Ex-Bears Lead Defensive Parade To One Buc

March 11th, 2015

Conte

The Bucs have interviews and schmooze sessions lined up with a bunch of free agents, per various reports.

A couple of ex-Bears — Lovie Smith Bears — are in the mix.

Titans defensive end Derrick Morgan, who led Tennessee with 6.5 sacks last year is on the list, along with Cowboys strongside starting linebacker Bruce Carter. And then there’s often injured safety Chris Conte and defensvie tackle Henry Melton, who made their mark with the Bears.

Conte, 26, was a Lovie third-round pick in 2011, and he’s known for his warrior mentality, except he’s often a wounded warrior.

Melton, 28, was a 2012 Pro Bowl defensive tackle playing Gerald McCoy’s position in Lovie’s defense. He blew out his knee in 2013, and had five sacks for the Cowboys last year in a part-time role. And Melton skipped the playoffs with a bone bruise in his knee. Dallas didn’t pick up his $8 million-per-year option.

Joe’s already written quite a bit about “Wiz,” 25-year-old ex-Raiders center Stefen Wisniewski, who is on his way to Tampa.

Look for more visits to be scheduled today.

I think these are good mid level pieces that will help use rebuild. Key word in this statement: REBUILD!

  2. robert 9 Says:

why are the raiders letting the wiz walk when they just spent 8 mill on a KC center. something doesn’t smell right.

    anyone?

  3. David Says:

    Anybody else seen this one?

“Rumors swirling that Brees could be headed to Tampa for top pick.”

  5. MadMax Says:

They better gives us everything this draft, including both firsts and next years first for 36 yr old Brees….lol, not happening.

  6. David Says:

Yeh but they did give up a young in his prime Jimmy Grahm. So why not Brees too, maybe it’s time for a change in Saints/Payton land? Stay tuned Winston fans. Buaahahahahahahahah!

  7. mikeh Says:

    DOUBT IT!

  8. Chef Paul Says:

That’s quite a reach. The rumor started because they met with Winston at the combine? Couldn’t be that they wanted to get to know the guy they most likely will be competing against very soon?

  9. David Says:

I doubt it too, just thought that would wake everyone up this morning lol.

  10. louden Says:

So, the of the saints say stuff like:

we would hate to trade brees for winston

or as joe would say: brees for an franchise QB with Manning mind/IQ decision making etc .. and his arm strength is realy never questioned..

great laser bazooka there – real canon unlike a giraffe dynamite kind of QB.. someone overdrafted in the 3rd because everyone knows you need a good backup QB to win the super bowl ….. at least the shiano regime seemed to think so…
or they torpedoed Freeman career later on…

    either way..

Does realy no one enjoy the challange to bring the Bucs back on the map
    (from the players)

Draft Mariota or trade back – just help the team win/build (sth. great) in future

  11. mikeh Says:

IF ANYTHING they want glennon. brees is getting old.

  12. j Says:

    no need for Conte!!

  13. Buc Neckid Says:

    BUCS Draft Mariota
    Saints trade Brees to Jets
    Saints draft Winston
Winston vs. Mariota for the next decade

  14. David Says:

Hey I second that Buc Neckid!

  15. Bucnnole Says:

If I’m an OC and the Bucs sign Conte I am throwing to his side. If terrible Leonard Johnson is the nickel on the same side as Conte the opposing QB may set a record for passing yards. This guy is not a good safety. Who the hell is evaluating the talent at One Buc? That person needs to be fired immediatley.

  16. Bucky23 Says:

You guys ever seen Chris Conte play? Might as well bring back Sabby

  17. ddneast Says:

Bucnnole, Conte has more INT’s and has played better the last two years than our esteemed Hawk who has also sat on the bench nursing a variety of ailments the last two years.
He may not be the best, but he is better than what we have.

  18. gg720 Says:

Conte is on hit away from season or career ending concussion. As friends from Chicago have said, HE IS AWFUL!!!!!! Lovie will show his true inability to evaluate talent if he signs this guy.

  19. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Chris Conte may be the worst player in the NFL

He’s basically a mix between Sabby Piscatelli and Tim Wansley

  20. pick6 Says:

the bucs need hard workers who know their roles all over the depth chart. i’m all for lovie taking advantage of John Fox’s desire to turn over Lovie’s old defensive roster and signing some value players Smith knows can execute his system

  21. pick6 Says:

ideally most of these guys (if they do join the bucs) are signing deals that allow us to walk away from these contracts over the next 2 training camps if a young player hopefully overtakes them
