Lovie Says QB Plan Doesn’t Call For Change

October 27th, 2014

McCownGlennon

Avoiding what might have been never-before-seen outrage from Joe, Lovie Smith told media today that changing starting quarterbacks on Sunday is not in his plans.

“If we were going to make a change, I wouldn’t talk about it an awful lot, but the plan isn’t for that,” Lovie said when asked about Josh McCown starting against Cleveland on Sunday.

“I thought Mike did some good things yesterday. You’d always like to have a couple of plays back, but you know, the first thing I thought about as far as improving our ball club wasn’t, ‘We gotta make a change at the quarterback position.'”

“Being able to run the ball will help our offense. The one game that we won, we had the same guy back in the pocket, for the most part the same offensive line.”

So there you have it. Either Lovie now believes Glennon is better than McCown, or Lovie realizes there’s no point to McCown any longer when you can use the time to further evaluate Glennon, or both.

Don’t think for a second McCown isn’t healthy. He is.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network prior to the Bucs-Vikings game yesterday, Lovie made that very clear: “[McCown’s] hand will not be part of the equation at all. So he’s good to go.”

    Finally Lovie speaks without parsing…

This is the right decision….you go with Glennon if there is any chance that he remains a Buc next year….even as a backup….at the very least you draft a QB in any round to compete with him for the starting job.

The McCown experiment has failed except for the backup/mentoring part.

Letting Glennon play will give him experience and give everyone a chance to know for sure what we have.

I hope he overcomes his own negatives and can succeed dispite the odds. That way, we could use our pick to gain extra picks or draft someone who can block or sack a qb.

The “Trench Mob” needs to stand tall!!!

  2. jo_mama Says:

What does it hurt to get Incognito?

Put him in, get Glennon some more time and see what the kid can do.

Otherwise Just do shot gun, because he has no time to throw the ball when under center.

  3. DB55 Says:

    Jo mama

He’s got no time in the shot gun either.

  4. jo_mama Says:

Jameis Winston is not the answer. O-Line First. Keep VJax we might be able to pick up Mike Williams for less than what we traded for and maybe redo his contract.

Get Incognito, Draft an O-Line man in the first round, get Defense in second, O line in 3rd.

  5. Luther Says:

No point in winning another game. Pack it in boys and wait for the draft. The only people trying to win now are people wanting to save their jobs(as they should). The season is toast from where I sit. I can now just watch the games looking for bright spots (Evans) not expecting to win.

  6. SuperSam Says:

The very same hard headedness stubborn BS that got lovie ran outta town in Chicago, is the same that will get him thrown outta Tampa. God I hate these Stubborn my way is the only way coaches!!!!

  7. JonBuc Says:

Nothing keeps opposing D-Coordinators awake at night more than the thought of facing The Galloping Giraffe. And I mean nothing! Any chance we kidnap Johnny Football next week on the way outta Cleveland?

  8. billy buckaroo Says:

He is not worried about QB
There are way too many other things that need to be fixed first
    QB is down the list

  9. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

I can’t wait to root for Winston on sunday’s with the Bucs. It would be a big mistake to choose anyone else other than Winston with the 1st pick.

  10. lightningbuc Says:

No point in winning another game.

    ______________

People say that as if the Bucs should lose on purpose. They don’t have to. They suck. They’ll lose anyway.

  11. Bucsfan4lyf Says:

I love Mike Glennon, but to me he had his worst game as a starter. He had some plays when the pocket was clean, and he couldn’t make the play. I hope it was just a hiccup.

The defense finally had a great game. It didn’t show in the stats, but the defense as a whole looked much better.

Can’t wait to see Charles Sims play, he HAS to be better than Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey.

  12. jo_mama Says:

The best QB’s of all time were Pocket Passers.

Stick with Glennon. We don’t need an idiot running around.

What is the over under on Jameis Winston not taking the Wonderlic test?

  13. DB55 Says:

    Bucfan4lyfe

I honestly think glennon is playing scared. Can’t say I blame him. It didn’t take long maybe first series before he got crushed right in his ribs. Add that plus the beat down he got last game. Your mind starts playing tricks on you.

