“How About Taking The High Road?”

September 28th, 2019

Joe is sort of the general manager at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters, so Joe always has the back of the star players on the team.

The roster is minuscule compared to what Jason Licht deals with, but as Dirk Koetter used to say, ‘Your guys are your guys.”

The Pro Bowler around the JoeBucsFan water cooler and beer fridge is columnist Ira Kaufman, the Sage of Tampa Bay sports. Early this week, Joe wrote about how Jason Licht called out Kaufman on the team’s Bucs-Giants broadcast, saying Ira “needs to get his act together” and get Rondé Barber in the Hall of Fame. Joe explained why that take was misguided.

Well, to Joe’s surprise, somebody else in local media heard the Licht comment and fired back on the air. WDAE-AM assistant program director and host Jay Recher got after Licht on his Halftime Heat segment during the Ron and Ian show (3:50 mark of the audio cut below).

“Asinine” was one of the adjectives Recher threw out there and he doesn’t think Licht has enough of a resumé as a GM to toss around jabs at Kaufman. There’s more in the audio.

Originally, Joe brought up the Licht comments primarily to fight the misconception out there by some (not many, some) that Kaufman has lost his fastball when it comes to ex-Bucs and the Hall of Fame because of the failure of John Lynch to get in. Joe scratched the surface of why the picture is a lot bigger than one voter/selector.

Jason Licht has ZERO ROOM TO TALK when you look at his track record as a GM.

    HE SHOULD’VE BEEN FIRED……………

especially after Drafting this fraud of a Franchise QB

and all of his 2nd draft bust picks too

…….but that’s the way the Galzer Boys want it …………

They want the clown of a Franchise being led by a clown driving this clown car franchise around the Tampa Bay Area and the NFL

  2. Buc believer Says:

Licht criticizing ANYONE is such a complete and utter joke! This guy has had more swings and misses than Paul Sorento of the Rays. (Old school guys will know what I’m talking about you millennials look it up. )

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ronde Barber doesn’t come close to deserving to be in the HOF…….that’s why we should lay off IRA……

Ronde was slow…..got burnt continually, soft….took plays off and couldn’t cover or tackle….

Of course, I’m being sarcastic….I just wanted to stir up some early morning $hit.

  4. Hodad Says:

The less Licht is seen, and heard the better for him. Maybe the Glazer’s won’t notice him at the end of the year when we’re 5-11 again. Or worse!

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Sapp and selmon only hall of famers ever to suit up for bucs the rest of the so called stars are barely backups on real contenders. 55 is in hall because they felt sorry for him being closer to vince young than einstein. Low standard bucfan confuses popularity and mediocrity far to often with greatness….

  6. Captain Stagger Says:

Licht makes a fun lightheaded jab in jest and it gets spun out of context.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

The bucs had one good year period. I realize mentally weak bucfan cant let that one good year go but damn let the has beens that never were go. It’s pathetic and I’m truly embarrassed for those of you with such pathetic standards. Bucs were a bad team with a highly ranked defense that couldn’t win in postseason hardly legendary and certainly not worthy of hall of fame consideration outside of sapp. 55 was a charity enshrinement to the religious hypocrites and the low IQ community just lije dungy the clown. Remember ladies 55 and barber hung on way to long and never won a single meaningful game without riding the coattails of sapp…. you can’t rewrite history because your little feelings are hurt with the truth….

  8. Pewter power Says:

So weird how things are twisted. No licht doesn’t have a winning record as a gm and shouldn’t have gone there but im sure he is a gm, ira doesn’t have the resume an ccd the media are the ones playing general manager every week and criticizing something they think they can do but really cant. I can understand being annoyed by fake gm media and fans who think they have some ability to draft and develop. But that’s what happens 3 games in its the media job to over exaggerate

  9. B.D Says:

I think some people dont get sarcasm. I dont think he really meant its Ira,s Fault,
what was said was just an endorsement of Rhonde.

