“Pride” Game For Donovan Smith

November 15th, 2020

It was so downright obvious that embattled Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith was going to bounce back in a huge way today against the Stinking Panthers.

That’s what he does. And Joe asked Bucco Bruce Arians about Smith after the game.

“Donnny’s got a lot of pride,” Arians said of his left tackle.

“And it was rough playing with a new guy [last week at left guard] when Joe [Haeg] was out there. Like I said, we don’t have time to look in that rear view mirror any more, just look ahead.”

So Smith has fought back the haters at least for a week. Joe has written that the Bucs should move on from Smith after the season if he won’t take a pay cut from the $14.25 million he’s due next year — a season in which the salary cap is supposed to drop about $25 million per team. Joe thinks the Bucs could find someone more consistent, or demand better value.

Still, Smith is super talented, so he’s a fantastic and durable enigma.

Joe’s going to pull the hope card out and cross fingers and toes that Smith is fired up to show the Monday Night Football audience next week against the Rams that he’s a name to remember — for the right reasons.

Does Ronald Jones have his game-breaking run without Smith’s block? Watch it below.

I don’t know about Donovan Smith being anything more than average but I do know the Aints just scored on a play that offensive holding occurred. 49ers special teams coach should be fired before halftime ends

  2. Brandon Says:

Bucs need the draft to land a pass rusher and likely a replacement for Suh… adding in a LT or RT if they believe Wirfs can make the switch is a ton to ask. Money is limited.

  3. Mike Says:

Sorry the guy was a human turnstile on a number of plays – beaten straight of the snap. At best. 5 out 10 performance.

  4. SufferingSince76 Says:

Smith is either good or really bad depending upon who he’s facing. What is his problem with giving his all every game?

  5. Architek Says:

The 4th worse LT in our division lol

  6. JimmyJack Says:

Ive gone back aand forth on Smith but I decided today. I dont care howSmith plays. Nothing matters. Only one game matters. We get into the playoffs and thats my only guage. If Smith plays like he did today I am happy.

If we get into playoff football and Smith gets destroyed im done.

D.Smith literally has one game to proove his worth. No other game is relevant. D.Smith will get his put up/shut up monent. Nothing else really matters

  7. Dano407 Says:

    He’s garbage. Sorry Joes.

  8. JP09 Says:

Smith is average at best, definitely not worth the money. With that, he is our left tackle now and that’s not changing anytime soon barring injury, so here’s to hoping he improve as the season progresses. We will need him down the stretch and in the playoffs

  9. Jason Says:

Does anyone know if the University of Iowa has a senior playing left tackle this year? Asking for a friend.

  10. DoooshLaRue Says:

He’s a big, loafing turd Joe.
Don’t let the victory cloud your vision.

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

Wow, if this is the best game he’s got he’s definitely the fourth best tackle in our division

  12. FirstTimePoster Says:

“Donny’s got a lot of pride.” No he doesn’t. If he did, he would at least be consistent ALL the time.

  13. Dapostman Says:

He has to play better vs the Saints. If you have pride prove it!

  14. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

    Actually almost was holding!!!

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

Alaric Jackson is the LT at Iowa. His 40 times are listed between 5.27 to 5.31, which are times of a Right Tackle, generally. I think Wirfs will eventually be the Bucs LT, the kid has a world of talent.

  16. John Sinclear Says:

Curious – does defining “pride” include losing your block, and then watching the guy you are supposed to be blocking run on past you and you watch him slam your QB into the turf? If that’s pride, he’s got it.
