Jameis’ New Agent Very Interesting

September 24th, 2018

NFL agent Joel Segal.

Earlier this morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, has hired a new agent.

His name is Joel Segal and he’s a heavy-hitter.

There are a couple of interesting side notes here to Jameis’ hire.

First, Segal has experience representing a quarterback who found himself in hot water. Segal was Michael Vick’s agent. Segal helped Vick, who did time for dog torture and running a dogfighting ring, repair his image to the point the dog stuff is virtually forgotten.

Segal also represented Randy Moss, who was no angel.

Additionally, Segal is DeSean Jackson’s agent. Hhhmmm?

And Segal also was the guy who played hardball with Chucky and the Raiders for a new contract for his client, Khalil Mack, in addition to scoring the monster contract cornerback Trumaine Johnson got from the Jets this year.

Joe will just say this: Segal does one helluva job for his clients. What this means for Jameis and his future with the Bucs? Only time will tell.

Who is the Winston fellow you refer to?

  2. Walter Seidel Says:

So he’s good with backup quarterbacks?

  3. John Prowell Says:

Winston couldn’t have made a better choice. I never thought Vick would come back from his prison sentence to play in the NFL and earn respect for his on the field work. If his agent helped him along in that process, Winston is in great hands. As far as contract stuff is concerned, there’s no fan remotely connected to how that’s going to go down. But I’d love to see how both sides approach negotiations considering his future potential combined with his immaturity, the groping incident and the rest that happened at FSU which shows a pattern of bad choices.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

Hopefully he is close to cutting a NDA with the Uber driver

  5. Bculaw Says:

It’s really sad to see Bucs “fans” that derive so much pleasure in rooting for one of the team’s members to fail.

  6. Greg Says:

Winston is done in Tampa. The people on this site would rather watch us lose with the 3 time leader in turnovers and sexual assault artist than win with any other QB. This is Fitzpatricks year and post season Winston will be cut and the Bucs will aggressively pursue Nick Foles. Winston had both Light and Koetters jobs on the hot seat. Anyone hearing of their jobs in jeopardy since? Anyone?

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Jameis Winston will be throwing TD passes in the playoffs for the Bucs this year and Greg will be cheering for him.

  8. Curry-Winston Says:

I already got my bags pack Jameis……let’s go fitzy….I hope he balls out… Tampa deserves Fitz….and Fitz deserves Tampa….dont hold yall breath now….future of Tampa lays in the balance

  9. Bucfan1976 Says:

Greg your idoit. Just another band wagon rider spewing garbage.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

One thing Winston’s suspension did…..is expose just how many STUPID Bucs fans there actually are out there.

    Go Bucs!

  11. Godeep66 Says:

    @buc1987: put the bong down.

  12. Jgiles87 Says:

Winston is not a backup qb as anyone would know. Now you know that he’s not going to sit after game 3. Hiring new agent joel segal was
Putting the bucs front office on notice. Rusty or not jw3 dont play game 4. Its another levon bell and kali mack episode

  13. Godeep66 Says:

I wonder if this guy can teach JW how to throw the deep ball to DJax since he represents both of them.

  14. Lamarcus Says:

As my favorite player in the league playing for my favorite team. I have to say I wish JW leaves Tampa. JW will have success anywhere but the Yucs. This is a destination of Doom. JW was a winner before he got here and now hit rock bottom Well that’s the Bucs for you

  15. Jason Says:

Wow all these people rooting for a quarterback on his 7th team. News flash he is an efficient back up.

  16. Godeep66 Says:

    @Greg: SPOT ON!!!!!!

  17. horse liver Says:

Jameis has been using his time away wisely.

  18. Buc4L Says:

Fitz will play as long as he is balling, once he comes back down to earth Jameis will be back as starter. It will be good for Jameis to watch Fitz play and manage the game as well as he’s been doing, it will make him a better QB.