  10. DooshLaRue Says:

Yeah Joe, I think you’re spinning this the wrong way.
Licht tried to make jokes he’s just not very good at it.

  11. ben Says:

Why is Licht still employed as a gm???…That’s a joke !

  12. Buczilla Says:

Ira is far better at his job than Licht is at his. Maybe when some of the “holier than thou” moronic, boorish, (I’m looking at you Peter King) voters from the northeast retire, Lynch and Barber will get a fair shake. It’s absolutely absurd how Brian Dawkins and Brian Urlacher got in before our guys.

  13. Bculaw Says:

I didn’t take it as a jab at Ira. Attempt at light hearted humor.
Unless Joe is aware of some reason why Licht would be throwing actual verbal darts at the Sage??? Is there some sour relationship we don’t know about? Otherwise, this is a non-story.

Keep writing, and I will keep reading, though.

  14. orlbucfan Says:

The usual idiotic yahoos screeching about Licht—yet again!! Oh well, life goes on.

  15. LA Bucs Fan Says:

Like some have already mentioned, the intent of Light’s statement was to say that Ronde is deserving of being enshrined and nothing more.

  16. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

Tmax says, “55 was a charity enshrinement to the religious hypocrites and the low IQ community just lije dungy the clown.”

I gotta call you out on that one. I agree about Dungy but Brooks earned it. He is an eleven-time Pro Bowl selection and nine-time All-Pro, Brooks was named AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2002 besides scoring a TD in the Super Bowl victory.

Personally I don’t like him but he definitely earned his jacket and his ring.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    TBBF

OK you got me at first.

  18. Buccernutter Says:

The rest of our players are barely backups on contenders but talib Bennet Penn Blount Dunn etc have all excelled on a contender or won a ring.

You’re the dumbest fan on this site dude. Very very weird guy.

  19. mickman Says:

Just the press protecting one another. you guys act like all GMs make great picks all the time. Picking back kickers in the draft is all you point at? He also has make fantastic 4th round picks. Stop protecting one of your own and spinning it back. just report the news..Ira needs to stop throwing up and show up! Just do your job dude.

  20. Jean Lafitte Says:

This is little about nothing …filler

  21. Mike Evans Goat Says:

    Your stupid is showing.
It was obviously a playful jab.
    Calm down Snowflakes

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Licht was making a joke at the time, lol. Sheesh. Grow up!

  23. adam from ny Says:

ya know…these weird looking shirts the nfl makes the staff wear are really odd this year…they’re like sleeveless with hoods etc…very odd gear to have to sport…who the heck designed these odd pieces of clothing the coaches often wear this year…you never see people in real life wear anything like this stuff…oddly designed stuff by the nfl and nike…

however i do like the new training camp athletic pants i have seen players rock..with the tapered bottoms and all…

but these crazy sudo shirt jackets gotta get the boot

  24. adam from ny Says:

like seriously…just look at that thing jason licht is wearing over his t-shirt…it is freakin’ odd af…

would anyone actually buy this weird hooded piece of gear in a store per say…and walk to the register thinking “man, this is perfect, the wife is gonna love it too”

  25. BigMacAttack Says:

Ira has Class and Jason should take notes

  26. Rob Tanner Says:

OMG sticks and stones. Get over it. Who cares? No one is untouchable. No one.

  27. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Ol’ Licht Weight…The ( Former ) Cardinal Carnival Barker…maybe he can get Steve Keim as Assistant to The GM next year. Happy hours and happy times…win one of every 3 games and the party rolls on!

  28. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Is it any wonder the Glazers hid the 5 year extension of this stooge for six months? More embarrassing that a 50+ year old beta male writing about fairies, dwarves and gnomes.

  29. Noles Says:

T max… you are clueless.. 1st ballott HOF’s are not charity cases. DB 55 changed the position & is defined as the quintessential WIL.. although he was once viewed as undersized when drafted.. he sure made everyone who said it eat crow…. you are soooo wrong about #55 lol……..
