Dotson Thinks He Was Jobbed

September 8th, 2019

Stunned.

Pick-six(es) or not, one could make a fair argument the Bucs lost the game in the first half on two holding penalties — both by right tackle Demar Dotson.

Each flag negated a Cam Brate touchdown.

After the game, Dotson was flabbergasted by the penalties and told Joe he can’t believe he was flagged for holding each time.

“I don’t think they were legit,” Dotson said. “The one on the screen I didn’t think was legit at all. Man, I will have to go back and look at it. I had my guy [on the screen] and when the running back went by, I let go. So I don’t know.”

Dotson added he would consult with Bucs’ officiating consultant, Larry Rose, to find out what he did exactly wrong and how to correct it.

Dotson wasn’t blaming anyone for the Bucs losing the season-opener to the underwhelming 49ers, but he did man up and point a finger in his chest for the touchdowns called back on his alleged mistakes.

“It was Bucs beating Bucs,” Dotson said of the loss.

I have wanted Dotson gone for at least 3 seasons. I really hope he retires.

After seeing the replay I figured they got the number wrong.

Not a excuse. Refs made bad calls on both sides all day long. Flags are ruining the product. My son totally lost interest because of the flag fest.

    Losers cry about penalties…typical

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

anyone see where several Dolphin’s are publicly asking for trades? They are upset that it seems to them that they are intentionally tanking and they don’t want a part of that losing mentality.

    He’s right.

  8. Chris Says:

Not a valid argument that is what cost us the game. Janis three TWO pick-sixes on absolute garbage throws that he wasn’t even baited into just bad bad decisions. That is the reason we lost. I’ve been in his side but enough is enough. You claim that all we should care about is production but what has jameis produced? LOSSES AND TURNOVERS

The first one was BS….the second one was holding….

    GO BUCS

He had both hands wrapped around Dee Ford.

    – no, that is a bail out Jameis argument and laughable.

  12. Old School Athlete Says:

No, the team and fans got jobbed by Dotson. On that fourth and goal play, he was invisible.

  13. ElioT Says:

Whatever, Dot is a tough football player who has been shafted out of a lot of money in his career due to loyalty and probably really crappy representation.

He’s done his job well more often than not.

It Donovan Smith had half the heart of Dotson, he’d be a capable LT worthy of his contract.

  14. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

Dotson willing to say anything to save his tail at this point. The loss is frustrating and it’s terrible seeing it associated with our Winston but once Dotson is gone and the way he played today proved Tmaxcon right as well. Bucs Realist knows that the sheep are just now finding out that you can’t win without a together unit up front no matter how much money you spend. Dotson is stale, Smith and Marpet nor Cappa associate with the guy and we just made a trade for decent RT. I think we can afford to cut Dotson tommorow morning. We will win or lose the same without him and if you ask me without him we would have won ppl. Wake up and get real this is the biggest reality check to the Bucs Nation. This guy Dotson is fake and will do anything to keep getting paid. He sounds like a wrestler that lost to much in WWE with this statement and should be fined.

  15. Hodad Says:

I think we were jobbed the last three years the Bucs kept bringing Dotson back. Cappa, is not a natural guard, move him to RT, put Marpet back next to him at RG, and put Bailey in at LG where he played at a high level in college. We need to infuse some new blood into the line up, and shake things up a bit. Dotson admitted he had a tough time making it through August, well September doesn’t look like it’ll be any easier. If you think this was a bad game for him, you haven’t seen the worst yet. At least now we don’t have to worry about America’s Q.B. getting injured, because our best Q.B.’s are on the bench.

  16. Buccinutz15 Says:

I know we’re picking on Dotson’s penalties, but is anyone going to mention how bad our “Franchise LT” Donovan Smith looked against rookie Nick Bosa?? If I’m not mistaken, Bosa missed the entire preseason.