People want to evaluate glennon like he’s a 5 year vet with a running game, an offensive line and good receivers. He has non of that. For God sakes Vjax had 1 catch for 13 yards. And I like Vjax but we gotta do better than that.

When a team can’t produce a 100 yard rusher in weeks and there QB gets sacked 5 times it’s pretty obvious where the problem is.

  14. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I hope Glennon balls out, but, Winston is head and shoulders above him.

He knows how to run and process a pro-style system. He’s not a runner, but, he can run. When he does scramble, he’s looking down field for an open receiver.

  15. DallasBuc Says:

Someone please remind me when Lovie Smith said anything of any consequence?

  16. ruggyup Says:

Joe’s first two words are, “Lovie says”. With all due respect to each concerned party, this writer observes Lovie has never said anything. “Lovie says” can only be interpreted as Lovie uttered several scripted words today or any other day. The conclusion here is that today’s word play was safe enough to keep Joe from strangling the esteemed HC.

  17. Zam Says:

Sorry, but the right move is McCown. The Bucs will be drafting a franchise QB next year, and you need to know whether pricey McCown or trade-valuable Glennon is the guy to back him up.

After 17 starts we’ve seen enough of Mike Glennon’s craptastic B- performances to know what he is capable of. McCown with an offensive line we don’t really know yet… he may be a total loss but *he* is the unknown quantity at this point.

McCown’s got a big price tag next year but no cap hit if he’s cut. That’s something we have to know now.

Anyone who thinks Mike Glennon is the franchise QB of the Bucs’ future has blinders on.

  18. DallasBuc Says:

Do-no-wrong Lovie is about to do his radio show and I don’t think I can stomach listening to it.

  19. DB55 Says:

    Zam

It’s not about being a franchise qb it’s about not losing the game for us. And when a 2nd year guy out performers a 12 year vet, well,,,,,

  20. SAMCRO Says:

This is what I call throwing Glennon to the wolves. This offensive line will have Glennon absolutely destroyed by season’s end. His credibility will be forever linked to the worst offensive line in recent history. It will snowball his career. I like Mike Glennon, the QB, a future leader, enough to suggest that we trade him before the deadline. Send him to a team that could put him into a better situation and allow him the time to grow. I believe he could be an emerging star in the right system. Just not here …sadly ..not now.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It is inconsistent to say the season is lost and we should try to lose games so we should bench Glennon.

I thnk most that want to bench Glennon are afraid that he just might be good enough for Lovie to stick with him.

It makes absolutely no sense to start McCown unless you think he can win a bunch of games and get us into the playoffs…

Perhaps if Glennon plays well enough someone may want to trade for him in the off season….then we would draft a QB and keep McCown as backup…..

Glennon very well may not be the answer but there is no harm done by continuing with him.

  22. RastaMon Says:

“Lovie Says QB Plan Doesn’t Call For Change”….did Lovie happen to mention any plan…for anything….empty suit …spouting trite nothings…

  23. "TheKevin" Says:

    @everyone

    Ok you stupid geniuses

    Fire lovie and then what?

Let’s see what any of you absolute morons would do after firing lovie.

So tell me what’s your answers?

8 games in and you all want everyone gone.

My god you are all as about as stupid as a pile of shi*t.

  24. "TheKevin" Says:

    @rastaman

Ok so fire lovie and then what?

Who do you want hired mr. All knowing football man?

I’m sure you know everything maybe they should just let you own the team.

You have no business at all commenting on anything.

Your level of intelligence has shown trough. Congrats you are now part of the dumbass mob.

  25. OneLove Says:

Maybe Glennon not having enough time is a GOOD THING! I mean we all saw what he did when he HAD TIME with that “Josh McCown like” throw to Mike Evans for an INT! I mean Tim Tebow threw the ball better than that!!

It’s throws like that are probably the cause for all these running plays we call!(The coaches must see it in practice.)

Does Mike Glennon have the ability to change plays at the line of scrimmage? If so, he sucks at it…
Does Mike Glennon have the ability to adjust protection at the line of scrimmage? If so, he sucks at it…

I’m already looking forward to the future and hope the Bucs make a wise choice with their first round pick at QB!

