adam from ny Says:

sapp is one of less than a handful of guys for the bucs you can say “changed the culture” here

  11. Buczilla Says:

Cool video. Sapp was no choir boy, but he loves his Bucs as do most of us and I appreciate all that he did for us.

  12. BucsfanFred Says:

Winston was just good enough to lose.
I think he’s colorblind like Vinnie the Pooh was.

  13. emo Says:

Trust in Jameis. He will drown the Saints

  14. Dooley Says:

“I had the goose that lays the golden egg in my house, I was gonna walk my mother up to him and say hello(you know what this is dawg?) THAT’s TOM BRADY”

I hollered, cause if I met Brady I’d hope my mama was close by, so she can meet him too. I’d like to see Sapp on Mike Tysons’ pod, or maybe even sit with Ryan Clark and the guys from “The Pivot” cause the dude is a soundbite waiting to happen.

  15. Aaron Says:

Even fat Sapp couldn’t do anything to the Saints lol

  16. Lokog Says:

With jaymiss as the qb we already getting set back

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

Tye you rather see Jamies out of the league because of your hate lol 😆 🤣. But once again you can’t blame Jamies for what happened with this team. Jamies came to a franchise that never developed a quarterback in their history . So when are you going to hold the franchise accountable is the real question to you Jamies haters. And not to mention he was beating brakes off us before he got hurt . And now most of yall hating on Kyle Trask already so I don’t want here no more bashing on Jamies or any other former bucs quarterback until they developed their own quarterback. Brady didn’t even want to play for us this year and that’s a proven fact now and yall trying to act like Brady loves it here lol 😆 🤣 . And now Gronk getting ready to make fools out of yall with his fake retirement just like Brady lol 😆 . Gronk already said to the media I’m going to make them sweat a little but he suppose to be a good team mate lol 😆 . That’s the difference between a loser fan base and franchise from a winning franchise.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

Osqueel you are giving the imbeciles of the world a reason the cheer because now they can point to you as someone more silly than they are.

  19. Thadeus Says:

    Winston is an NFL bust

  20. Captain Oblivious Says:

Can’t believe Sapp equated Doug Williams with Brady. Same for Brad Johnson, Jim McMahon, or Joe Namath?

  21. DoooshLaRue Says:

Sapp didn’t play his entire career with the Bucs.
    9 years for the Bucs
    4 for the Raiders

  22. Joe Says:

Can’t believe Sapp equated Doug Williams with Brady. Same for Brad Johnson, Jim McMahon, or Joe Namath?

Listen to his quote again. Said last time the Bucs had a cannon-armed pocket quarterback (read: immobile statue) was Doug Williams. He may be right. Williams had one of the strongest arms the NFL ever had. Brad Johnson never had Williams’ arm. Jameis may have had but he could escape pass rushers; he wasn’t immobile.

  23. 1sparkybuc Says:

Sapp didn’t play his whole career with the Bucs. He racked up 10 sacks one season playing for the Raiders. Doug Williams couldn’t even reach a 50 percent completion rate with the Bucs, and threw the ball out of bounds to stop the clock on fourth down driving for a last second game winning score. Could not score anything against the Rams, while the Defense held up their part. Doug sucked as a Buc.

  24. Allbuccedup Says:

Manning, Farve, Namath just to name a few threw a lot of ints.

  25. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, I agree with you Joe, but I don’t need any “excuse” to start chugging a Big Storm Beer! However, when the Lightning won the last game out in Denver, I have to confess I finished the 6 pack!
People need to realize that Denver is not called The Mile High City for nothing!
The oxygen in the air there is way less than it is here, at Sea Level.
This gives Colorado a big advantage over any other team they play in Denver, because they are used to the Mile High Elevation.

  26. Aaron Says:

Sapp is a NFL bust he is there probably only for community service lol

  27. Aaron Says:

Why even let him back lol I wouldn’t you leave you don’t come back Who Dat I don’t know

  28. Stanglassman Says:

I realize many Bucs fans hate Jameis and nothing will change that fact. First off he had 33/30. Not too important but it has been reported 30/30 so many times people like Warren Sapp are repeating it. Jameis never came close to 30 Ints until He was in the first year of BAs no R no B system. Luckily Tom had the pull to adjust it after the first half dozen games. He was well on his way to looking like all the other Qbs in BAs system the 1st year. I agree with Sapp here. Getting rid of Jameis was risky. Getting Brady was amazing and worth it.

