Josh Norman Slipping Away?

Full-court pressure by the Redskins.
Updated: 7:28 a.m. – Yes, you want cornerback Josh Norman to sign with the Bucs. Joe wants the Pro Bowl free agent to sign with the Bucs. It seems Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has at least passing interesting.
But that may not be enough. From the fingertips of heavy-metal head-banging Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports, a former Redskins beat writer, the Redskins are doing their best to make sure Norman does not escape Washington D.C.

It got even more depressing when good guy and well-plugged in Peter Schrager of FOX Sports chimed in with the following.
@PSchrags: Rumor around the league is that a Redskins- Josh Norman deal could be done by end of business Friday. And it’ll be a big $ one.
BSPN’s Adam Schefer weighed in this morning stating Norman will command between $14 and $15 million per season on a five-year deal.
It sure smells like unless America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, and perhaps Miko Grimes herself do some serious selling and recruiting, Norman coming to the Bucs is a dream.

There’s a little relief mixed in with the disappointment. The bigger problem for the Bucs was incompetent coaching and out of date schemes. That’s fixed. Cultivate and grow our own talent without stressing the cap. Carolina has to replace him and the Bucs don’t have to face him. Win win.

The Bucs learned their lesson signing big money deals with one-year wonder free agents. I’m glad they aren’t “stepping up big” in this case. Licht knows to hold firm when it comes to value, thankfully. You can slightly overpay for the right guys but overpaying in a big way is always a mistake. Glad he’ll be a Redskin and not a Buc.

Much as I would love to see Norman in the Bucs defensive backfield, I don’t think it will happen. As for the money he’s asking for, remember this…the salary cap continues to go up every year, and what seems like way too much money now, may not seem like as much in a year or two. Guess we will have to settle for a top notch pass rusher in the draft….and maybe a safety.

Much rather have a young talented draftee that Tampa can develop and save the cap space to sign/extend proven BUC veterans. If you look back on the Bucs free agent signings let’s face it…we have missed much more than we hit.

Let’s wait for the deal $. If we really want him, we should just match the offer. At this point we are already in a win sitation where he leaves the NFC South. Maybe not signing him will motivate Licht to move up in the draft

I don’t think Jedi mind tricks are supposed to work in text form. There were plenty of us opposed to this deal. At least for so much, for so long. He’s basically only had 1 good season surrounded by all pro players. I don’t think he’s worth it. Building from the outside in is definitely not how to build a team.

Just glad he is out of our division. Carolina is a little weaker now. No shut down corner that can play either side of the field and thrives going up against the opposing teams best receiver is hard to find these days.

Seems like the Panthers did him a favor by releasing him this early from his contract tender. Could it be possible that in exchange for the early release he agreed not to go to a division opponent? I imagine the Panthers would rather keep the tender offer unsigned and prevent him from playing then let him sign with the Buccaneers

Norman had the luxury of playing on a team with one of the best defenses in the league. Easy to look good on that defense. Add to that a potent cam newton led offense and I am sure the Panthers played most games up by 7 or more points.

I’d like to have him at the right price. $15mil isn’t the right price so Washington is perfect. We won’t see him often, and since Snyder has been there they are the new Raiders. They make big signings and look good on paper but never amount to anything in that dysfunctional organization. Tells me it really is about the money with him. I would have respected him more of he went to NE or the Steelers, then I would assume he more about winning at least

Man if your idea the team sucks so bad in the first place you have to send Jameis and Miko to get him, then he did not want to play here and is chasing the money anyway. So long. Enjoy your next ripoff.

Honestly, I would rather develop our own Josh Norman, i.e., find a 5th rounder with raw talent, and make him a star.

Umm how will the Redskins of all teams pay him $14-$15 million this year? They have just over $10mil in space right now. I assume back load it so if it gets done then have fun Washington. Good luck with future signings.

I’m happy that we won’t have to play against him two times each season. The price is way too high, especially if he gets injured. Stay they course and focus on the Draft.