  26. RastaMon Says:

Kevin…time to cut ones loses….Lovie is a LOSER…POSER….a position coach that went with the flow…kept his mouth shut and was swept away by the hopes that somehow…he was the same or better than Tony Dungy…..this team is under achieving….we have talent to be a +-.500 team….a rudderless ship…have you heard Lovie speak ?….TIME to fire LOVIE…and move on….the players without a coaching staff could finish the remainer of the season better than with Lovie

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The only posts less relevant than Draft Winston posts (in October) are the “Fire Lovie” posts…..7 games in to a 5 year contract……..not happening….in your dreams….
Glazers…..absolutely the last thing on their minds.

Feels good to some to let out frustrations…..but totally unrealistic.

  30. RastaMon Says:

You know what is totally unrealistic… expectin anything oter than wat w haveseen from Lovie….the G’Boyz are on the hook…ether way….mov on and close this chapter “The Dismal Disaster” at least the dad is not around to witness this colassal blunder

  31. Luther Says:

I would take Mariota over Winston and I’m a FSU fan. More mobile and quicker release. Also less off field issues.

  32. lightningbuc Says:

    TBBucfan,

As much as I despise Lovie coaching this team (yes, I’m one of the few Schiano supporters) I agree with you. There is absolutely NO way Lovie doesn’t get at least two years. For the Glazers, paying fired coaches has to be more of a pain in the butt to them than having a sucky team.

  33. dusthty rhothdes Says:

Fire Lovie…why cant you fire him? He has single handedly set this franchise back further than what he was handed…offense defense and special teams, this team is putrid and that rests solely on lovie and licht, bad draft, bad free agents…the bucs have the easiest schedule in the NFL, and look horrible, Bucs would be an underdog against the Jets in Tampa, they are 6 point dogs against the browns and that lining is going higher, I have been waiting for improvement or light but there is nothing and no inspiration from lovie or fire….hire gruden and be done with it

  34. OneLove Says:

    @SteveK

I’m not blaming Glennon for the loss. I’m just trying to reiterate that he sucks too.

  35. csidedave Says:

People talk about drafting a “franchise quarterback” like is is an exact science. I am assuming that you mean a QB who is a game changer, someone who can win games pretty much by themselves. If you look back to the 2013 class, there were no franchise qb’s. Actually as of this date, we got the best of the class in Glennon.

It’s early but what from what I have seen so far, there may not have been any in the 2014 draft. Bortles is throwing balls to the other team, Bridgewater makes good decisions and accurate short throws but the longer passes were awful yesterday. Carr, maybe and Manziel? Well you have to play first. Maybe one of these will stand the test of time and be a franchise qb but that conclusion is for a later date.

2012 was a different story with Luck Wilson RGIII, Foles etc. But I think anyone who believes Winston and Mariota are sure things are making quite an assumption.

  36. buc4lyfe Says:

Keep on thinking a guy that throws for less than 30 yards in a half still is being evaluated to see if he’s the guy lol your dreaming. I’m good because either one will get us a top 5 pick so doesn’t matter. Personally to get the top pick in the draft I’ll take Glennon over josh mccown because Glennon refuses to record a stat of having run for a first down. There’s no need to make a change because it’s already obvious the starting quarterback for this franchise is not on the roster this year. These aren’t lovie’s guys, and even mccown was a temporary fill in, lol they are both done because nothing lovie can do on defense in the draft will affect the anger these fans have….. All he can do to but himself more time with the game is draft a quarterback. No more waiting for another average qb to develop he’s a backup

  37. OneLove Says:

@lightningbuc I think Lovie get’s AT LEAST 3 years. I’m pretty sure the Glazers know that it’s going to take AT LEAST 3 years to fix what Morris/Schiano left him. If not, it’s not going to be hard to sell..

Team started off 0-8 last year, managed to win 4 games and finish 4-12, but got DOMINATED the last 3 games. I mean I can sell that to someone who doesn’t know the game of football!!

Thanks again Greg Schiano! You B!tch!!

