Jameis Watch: Point-Shaving Cloud Rolls In

November 10th, 2014

DCrab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s regular nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

Some folks out there seem to think Winston is so damn good he could execute a plan to face what was the No. 1 defense in the nation last month, the Louisville Cardinals, and tank the game intentionally early, before rallying a comeback late — all to help his friend win a few bucks in a bet.

Man, some people think this guy is Superman, or his evil twin, Superfool.

The Orlando Sentinel typed up information on the latest probe into Winston’s ties to naughty behavior. FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher reacted recently.

When asked whether the NCAA was investigating the issue, Fisher reiterated, “I just send it to the proper channels.”

A post on a gambling-related website first suggested UAB football player Chris Rabb, one of Winston’s high school teammates, placed a $5,500 bet FSU would trail Louisville during the first half despite entering the game as the favorite. The Seminoles trailed by two touchdowns at the half. Winston threw two interceptions in the first half and three total, but he went on to pass for 401 yards and three touchdowns, rallying the Seminoles to a 41-32 victory in the second half.

Ahh, point shaving, one of the oldest cons in sports history.

Winston can’t be that stupid, right?

Enjoy the highlights below.

Sounds like a loyal friend. =p

  2. Bear the Bucs Says:

At that age anything is possible. (ie crableg gate, obscenity gate, bb gun gate, rape gate, to be continued).

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

This country is corrupt from top to bottom, whatever you have is never enough. Any angle to gain is never overlooked. Honesty is nearly a thing of the past, It’s human nature and we think we are so advanced as a species. Look around, we’re a bunch of uncaged animals. Everything is fixed in one way or another, including sports.

  4. White Tiger Says:

    wow.

I compared this kid to Josh Freeman? I’m sorry – I owe Joshe Freeman an apology. As mentioned by Bear The Bucs: there certainly are a lot of troublesome rumors wafting out of Tallahassee about a true college sophmore. Maybe we could excuse a baby-momma seeking to get paid as a gold digger…but when you add to this Jameis’ strange obscenity laced comments toward other female students – AFTER putting the baby-momma-as-gold-digger rumors down…then you have MORE reports of weird behavior – culminating in what could very likely be the ‘kiss-o-death’ with NFL GM’s – gambling/point-shaving rumors – regardless of the result of the investigation…

This his kid has proven to HABITUALLY make incredibly BAD decisions OFF the field – in college (while playing FOR FREE) – could you imagine the kind of trouble he could into once he starts collecting millions!?

If I were a NFL GM – I’d pass – he’s worse than Johnny Manziel at this point!

  5. SAMCRO Says:

11 interceptions in 9 games? That’s a turnover machine, and against college defenses no less. Imagine Winston against pro defenses? He would never come close to MG8’s rookie season of 19 and 9. Winston takes to many risk, and gets bailed out a lot by his receivers. Take away his offensive line and good receivers and he is an average QB. This guy will never take over a game without strong support. Oh, he maybe able to tuck and run but he’ll never dominate a pro game with intelligence.

Joe asked, “Winston can’t be that stupid, right?” Can we say Vince Young reincarnated stupid. Can’t wait to see his wonderlic score. In fact, I bet it gets covered up somehow, and we’ll never find out. Maybe a CB doesn’t need intelligence but pro QB’s do.

  6. jo_mama Says:

Jameis is not the answer for the bucs.

He is a train wreck in waiting

  7. Jonny 2.3 Says:

@White Tiger: How can you be this stupid? In Stan Marsh’s voice: Kill yourself.

  8. WalkdaPlank Says:

I am all for Jameis, but I do think he could be THAT stupid.

The stats look suspicious, but if you watched the game I would say it looked like he genuinely struggled against Louisville with the help of a bum ankle. His 3 TD’s were anything but impressive, but he again flashed that fire and electricity to lead his team to a comeback victory.

I think he’s stupid enough to do it, but I don’t think he did.

  9. JGlazer Says:

Enough of the Jameis articles. My gosh we are 6 months out from the draft. Give it a rest Joe. First it was Johnny Football now this guy. If I didn’t know any better you are a cheerleader hoping to date the QB. Or are you just hoping because it will give the Bucs more media attention.

This site is going down hill. Very little content. Stories that repeat. Advertising which takes up over 50 percent of the page. Pages open painfully slow. Very difficult to use with your cell phone.

    Disappointing….

  10. Stu Laake Says:

    Welcome to Tampa Bay, Jameis.

  11. brett Says:

    @jglazer .

I hear ya buddy . and you didn’t even mention the sponsor ads and/or web page itself loaded with viruses ( Trojan and others ). seems like the joes more concerned with gaining publicity than maintaining what got them here in the first place. too bad ,see ya.

  12. Jim Says:

Keep em coming Joe….it is entertainment at it’s finest.

  13. Zam Says:

$5500 is a peculiar number to be the amount of a wager.

  14. The Ether Says:

    Just playing Devil’s advocate….

“…the latest storyline should be met with a heaping dose of skepticism given the source: A gambling website run by a guy who calls himself Incarcerated Bob and who, according to veteran sports journalist David Purdum, has repeatedly posted bogus stories in the past aimed at gaining him publicity and allowing him to sucker gamblers into paying him for picks.”

We need to let this play out before we jump to conclusions…

  15. The Ether Says:

Considering this was leaked by a bookie who calls himself “Incarcerated Bob”, let the investigation play out poeple….

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    How about that poll, Joe…..

