Deep Philosophy

They dig the long ball.

When Joe has written the only chance of the Bucs beating the Stinking Panthers today is if winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter goes Air Coryell and launches the ball downfield on virtually every play, Joe is only being half-sarcastic.

It seems, per the research of “NFL Matchup on BSPN,” that no team in the NFL likes to launch the ball downfield more than Koetter and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. The Bucs throw downfield even more than the Steelers.

BSPN considers a pass of 15 or more yards “downfield.” Over a fourth of the passes Jameis attempts fit this group, per BSPN.

So, yeah, Joe can expect this number to likely go up if the Bucs have any kind of success today, or dare Joe hint, win? For with the Bucs having their starting corners out today, and no pass rush (what edge rush?), Joe thinks the Bucs might have to score 50 today to win.

Focusing on the deep game is the fastest way to lose IMO … they defend it quite well BTW. Plus, let the Panthers control the clock and they’ll have us for lunch.

  2. Bob in Valrico Says:

Hmm Always considered 15 yards an intermediate pass. wonder what the NFL considers a deep pass.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

    Agreed def

Jameis is very proficent in the short game as seen last week

Lets get jameis in rhythm and call rb screens and target OJ again in the short passing attack peppered with running passes and keep the panthers off balance. Uptempo and Get the ball out of jameis hands asap

Run, run, bomb playcalling caused us to be in a hole on all our losses. Control the game with the short game and be UNPREDICTABLE

    And they suck at it.

  5. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@Defense said it perfectly. The more our D is on the field, the better chance we have of loosing. This is what pisses me off about not drafting a RB higher. Own the time of possession and win the game. Our D is nothing more than a speed bump

I’m curious as to how much of that is because we’re in 3rd and long what seems far too often?
It’s a just a hunch, got nothing to back this up

Would like to see DK and his offense get on the same winning page-FINALLY!! It’s now overdue. Do plenty of hurry-up/2-minute drill stuff. Fameis and krewe thrive on it. Line up Simms with one of our receivers in the backfield, and then throw it. That will drive the defense and Luke K crazy. We now have a competent kicker. Mike Smith and defense? I have never been a fan of his and I’m not now. When’s he going to draw up a game starring DMC, LVD and the Kwonster? They are all playing today. It will be righteous weather wise. C’mon DK and Tampa Bay!! You are better than 2-4!

I hope we convert those long throws to DJAX to shorter completions to DJAX that give him some chance to use his speed after the catch.

Again a 5 yard toss to DJAX with 10 YAC is a 15 yard completion and moves the chains. It also stretches the defense laterally if not down the field. Getting space for ME13…OJ..Brate…Godwin…Hump is great whether it’s with long bombs are spreading the field.

  9. Bobby M. Says:

Best approach with Jackson is screens and slants….let him make plays after the catch with his speed. Go deep with Evans….he’s a much bigger target for Winston and can go get the ball. The long ball to an undersized target isn’t a formula for consistent success for Winston. Also…take notice to what Jackson brings to the run game….he seems like a huge liability or a tip of the hand. I imagine teams study our tendencies through how we position Jackson.

A loss today = Gruden talk starts snowballing

Deep philosophy? Cant keep padding stats with garbage yards…simple as that.