  38. billy buckaroo Says:

Lovie is a defense minded coach
He drafted all offense this year which didnt work out and
    our defense is awful

1st pick is going to be a defense lineman
    2nd pick a middle linebacker

somewhere after that maybe a QB
Winston or anybody else comes after those two defense guys regardless of
how Glennon or McCown plays or anything else that happens the rest of this year

  39. NewTampaChris Says:

I agreed with the decision to go with Glennon for the past few games. We’ve figured out that he’s toast.

Now it’s time to go back to McCown to see if he deserves to even be on the roster next year.

What a mess. I think the Bucs need to use EVERY draft choice next year on a QB. One of them is bound to work out.

  40. sho-nuff Says:

Lovie comes from a long line of hubris…don’t get your hopes up…see:Dungy controlling the offense in Tampa

  41. lightningbuc Says:

3 years to fix what Morris/Schiano left him.

    _________________

You mean that O-Line that Schiano left him, that Lovie got rid of and brought in “his” guys? How’s that working out? Lovie’s a JOKE!

  42. buc4lyfe Says:

    @csidedave

Who are you? You do realize teddy bridgewater beat us yesterday right? He looked a hell of a let better than Glennon doing it. 14 sacks in 3 games before Sunday and he’s still being called their franchise quarterback, we are still saying let’s see if he’s the guy. Exactly not many people are saying it anymore. If you escape the pocket and run out of bounds before the first down with no one around you lol you’re not the guy

  43. Why are they getting paid? Says:

They had 2 weeks to prepare for the Vikings and only put up 13 points! They didn’t score for three quarters and Lovie says he’s not gonna change anything while he’s here. GET HIS ASS OUT OF THERE!!!!

  44. csidedave Says:

@buc4lyfe. Guess I saw a different game than you. I really liked Bridgewater but was surprised he didn’t look better. He had a lot more time, a running game and receivers running WIDE open, many of him he missed by wide margins, especially the deeper throws. I am no Glennon fan either but he was pressured all day, we couldn’t run the ball and our receivers were never open like his were, not even close.

Glennon and McCown would look great against our defense, just like they did in camp. The Vikings defense is so much tougher than ours. They have about 25 sacks so far to our 10. Come on.

  45. "TheKevin" Says:

    @lightning buc

    Shut your mouth mr wordsmith.

    Dumbass

  46. OneLove Says:

@lightningbuc This whole team is a joke. We have no depth ANYWHERE and NO ONE can fix that in one year! The jokes on you if you think otherwise!

  47. "TheKevin" Says:

    @onelove

These people on here commenting are absolute stupid morons.

7 games and they want to fire everyone lol. These are the same dumbass losers that wanted shiano gone asap.

And then turn around and bitch that lovie hasn’t fixed that mess in 7 games.

Lmao I mean really. You can see the level of stupidity you have to contend with on here.

  48. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ dusthty rhothdes

Sure…..Lovie can be fired….by you perhaps…..by rastaman…….maybe…..even Joe could get in on it…..but.

THE GLAZERS WON”T……so suck it up, relax….watch the show….have a drink, snort something…..beat someone…..jump the White House fence if you like….because….LOVIE WILL BE HERE THREE YEARS MINIMUM

  49. Harry Says:

@Lightning, Feeling a little spunky today, huh? LOL

Its dreadful to think we might go thru another coaching change. Ridiculously embarrassing to this franchise.

However, the frightening thing about keeping Lovie is he has proven to me that he is NOT a good talent evaluator. Maybe some of our draft picks will turn out well, but his choice of FAs suck. If he stays in charge, he could set the franchise back for YEARS to come.

  50. Capt. Blighe Says:

Our O-line is the worst, hard to question the QB too much with this awful Pass protection. Glazers will never take this idiot Winston (good player but too dumb to get outta the rain) Mariotta will be a bust ! What is boils down too is we should of taken Johnny Football. Oh, and were screwed.

  51. OneLove Says:

    @”TheKevin”

I know exactly what your talking about bro, but that doesn’t mean we should give up and stop posting. We NEED to try and help these people. They NEED to be enlightened by any means necessary and that’s what were here for!

They do a pretty good job of sounding stupid on these forums(no one really gives a sh!t), but that doesn’t mean we should allow it to translate into real life conversations. If we get a chance to change someone’s way of thinking before they embarrass themselves in real life then we have done a GREAT SERVICE!

Don’t give up on the GOOD FIGHT! Hopefully it won’t be all for nothing!

  52. Nybucsfan Says:

I’m not sure lovie knows anything about Quarterbacks look at his past. But I think Glennon give us a great chance at a to pick in the draft

  53. "TheKevin" Says:

    Johnny football?

The little small qb who can’t beat out hoyer?

Lol yea we should have taken him lmao

  54. "TheKevin" Says:

    @onelove

    Lol great post. Love it.

    And soooooo true.

  55. mike h Says:

ya so they are paying another coach 5 mil a year to do nothing its evident they the players are not playing for him cuz he is a idiot. two weeks to get these guys ready to play the smelly vikes and another rookie qb . oh they looked fired up lol smith s.cks period!

  56. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ The Kevin

Hang in ther bud…..there are many of us who are realistic about the situation…..it doesn’t mean we like it….it doesn’t mean we are Lovie apologists….sure, he has made some mistakes….the main one he and Licht made was setting up unrealistifc expectations……a “win now” philosophy….he could have easily come in with a rebuild taking several years plan (now that’s what it looks like)

Do I like Glennon as our QB….no…..do I like Lovie right now as our coach…..no….do I like Licht as our GM…..not so far….but I like GMC, LVD, ME19, ASJ……I like what I saw with Patrick Murray….and I’m hoping I will like Sims.
Fans have to hang in there and we are powerless….that’s what is frustrating.

  57. DB55 Says:

Lol love the optimism but yesterday’s attendance shrunk by 6k fans from last week. So as stupid idiotic and ignorant as fan are they are smart enough to keep their money in their pockets. Bucs are following in the Rays footsteps by the time Lovies contract is up there may be no NFL football in Tampa.

  58. ForgotAboutDre Says:

It’s not so much that I like Lovie, it’s more that I have half a brain so I know you don’t fire a coach 8 games in. We’ve had a rocky start, but I think everybody over the age of twelve knows not to yell “FIRE THE COACH” halfway through the first bad season.

  59. mike h Says:

its called freedom of speech there people. how about stop blaming the past coach for the players lovie dovie the idiot! got rid of of them and brought in these clowns. nice D he has. great coach he is.

  60. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie’s decisions are made with what he has to work with. He did’nt exactly say Glennon is the starter for the rest of the season, just that he sees no need to change right now. Finally, a half definite support of MG spoken. That’s one of the smartest things you have said yet Lovie. He knows QB is a lesser problem than what surrounds MG. I think the QB of the present will also be the QB next year and I’m fine with that.

  61. mike h Says:

I agree about not doing it now but do not see dovie here to long! or I should say he shouldn’t be but its the glazers so were fu..ed !

“What does it hurt to get Incognito?”

Because football is entertainment. Incognito is a scumbag. I would be rooting for the other teams defensive linemen to knock him out cold. Scrw just win baby.
He’s a tool and I’d be hoping to see him get his more than I would be rooting for him.

One of the joys of the Dungy era was the players were class acts with the exception of Sapp. Brooks is just the best. Ronde, Lynch, Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstott…these were guys I loved having represent our fair city.

Incognito represents dirtbags not Tampa. If he was so super talented he wouldn’t be on the street right now. Who is Oakland starting at guard? Two guys named Jackson and Howard. If Richie the sleazebag bully had any talent somebody like Oakland would already have him on their roster.

  64. mike h Says:

pinhead lovie says qb plan doesn’t call for change. how about the coaching staff ! its not the qb that’s for sure.

  65. Buccfan37 Says:

“TheKevin”… I think you need to chill out dishing on fellow Buc fans. Opinions vary, calling those you disagree with dumb and stupid makes you look exactly that.