    GOBUCS

  19. Greg Says:

I would like to thank everyone for proving my point. Not one ounce of logic all emotions. Jameis has NEVER shown you he is a playoff QB and why would you spend 22 million on an average or back up qb that lies to the organization that has had his back and drafted him number 1 overall. Jameis is not a winner its that simple. We have no running game and no defense and Fitz still wins. Whats your excuses?

  20. Pittmans Biceps Says:

@Buc1987: hope someone is throwing TD passes for the Bucs in the playoffs!

Jameis is not the long-term solution for the Bucs. Not saying that Fitz is.

It’s a stretch to suggest that “the dog stuff is virtually forgotten” when it comes to Vick. Yeah, maybe with hardcore NFL fans, but poll the general population, and I guarantee for 90%, the first thing that comes out of their mouth will be dog fighting. That sentiment didn’t keep Vick off the field, but it did keep him from endorsement deals, team captaincy, etc.

What I’m trying to suggest is that, like Vick, Jameis may end up having a decent career as an NFL QB, but that there is too much baggage associated with him to re-anoint him as the face of the franchise. His reputation is tarnished to the point that on-field performance cannot overcome it.

In a league that’s already currently struggling with alienating viewers, making a big bet on a guy with multiple, credible sexual assault accusations seems like a bad idea, but that’s just me.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

if foles was any good, he would’ve never let wentz get the job back……and if fitz showed he could do what he’s done in the last 2games consistently, he would be a franchise qb not on his 8th 9th or how many ever teams he’s been on….

yall saying Winston who now, but i guarantee yall will be saying wheres Winston in the future……

just take it week by week…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Mike Says:

It means Jameis will move on from his horsesh** franchise- they deserve what they get- MRSA and a washed up Fitzpatrick-and a disgruntled DJax when the magic fades- lights terrible and koetters a klown

  23. Lord Cornelius Says:

“just take it week by week…..”

I’m with you man. We are just a crazy fan base lol.

  24. From76 Says:

Jameis put himself in the situation he’s in. I think Winston’s a good QB just not consistent. Which has been the case in college too. What ever bucs do I’ll hope for success.

  25. SW500CAL Says:

FitzMagic holds the position until he loses 2 in a row. JW comes in and we never look back. Winning will cure all of JW’s evils and hopefully we stomp into the playoffs. If JW doesn’t continue to better himself on and off the field we can always offer JW a contract for 1 or 2 years with incentives OR he moves on.

Was at the Tradewinds on St Pete Beach for the weekend and there were quite a few Steeler fans at the beach and they were very concerned about tonight’s game. Had fun heckling them!! They travel well and will show up tonight. Be loud Bucs fans!!

    GO BUCS!

  26. INSPIRED Says:

There are a bunch of FOOLS that want to see us back in the basement. Guys, these aren’t fans of the Buccaneers. You have to keep that in mind. And keep running them out of town! EVERY ONE KNOWS that Jameis is THE BEST quarterback this team has EVER HAD! Please keep in mind that no matter how they insist that they are some kind of a part time/ quasi fan, THEY ARE NOT! They are PLANTS from other teams! So keep running these FOOLS Out Of Town! GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Fartman Says:

    http://www.espn.in/video/clip?id=24780956
Winston knew what was going to happen, maybe thats why he hired this guy

  28. INSPIRED Says:

O, but Fitz should keep throwing until he doesn’t deserve to anymore…

  29. Not there yet Says:

Idiots recorded in joebucs history spouting nonsense that Winston should be cut for Fitz a journeyman quarterback about to turn 36. It was ridiculous to type but reads much dumber when you guys type it.

  30. Knoxville Winston Buc Fan Says:

The Buccaneers Very Well May Have The Most Ignorant Fans In The Nfl. Even If Fitz Has A couple More Good Games He’s Not Gonna Finish The Season Dumb A$$e$ As The Starter. Joel Segal Will Help America’s QB In Many Ways. He Did Miracles For Vick, This Is True…

  31. Greg Says:

INSPIRED likes making bold statements with no logic or stats what-so-ever. BucsBoy- Before you shoot down Foles remember that he was the Super Bowel MVP and beat the Patriots. Wentz is one of the Best QBs in the game and a first round pick is why he got his job back. But again dont let logic or facts stop you from blindly devoting yourself to a mediocre QB.

