Lovie: Urgency & Patience Will Mark OC Search

Lovie Smith was asked all kinds of questions about his pending offensive coordinator search at One Buc Palace today.
It’s already started, Lovie conceded, and it’s a premium priority.
In summary, Lovie said he’s not ruling out college coaches, and he’s eager to talk to potential candidates still employed by NFL playoff teams.
Lovie said the only order he’ll have for a coordinator is to have a balanced offense that’s successful. The head coach joked that contrary to public opinion, he’s not interested in running the ball 99 percent of the time.
The head coach conceded that picking a coordinator to mesh with a potential draft pick is a part of the equation in narrowing the search.
As for whether he’ll evaluate his offensive coaches without a new coordinator in place, Lovie said he doesn’t plan on it, but he reminded media that he is the Bucs’ overlord of football operations.
“I’m gonna, in the end, I’m going to make all the decisions, like I’m responsible for everything in our program,” Lovie said. “I’d like to get the coordinator in position, and from there, we’ll go forward.”

All he’s doing is cutting the grass, and playing golf. Gailey recently said he couldn’t turn down an opportunity to “keep his hand in the game”. But you might have to throw him some extra coins, to pull him out of them Appalachian Mountain Foothills .

As much as I didn’t want Lovie as our HC (and still don’t obviously) because he was an old school stubborn defensive minded coach (safe and average offense, play good defense make FG’s etc.).. I got to believe he is smart enough to know that whoever he brings in to run the offense has to work.. There can’t be any experimenting like this year with Tedford…You can’t finish last in the NFL and expect to have job security the next year…
As much as I want Scott Frost as our OC to pair with Mariota.. Thinking Lovie is going to go with someone with professional experience (Trestman or Chud in that case please)…
Damn Glazers should have actually did their due diligence and interviewed successful OC’s or DC’s instead of just handing the keys to Lovie after that 0-8 start to the season.. Promote someone for once instead of a retread.. Morris doesn’t count as they were on some good drugs when that happened.

I swear this guy is going to have the 1st and 33rd pick should be two grand slam home runs, and some how some way he is going to screw it up. and if he does not have the right offensive coordinator, to go along with these 2 picks plus the draft picks of last season, what good is it going to be. I sure hope the (G) men, aka glazerboys reign this idiot in and put some pressure on his inept arse, in fact just get rid of him now and save us all the heartache.

Ok so I just saw the name and for some reason didn’t recognize it but I knew there were ties to Oregon and yes Scott Frost is the Oregon OC. Now reading more the guy played in the NFL for 7 years. Played for the Bucs? (Dont remember that LOL) But he played for Bill Walsh and Bill Parcells. So whats wrong with having this long discussion with him. Can you make your offense work in the NFL? Obviously he would want Mariotta as his QB. Has anyone seen the Philadelphia Eagles???? Can you imagine an offense like that with us??? Yes O lineman is the next task but that would excite me.

Lovie Smith’s performance has made me hate the Bucs.
I stopped watching them in the second half of the season… something I didn’t do with even Raheem Morris.
It was as if Lovie was purposely trying to lose by starting McCown over Glennon.
Say what you want, but Lovie didn’t try to lose… he lost because he is an idiot.
In fact, he tried to win the last game… the game he was supposed to lay down. He is the worst.

It’s hard for me to imagine anyone worth hiring as our OC would actually WANT to come here. Tedford was in….but then SOON wanted out. Nobody want’s to be here. It sucks. I can’t even get excited about next season. I wish I didn’t care. I wish I was from a different city. But I’m stuck here being a bucs fan. Hopefully one day it turns around but I sure can’t see any “LIQHT” at the end of the tunnel…

What is it with guys like Lovie and Dungy? They simply refuse to hire any OC with a cutting edge philosophy and simply are okay with a guy who will use a vanilla offense and hope that the defense is adequate enough to win 13-9 type of games where one mistake on the defensive side normally results in a loss. Nothing against winning games in a 13-6 Dungy style but wouldn’t it be better to actually have someone as OC who could turn that 13-6 kind of win into a 27-6 kind of domination? I mean the most dynamic OC either one of these guys ever hired was Les Steckel who was renowned for alienating his Viking team in his only stint as a head coach for running the workouts like a Marine bootcamp…. Hopefully I am wrong but it just seems out of character for Lovie to hire anyone with moxie, spunk or innovation. I expect more ****ing vanilla but I hope I am wrong… As for as what Lovie said about hiring a new OC: well nothing new just more of his BS, its simply hard to trust this guy; he reminds me of a used car salesman….