  17. cmurda Says:

Dotson wasn’t terrible today. I know for a fact that the first one was a typical phantom call on the Bucs which negated the 1st TD. Why is it I just watched the Pats – Steelers and there wasn’t 1 phantom call on either team?

You are not mistaken. D Smith continues to be a giant liability on multiple plays per game. He just gives up, takes them off, doesn’t fight til the whistle, etc.

But since he hasn’t missed any games, I guess he’s worthy of getting paid multi millions every year to play sub-par, because you know, he stay’s healthy…

Maybe if he played harder he wouldn’t always be so healthy and un-injured.

My lord this is awful journalism. Only a prideful fool with a short memory who has too much invested in Jameis or an idiot would make this claim. Especially when Hargreaves got a pick 6 shortly after to take the lead it was almost as though we scored there anyway.

Christ Joe. Admit you’ve been wrong about Jameis all this time or I promise you will lose readers.

    This is honestly pathetic.

  21. Joe Says:

My lord this is awful journalism.

Just going to guess you don’t know what journalism is. This story was about Dotson.

    From the article:

I’ll be specific even though you knew what I was talking about.
    From google:
“Journalism: The collecting, writing, editing, and presenting of news or news articles.”

  23. TheCollegeBuc Says:

Joe please just stop with this sh**. I wish you didn’t have so much riding on Jameis seeing as you pined for him as long as a year before he was drafted. Joe has nothing riding on Jameis whatsoever. When he stinks, he stinks. When he’s great, he’s great. If the Bucs continue to lose and be inconsistent on offense, they’ll need a new QB in a hurry. JoeBucsFan was here long before Jameis and likely will be here long after.–Joe I really used to appreciate your takes but a “fair argument”? C’mon man… we all know why we lost and it wasn’t Dotson.

  24. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

I think we can get buy with Smith’s liabilities for right now. If Bailey can play LG naturally then let’s get him in and off the inactive. I agree Bucinutz with your take and I like what Hodad is saying as well. There are only a few real fans on here speaking the rest are trolls who are basic to the game. ,2019 GM 1 is revealing answers to the sheep that the real fans already know. Dotson gotts to go so we can sustain some comrade up front and to eliminate penalties. We let Dot go we just got D. Smith mess to worry about. If we start Bailey at LG we can move Marpet to RG , cut Dotson and give the spot to Cappa at RT. Let Hawkins backup Smith and Beneoch backup Cappa. We got Watford backing up at Guard. We can find another young guard in free agency until we get to the off-season

Seems like you need a few more classes. There is absolutely nothing inaccurate about what Joe wrote.

  26. Slugglife Says:

A case can be made that the defense failed on third downs, be it penalties or just giving up long yardage for first downs.

The pick 6s sealed the deal though. 49ers were better prepared yesterday. Thats the real takeaway. Hopefully this was just first game jitters. Its out of the way now.

16 teams will go into week 2 with losses. At least two in our division lost. So all is not lost. Yet.

  27. Pancake block Says:

How long before that LSU kid we got in a late trade from Pittsburg is ready to take some meaningful snaps at OT?

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

The refs sucked and first call was total BS. Refs hate the Bucs and have for decades.

  29. Slugglife Says:

Its becaise they lost big money in 2002 on the SB game against the Raiders. Those dudes gamble big time.

  30. Ed Says:

I think the short week is a good thing, players won’t have time to take off, they’ll have to listen to Arians blow up on them and he’s coached good football players, he will start benching people soon. Theres no reason except for Winston that this offense stunk so bad yesterday. As bad as it was, it was 7-6 at halftime. In the second half when the Bucs failed to score on the 4th and goal and Jameis threw up the pick 6, those 2 plays lost the game a

And if I’m correct it was Jameis throwing both of those passes and failing to make the correct decisions once again.

  31. Easy Says:

That first penalty on the screen was absolute BS. The second call on Dee Ford was a hold but that play should’ve never happened if it wasnt for the first screw up. This officiating crew was absolutely atrocious.