  32. Greg Says:

I love my Bucs more than I hate WInston. Of course if he eventually starts and plays well Ill root for him. Not sure how that makes me band wagon. Maybe that’s just a term people like to over use. Ive been a Bucs fan for 30 years. Why would a band wagon fan choose the Buccaneers? Think before you speak.

  33. Eric Says:

This will all work itself out as season progresses.

I fully expect JW to be called upon and will perform very well as he did the second half of last season and the preseason.

I am pulling for Fitz, but cant see him maintaining this.

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

If you gave some Buc Fans a million dollars…

They would bitch that it wasn’t in small bills.

  39. BurgDweller Says:

I really hope Winston takes the team player approach with this matter instead of the entitled approach. He has to understand that not a single team in the NFL would bench Fitz in this situation. Winston needs to be mature about it and ride things out as the backup until Fitz bottoms out. And history has proven that Fitz will eventually bottom out. Fitz is a fine backup but let’s remember, he is 35 and has been around the league and not on one team all of this time for a reason.

  40. Godeep66 Says:

@PSL: melt away snowflake. Drip drip drip. People are entitled to different views other than yours.
    #deplorablesrule
    #urpopsshouldhavepulledout.

  41. Jean Lafitte Says:

On the surface it gives the impression that Jameis gonna make sure he gets paid, no matter what.

  42. Ken G Says:

The fact that his legal team did not have the civil case settled with Ms. Kinsman BEFORE he took a snap in the NFL was borderline malpractice. If this guy can’t cut a deal with Mrs. Uber, then his career in Tampa Bay (and maybe the NFL is probably over). As Kapernick showed, the NFL wants a CEO type as QB. If you are a below-average starter losing game like Kap in 2016 and Jameis in 2017, your leash is very short before you are gone.

For me, I’m tired of the negativity involved here. The last two weeks were best in a decade because no Jameis nonsense. His announcing a new agent on the day of the biggest game of the decade for the franchise is poor form.

  43. Godeep66 Says:

@SW500cal: was JW out on the beach as well? You would think the smell of the decaying red-tide vicitimized fish would have tickled his fancy. I also heard that he and his possie had a roped off portion of a club called Penthouse this past weekend. Sure puts a hole in his theory of toning things down

  44. Ndog Says:

Greg yes we are winning now with no defense or running game because the passing game has had success never seen in the history of the league. So you think we should all count on that continuing to happen? You people that act like Jameis would have never have done what Fitz did are right but neither has anyone ever in the history of the game including Fitz. Fitz is short term but that makes perfect since as to why you want him cause you are short term “fans” yourself with no clue what getting rid of Jameis would do longterm.

  45. AlteredEgo Says:

Maybe Segal can work a trade with SF 49ers for Garappollo and Jameis can get his college degree from Standford while he’s out there

  46. Godeep66 Says:

@NDog: put the bong down loser snowflake. JW would have warranted us a 0-2 record.
    ****BREAKING NEWS JOE******
Pittsburgh is open to trading Bell. Let’s make the move NOW, since they are in town. The Jets are trying to make a deal as I type this message. We can give them JW and a early round pick and they send us Bell. Big Ben is declining.

  47. Eezy Says:

All you retards out there that thinks Fitz a career loser is the best thing for tampa is crazy. Let’s just think 7 teams and maybe one playoff berth in his career. That says it all about the guy. Fitz is pure trash and once this streak is over and Jamesis is not here you all will look stupid. I hope he goes to a winning team and we get another Doug William’s situation and this team stinks for another 20 years.

  48. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Maybe Winston will meet up with Big Ben while he’s in town and get some tips on how to clean up a bad reputation with women. I remember thinking Ben was done, too. But time, and WINNING heals all in the NFL. I think Jameis will continue the quiet and humble approach he displayed in camp and the preseason. Guys will respect that. And when he gets his chance (which he almost certainly will) he’ll have to deliver. I still believe he can right this ship.

