Koetter Names Demar Dotson No. 1 Right Tackle; Says There’s Competition At Center

March 23rd, 2016

DotsonDemar Doston fans can rejoice after the words of head coach Dirk Koetter this morning at the NFL Owners Meetings in Boca Raton.

Sipping a Starbucks coffee, Koetter talked about his right tackle position.

First, Koetter said Demar Dotson is the clear starting right tackle entering offseason training next week. What’s noteworthy is that Koetter talked how he loves competition at all positions and even said Joe Hawley and Evan Smith will be competing at center out of the gate.

Koetter said the original plan was for Dotson to start and Gosder Cherilus to back him up and serve as the “swing tackle.”

Koetter liked a lot of what he saw when Dotson returned to the starting lineup late last year following a knee injury, citing Doston being a “dominant run blocker.”

Cherilus, per Koetter, “was well worth what we spent last year,” and was a great locker room presence, something Joe has heard from many sources.

Man, the Bucs are so darn deep at offensive line, with Mr. Everything, Kevin Pamphile rounding out the group that’s added Seahawks starting guard J.R. Sweezy.

Dotson aka another victim of the Lovie dog house, glad to see Dirk get out in front of this and name him the starter right away as he was clearly the better RT when he was healthy last year and instead was benched by telling the truth to the media about Lovie and his double speak behind closed doors.

The headline alone was so refreshing to read. Thank God for Koetter!!

HC Koetter is really a strange guy, put the best players on the pitch ! How would have think of an idea like that ? It’s so …. obvious !

I like Dotson as our rt…not sure why there’s a competition at center…Hawley can actually snap the ball without jw bending over…e.smith always seemed to float the ball to jw causing the timing of the play to be off…with sweezy I hope this oline gets a little nasty…I remember when trueblood and joseph would just maul guys and play with a nasty attitude….GO BUCS!!!

  5. Waterboy Says:

Dotson wasn’t benched by Lovie he was injured last season and when he was available to play the O- line was in sync so it made sense to not make changes to that unit at the time. But if I’m not mistaking Dotson did start against Atlanta late in the season but wasn’t in football shape after missing so much time.

Come on guys..let me hear all of you say it before I go to work this morning…It was all..Lovie’s fault!!

What a difference a year makes!!! This time last year we were debating whether to take a QB with that #1…yes remember some thought we had so many holes to fill it would have been wiser to multiply that #1….

Then for those left who wanted a QB…which one? Well we got the right one and the legend of #3 is off to a great start!

But after the QB debate which was clearly the number one story…the next hot topic was who would protect #3? It was constant worry over the state of our horrible OL. A magical draft with two rookie starters…a couple of late great FA signings and the next thing you know we have an OL that looks as if it could grow into a real monster!!! And we should be set now for years! We’ll plug in a new RT in a couple of years…then perhaps a center…

Our OL…from the biggest liability on our team this time last year to now one of our biggest strengths.

I miss watching DM22 hustle through those blocks. I can’t wait to see more of that action.

    Mike Johnson is Lovies fault.

You can never have too many talented lineman. Football starts up front!

Demar Dotson is the right choice to return to the starting line-up. Kevin Pamphile can back up both tackle and guard positions while Even Smith can back up the guard and center positions. Which means Gosder Cherilus is expendable. Lets take his $4,500,000 cap savings and sign Reggie Nelson or Walter Thurmond. Release Major Wright and we now have $6,250,000 to sign James Jones too. Knock, knock (the sound of me hitting Jason Licht in the head) hello…hello..anybody home in there? .