  29. CleanHouse Says:

Sick of this loud mouthed fool. He earned what’s his and is appreciated as a player, but I’m sick of seeing his clown act.

  30. Kobe Faker Says:

“Not only is most of his money missing from his bank account because SAP blew it away,

but there is alot of missing brain matter inside that skull”

    Kobe Faker

  31. BradyBuc Says:

Sap was a great player, but a dud of a human. Media keeps him around for his mouth.

  32. Anonymous Says:

That 30 year set back Sapp was talking about vegans to tick as soon as Brady retires for good!

  33. Infomeplease Says:

Doosh, don’t knock Jim McMahon!!! He could read defenses as well as anyone at that time. He had heart too. Once, I saw him get his throwing arm hurt, go back in the game and throw left handed until Ditka realized what he was doing and pulled him out. Now he’s got Alzheimer’s…took too many hits!!

  34. BradyBucs Says:

I stand corrected. I forgot all about his last few years with the Raiders. I always considered him a “Buc For Life”.

  35. stpetebucsfan Says:

    O’Neill Buc

We get that you love JW. I don’t know if you went to FSU or just like the way JW smiled.

I’m not a hater period. However I do like to hold people accountable.

So JW did LOTS of bad stuff while he was at FSU!!! LOTS! 87 and other FSU guys convinced me that it was all just college hijinks and that JW had grown up. Regardless there was a LOT of debate making JW #1 because of his spotty character.

Everybody deserves a second chance…or in the case of JW at FSU a 2nd..3rd…4th chance. The Bucs took a huge gamble on his questionable character!!!

And how did JW repay the Bucs? He goes out with an alleged rapist…uh what charge did JW beat at FSU…and another guy with a horrible rep. He parties till 3AM at which point he claimed to be blind drunk. Gets in the Uber and “allegedly” gropes the driver. With JW’s previous rep O’Neill how many in the nation thought it was just “alleged” It was a TOTAL betrayal of all of us!!! The Glazers, Licht, the fans. So embarrassing they couldn’t even put the pic of the #1 draft pick on RayJay that year. By the time we got to “check yo sheets” it was time for JW to hit the highway. BTW 30 years is beyond Hyperbole.

No I don’t hate JW. I hope he sucks as long as he’s in our division…if he leaves the division…I’ll be happy for his success unless his team is playing us.

  36. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Quality post, as usual SPBF.

  37. Crickett Baker Says:

I’m not a hater but I can find nothing good to say about Doug W. when he was a Buc. I saw every home game that he played in. The number of times he was doing terrible and then would pretend to be hurt and go off the field echo in my mind every time I hear people lauding him. Vinnie was awful, too. We not only have a history of kicker problems, imo.

This is a follow up to onielbuc… did yall here I mean HEAR that I graduated second grade and passed the spelling test? Just the one….and btw yall Brady is playing for us this yere..I mean year and yeah gronk will probably skip Ota s and what not and play …who cares? The truth of the the matter is they want to play for Tampa Bay…and they both know this team is still the best all around talented roster in the NFL and gives them the best overall chance to win what everyone In the league desires ….a super bowl trophy …are you a buccs fan? Onielbuc ,Do you know what yall s fav team is? Should be a great yere..I mean year…stay hear, I mean here…and yall will sea, I mean see…and Jamie’s Winston is terrible his career record and criminal background will back that up…yall here ? I mean hear? Go bucs…

  40. D-Rome Says:

The Bucs were never going to make the playoffs with Jay-Miss slinging mistiming throws and chucking pick 6’s to the other team. He’s entering his EIGHTH season in the NFL and people are STILL talking about “he’d be great if he could cut down on his interceptions.” He is who he is and we all knew who he was coming out of college.

He was given every opportunity to succeed in 2019 but then, predictably, people kept saying “he only needs one more year” which is something people have been saying since 2016. Just one more year followed by “if only…”.

He’s a bust. That’s all there is to it.