  49. DBS Says:

Godeep that Jets game last year really got to you didn’t it? How many time have you changed you name now? And yes you even use the same exact insults word for word. You even talk to yourself with one of your made up names to try to agree with your points.

  50. Pittmans Biceps Says:

@Ken G: couldn’t have said it better myself.

  51. Godeep66 Says:

@DBS: put the bong down and turn off CNN. It’s messing with you brain and you are not thinking straight. Look up snowflake in the urban dictionary, it has your picture next to the definition.

  52. DBS Says:

I don’t have to JameisNOT I figured you out long ago. right from your insult and spending money.

  53. DBS Says:

Sorry bud. You have wanted this coach and Jameis gone ever since that game.

  54. Eezy Says:

Everybody supporting this uber driver who is practically a liar. All her statements conflict with each other. A woman calls her boyfriend and uber but never the police knows an opportunity when she sees one. Then the boyfriend didn’t advise his girlfriend to call the cops..hmmm. This is our society today we love liars even the president we elected who said down grading woman was locker room talk. I didn’t see a Metoo movement on that comment. Maybe that didn’t because they knew they would lose that battle @ Ken G

  55. DB55 Says:

Winston is going to look great in red, white and blue. America’s Quarterback!!!

  56. Mattie.v Says:

Who watched the lions preseason game 2nd quarter. 2 td.s no picks. 250 yards. Most of lions 1st team d was in. This is an explosive offense no matter the qb. Gotta go with hot hand then insert jameis. He wants fitz to succeed as well. He’s a Buccaneers as well.

  57. donuts Says:

Why did it take Winston a month to pick an agent? I think he was fast to fire and slow to hire with no real plan, which has created more problems. This sounds like a family member has been advising him and not legal counsel.

On Uber civil, its VERY rare that the other side would have filed the suit in normal circumstances with a NFL player. I keep hearing this rumor that Winston’s dad fired his lawyers a WEEK before the Uber law suit was filed. I heard opposing counsel felt they had no choice but to file since they were left with nobody to negotiate. If true, this is a massive failure by those surrounding and advising Winston. If I were #3, I would have Segal clear house and say everything goes through me from now on including family “advisors”. Never mix family and business…it never works. I feel bad for Winston as this situation could have been avoided IMO.

  58. Broy34 Says:

Jameis isn’t going anywhere. This happened three years ago and since then he hasn’t been a headache. He can’t control timing of investigations. And Fitz isn’t the long term option and he’s signed through 2019. There’s nothing wrong with going with the hot hand

  59. Fartman Says:

I don’t see how we think the Uber driver is a liar… Winston, I feel like has pretty much admitted guilt.

  60. DBS Says:

She stated she was not seeking money. Just wanted to tell her story. That is a liar.

  61. Jean Lafitte Says:

I feel bad Jameis never really gave a heartfelt public apology to this uber driver. That’s all she said he had to do and she would’ve moved on but Jameis sadly couldn’t bring himself to do so. Was that bad advise? or was it a defiant Jameis?

  62. Fartman Says:

I mean, who doesn’t need money. She’s driving for Uber, for goodness sake, they don’t have much of a retirement plan. Why wouldn’t she come after a sleezy millionaire? Who didn’t see that coming? She got to eat like everyone else.

  66. Mike Johnson Says:

Good for Jameis. He has a new agent. All I care about is what is on our plate for now. That be the STEELERS. The Jameis situation will take care of itself. He’ll get another shot sometime during this season. For now, Lets rally behind my man Fitz. Winning is all that matters Buc fans. All the rest of this stuff is BS. Winning takes care of all ills in this league. I suggest we stay focused on the task at hand.

  83. donuts Says:

It does not take a month to hire a sports agent. As I hinted, this looks more and more like the old problem of having a family member that “knows best” screwing an NFL player. I’ve seen it before. If Winston dad is involved at this level, that in itself is a mistake for any NFL player especially someone as polarizing as Winston. The big difference between Vick and Winston is Vick admitted his errors. Winston has not been as honest. YET

  84. Oneilbucs Says:
