A Hookup Of Hope

Bucs WR Kenny Bell hauls in a pass at Bucs rookie minicamp today. But it was a move he put on a fellow rookie CB that was the highlight of practice for Joe.

One things that Jameis Winston, America’s quarterback and the savior of the Bucs, brings to the team is hope. The Bucs were hopeless last year with turnover-prone Josh McCown.

Without a quarterback, an NFL team is hopeless. Fans are hopeless. Hopefully, Winston proves to be at least a capable, top-15 quarterback.

Today, that hope was on display at the first Bucs rookie minicamp, which Joe has christened “Jameis Day.” The practice was  boring, even by underwear football standards. Mostly, fundamentals were worked on. But one play stood out.

With wide receiver Kenny Bell wide left, Winston went back to pass. Bell took a few steps forward and was met by cornerback Dominique Johnson. Bell put a double-move on Johnson that was so impressive and so silly Joe is convinced Johnson’s jock is still on the field. Bell made Johnson look like a fool.

Naturally, Bell got loose down the left sideline and Winston hit him for what would have been in a scrimmage or a game situation, a walk to the end zone for six.

That play gives Joe hope and should give Bucs fans promise. What might be things to come.

We can only hope and dream. At least we all have that now with Winston. With a quarterback: Hope.

Rookie mini camp. Glad you’re paying attention. Your attempt to discredit your QB has failed. Stay tuned for your next attempt?

One of my first posts was that a Rookie QB gives a fan base hope. Every time he drops back you don’t know what’s going to happen!!! Could be history!! Could be our first real QB that’s good enough to play 15 years here! I’ll be waiting for the Titans game to begin our journey!!!! Oh my god I don’t think I can wait that long!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Gee, if Joe didn’t know better, he thought the Bucs rookies were practicing against the Packers. Thanks for filling Joe in. smh

(BTW, I too, will not be completely happy until 4:25 on Sept 13th)

I wince every time someone says something to this effect.
The Bucs have had (at least) TWO QBs that were potential ‘franchise/15 yr’ QBs. Doug Williams was the first and Steve Young was the second. The fact that they never became that long-term Buccaneer QB had little, to nothing, to do with their on-field performance. One left because (mainly) the owner was too cheap to pay him the going rate for a top tier QB. The second one was sent packing because the coach didn’t know how to use him. With the Glazers, we know that money will not stop them from getting/keeping a ‘franchise’ QB. As to the coaching… we shall see.

Can Mr. Winston at least have a winning season where we win the NFL South before he is anointed as,
“America’s quarterback and the savior of the Bucs, brings to the team is hope”
Look I’m not saying Mr Winston will not be a good QB, but let’s let him earn his accolades.

  20. delson Says:

Vegas buc I’m not hating. We’ve heard the same sh1t here regarding our starting qb the last 3 years. It doesn’t matter which qb we’ve had glennon mccown freeman this is repeat. Joe is excited n so are the rest of the winstonites its cool I’m excited too but my head ain’t exploding either. Have realistic expectations from winston like we’ve all should have had previous years. You don’t know winston will be better than (insert a name) or whatever. What u do know is lovies style of play this will be a run heavy offense like in jacksonville hopefully one of our rbs can do their damn job. Sad truth but THIS IS the bucs we’re talking about conservative n traditionalists.

  21. BuccaneEric Says:

Hawk, how about “could be the first QB to play 15 years here”. Is that better?

  22. Hawk Says:

    @ BuccaneEric

I could live with that… as long as there are several of Super Bowls sandwiched in there. ;^)

  23. Hawk Says:

“of”???? And I even proof-read it! When does the season start?

  24. VegaBuc Says:

Delson I respect your opinion, nevertheless I agree to disagree with your comment. Winston is neither Glennon, nor either one of the 2 joshes. Also don’t you think Lovie has learned his lesson about never letting his offense loose. And also remember we have a bonified OC in Koeter. I haven’t been this excited about the new season since 2002 MR delson and I sure hope that I won’t eat my words, but yes believe because good times are coming to this Franchise. Peace.