    Winston
    Mariotta
    Other QB
    No QB

  17. Fort Myers Dave Says:

How does a kid from UAB get $5K to wager against his buddy? I am pretty sure he did not get it from any UAB boosters, hell their board of trustees are considering killing their football program outright. Perhaps that blowhard; Paul Finebaum who likes to poke his nose into anything SEC and runs his talk show from Birmingham can throw some light on the situation….. BTW why are Brett and MrGlazer posting here if they do not like the site????

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I would take Jameis…in the forth round.

  19. Fort Myers Dave Says:

TampaBayBucFan: add in a trade down for extra picks option to your poll. I’m for trading the Bucs top 3 pick in next spring’s draft for an additional picks just to get some ****ing talent on the roster; of course that is putting a lot of trust in L&L……

  20. The Ether Says:

    You dudes are straight morons….

Consider the source before you go on with your typical knee-jerk reactions… This claim was made by a shady ass bookie with an agenda…

Just google news search the source: “Incarcerated Bob”…. smdh people

  21. The Ether Says:

The fact that BSPN, CBS/Yahoosports…. NONE of the major outlets are touching this story with a 10 foot pole…. Cause they have professionals to investigate the integrity of the source…. Just TMZ and the Joe’s are pushing this BS…

  22. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Bring me Jameis Winston to Raymond James and I’ll bring you 30,000 season tickets for 2015.

  23. deminion Says:

Draft Him we need a QB

  24. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

  25. Skyline Crew Says:

I know Louisville was #1 in Defense, but when you play Division 3 schools (sarcasm) your whole schedule leading up to FSU it will look that way.

  26. snook Says:

Anyone could make up anything about this guy at this point and the blind haters would eat it up.

It’s a shame that so many people have forgotten about “innocent until proven guilty.” You know the thing that separates us from barbaric countries….

  27. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Still waiting on our Mariota watch there Joe….or you could just make one called the M & W watch.

  28. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Oregon vs Florida State for the National Championship.

  29. Cannon Fire Says:

Winston is not worth the risk. Everybody knows that!

    Seriously Dude just shut it.

Jameis is a Thug future bust in the making.

Regarding your 30,000 ticket claim do you have a Blog?

Or does the you tube video of your fat cat fitting through the doggy door have 3 million views?

  31. White Tiger Says:

@Jonny2.3 – in Trey Parkers voice – ‘cartman, if you don’t stop pretending to be Stan Marsh’s voice, I’m going to light another one of your farts on fire’

dude, you suck, like entirely too much.

  32. White Tiger Says:

Those 30,000 coming to see Jameis would come to only one game – the minute they found out that Jameis was in jail…they’d never come to another game.

I’m not a fan of either Winston or Mariotta – but I think at this moment, I’d pick Mariotta over Winston.

  33. phil Says:

Who cares. We just need to get Jameis on our team any way possible. The thought of him throwing passes to VJ, Mike Evans, & ASJ is worth the risk. We failed to take any risk last year and get Johnny Football and you see where this team is now. They’re beyond bad.

  34. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    snook Says
“Anyone could make up anything about this guy at this point and the blind haters would eat it up.”

I’m not a hater. But this soon before the draft?

Be honest. His behavior is what brought this all about.

If he were drafted by the Bucs and ended up getting into trouble, you would be among the first to shout “Were they blind?! Idiots!!!”

I honestly do not know enough about the kid to judge, but his name is constantly associated with negative stories. There must be a reason for that, and ignoring this fact is what stupid organizations do.

  35. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Bonzai, there is a reason for it. His name generates clicks on stories. That’s it.

That’s why when the University announces a disciplinary hearing, 6 months after they first announced it, ESPN treats it like a brand new story and spends hours of air time on it. Because people watch and click on the story.

But when Robert Nkemdiche is caught taking a bong hit or when Nick Marshall is arrested you barely hear a peep.

Jameis is a stud. Yes, he’s immature but he’s also only 20 yrs old. The guy stands up and yells what he yelled and you’d think he pulled an Adrian Peterson. Any other kid at that school yells that and people just go about their day, but Jameis does it and “we need retribution!!!!” Give me a freaking break

  36. D-Rome Says:

If this story turns out to be true he should be barred from ever playing an NFL game.

  37. KJ Says:

This isn’t true at all. In this day and age – anything that gets clicks on the internet just becomes true. Sad that this even got air time on this site – but then again, I clicked on, so foolish me.

  38. KJ Says:

Also, how can ONE football player execute a point shaving plan? What, does he run on the field during defense? Does he convince his coaches to call bad plays? Does he call up the other team before hand? It’s so ridiculous it makes my brain and soul hurt.

  39. jimmy53 Says:

I’m very sorry to see that this site is perpetuating this complete B.S. story. Apparently, people will just run with any story whether it has legs or not.

  40. Justin Says:

Joe is gaga over Winston for some reason..His stats decreased in every category coming off his Freshman campaign, although granted that was an unreal precedent to set. Stats aside, there’s still way too much baggage to risk a 1st round pick on him, he’s not mature enough to be put in the drivers seat. Plain and simple. Early 2nd round maybe, but any team that picks him up in the 1st round will not be happy with the result, unless they put an entourage around him to make sure he is doing what he should, ala Dez Bryant. Joe, why no love for Marcus Mariota? His numbers are unreal and already works in a pro style offense, looks to be the Heisman front runner this year so I guess it’s only a matter of time before we see the Mariota-loving articles on JBF.com. Set your watches to it people.

  41. Justin Says:

…Also in response to the video, don’t post any videos of him playing against ACC football teams, because I’m pretty sure you can field 52 people from this site to beat “powerhouse” teams like Virginia.

  42. pick6 Says:

winston will look like cam newton on his most overwhelmed day, every sunday, in the NFL. if we draft him, we will be pining for the return of Josh McCown. at least he only drives you crazy on the field.
