Bucs Helped 49ers

Yes, there are Bucs connections with the 49ers, who will play in the Super Bowl in two days.
Sure, there’s John Lynch, the former Bucs great who built the 49ers into the NFC powerhouse they are today.
And yes, there is Kwon Alexander, the former Bucs middle linebacker who is the spirit of the tough 49ers defense.
But the 49ers were prepped for where they are now thanks to the Bucs. At least on defense. That’s what 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley told Joe earlier this week during Super Bowl Opening Night.
Moseley said San Francisco knew what it had to do defensively the rest of the season because of the way they shut down the Bucs offensively. The 49ers traveled to the Den of Depression to open the 2019 season.
“Of course!” Moseley responded when Joe asked him if the Bucs’ passing attack was a challenge. “They are a great team. [Stopping the Bucs’ passing] gave us confidence.”
San Francisco held the Bucs’ offense to 10 points in a 34-17 49ers win.
Joe asked Moseley about Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. Did defensive coordinator Robert Saleh tell the team that sooner or later Jameis would make a mistake and they just had to be ready to pounce on it?
Jameis had two pick-sixes in the game, the backbreaker coming on a shameful misplay by a guy who shouldn’t be on the roster, running back Dare Ogunbowale.
Mosley said that wasn’t the case at all.
“They just tell us to go out there and play,” Moseley said. “We don’t downplay any player. Jameis is a great quarterback. In that game, we just came away with some takeaways which was good for our team.”
Of course this was the first game of the year. Later in the season, Joe is confident defensive coaches were telling their players to be ready for a pick because it will be coming.
But it was neat to hear Moseley say the Bucs offense prepped them for their Super Bowl run.

So Winston scored 14 for the opponents and 10 for the Bucs. That’s a franchise QB worth 30 mil if I’ve ever seen it, get the deal done. Let’s go!!!

Jameis backpedaling throwing a floater off one foot is picked 6 and it’s Ogunbowale’s fault.
Jameis 2 2nd half drives inside the 10 yielding 3 points- intentional grounding, sacked and ending on going on 4th down- almost another pick 6.

The first pick-6 was a terrible route by Barber and a terrible decision by Winston (why are you throwing to a RB covered by Sherman?).
The second pick-6 was again a terrible route by Dare and a terrible decision by Winston (you can’t just lob the ball out there).

I had a Bucs Florida license plate in the mid-2000’s, when I was living in Pensacola. Some Bucs fans, but too many Saints fans in that area.

Just when I thought we’d beaten the JW debate to death you bring up a point so obvious that I’m truly surprised I haven’t read before now.
I’ve certainly been aware of this reality but you are the first to articulate it and so KUDOS to you Danny.
The “pro JW” versus the “send him packing crowd” have been debating in absolutes. Very little in life is absolute. Your point is true for the JW debate but also fits virtually all debates.
JW’s mistakes are not always just his mistakes. It is not only possible but frequently the case this year that JW made a horrid mistake…as did another Buc on the same play.
IE It’s very possible and frequently true that another Buc made a mistake compounded by JW’s mistake.
And there is the rub for those of us who hope BA can find a different/better QB. A 30 million per year QB has to be better than those mistakes. Dare Ogunbawale…a raw meat backup whose name I can’t spell…a guy who Joe has continually tossed under the bus as not even deserving a roster spot…does not or at least should not be held to the same standard as a 20 million per year QB.
QB IS the most important position on the field…backup RB on a team thin at RB..not so much. A guy earning 20,000,000 is held far more accountable (except of course in “blameless” case) than a guy making 500,000.

BTW I hate to be the guy who points out a problem without a solution.
I post only here and at the Washington Post. As you can imagine they are invaded by trolls a bots by the thousands. The basic solution is to let the posters do the heavy lifting.
They have a “block” feature. You simply click on the posters name and click ignore in the dropdown.
I do not know how much this costs to implement and it’s YOUR blog and YOUR business. I see the obvious challenges but not the COST of the solution. Perhaps you’ve already considered this but the cost/benefit analysis mitigated against it.

I was living in Tallahassee working at the capital when the nfl plates came out. I went everyday to the DMV to get my Bucco Bruce plate. I knew the following year we were changing the uniforms so I knew that old school plate would be worth having. As we know the Bucs just didn’t put out a plate the first year. You could get all the other 31 teams but no Bucs. I was so disappointed.