  66. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Sorry for this long post but REALLY. HOW FREAKING DESPERATE ARE Y0U PEOPLE? Richie Incognito? Here’s some highlights of his “career” beginning with his college days and Nebraska,

He began displaying the behavioral problems that would follow him throughout his career. During his second game, against Troy State, he was accused of spitting on a Troy State player. Two weeks later, he was ejected for picking a fight in a blowout loss to Penn State.[8] Per NCAA rules, he had to sit out the first half of the Huskers’ next game, against Iowa State.[7] In the second-to-last game of the season, against Colorado, he was flagged for a 15-yard personal foul penalty late in the game that largely contributed to the Huskers losing to the Buffaloes.
    ]
In the spring of 2003, Incognito got in a fight during practice and was suspended indefinitely by head coach Frank Solich. By this time, Solich and his staff were concerned enough about Incognito’s behavior to send him to the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas for anger management treatment.] Incognito was reinstated by the start of the season and started 13 games at left tackle. He was rewarded with a first-team All-Big 12 selection by the Associated Press.[7]

In February 2004, Incognito was involved in a fight at a party and was charged with three counts of assault. In June, he was found guilty on one of the misdemeanor assault charges and paid a $500 fine. Incognito was shifted to center during the 2004 preseason camp. He entered the season with high expectations, listed on a number of preseason lists as a top center and named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy going to the best center in college football.[9] On September 1, however, he was suspended indefinitely for repeated violations of team rules. The final straw for new coach Bill Callahan came when Incognito got into a fight in the locker room. Within a few weeks, Incognito withdrew from all classes at Nebraska and left Lincoln.

In late September, he transferred to the University of Oregon, only to be dismissed from the team a week later. Head coach Mike Bellotti said Incognito failed to meet the conditions he’d agreed to meet before his arrival in Eugene. Bellotti didn’t elaborate, but Incognito had been required to complete an anger-management course and adhere to a strict code of conduct.[1

Despite his impressive physical tools, ESPN Scouts Inc. noted “his inability to control his emotions both on and off the field is such a significant concern that he’ll likely slip to the later rounds of the draft.”[13]

    2007 season[edit]
Incognito played and started at right guard for four games after being inactive for the first four weeks of the season. In early November, Incognito suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the remainder of season.[14] However, while rehabilitating, it was later revealed that he had been partying nightly.
    2008 season[edit]

Incognito started 15 games at right guard for the Rams, also seeing some playing time at center. On October 17, Incognito was fined three times for a total of $35,000 after the game versus the Washington Redskins.[16] His violations during the game included the repeated verbal abuse of a game official, performing a “major face mask” penalty, and performing a chop block penalty. (which wasn’t called during the game.) Incognito’s behavior nearly lead to a loss after his antics cost the Rams 15 yards before the eventual game-winning field goal.

    2009 season[edit]
On April 17, 2009, the Rams offered Incognito a one-year tender worth $1.01 million, which he signed on May 3.[19] Incognito started all nine games in which he played for the Rams in 2009. On December 13, during the first half of a 47-7 loss to the Tennessee Titans, Incognito drew two 15-yard penalties for headbutting Titans players. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo benched him for the second half, and the two got into a heated confrontation on the sidelines. It was the second time Incognito had been benched for losing his composure; he’d been pulled from the season opener against Seattle for two personal fouls. However, the Titans incident was the last straw; the Rams waived him two days after the game.

    2012 season[edit]
During the Dolphins’ annual celebrity golf tournament at the Turnberry Isle Resort and Club in Aventura, Florida, a drunken Incognito harassed a female volunteer at the club. He rubbed her private parts with a golf club, pressed his private parts against her buttocks and dumped water in her face. The matter was referred to Dolphins security. Although former Dolphins wide receiver Nat Moore apologized to her, the volunteer filed a police report after Incognito didn’t personally apologize; the matter was later settled after she signed a confidentiality agreement. This incident didn’t come to public light until November 2013.[27] Dolphins coach Joe Philbin subsequently confirmed that the Dolphins were aware of the situation, and had taken “immediate action” in response; he didn’t elaborate.[28]

This comes from Wikipedia. Now in a post Ray Rice NFL how long do you people think this dirtbag would last before his first suspension…or should I say his first after reinstatement. Incognito makes Ray Rice and Greg Hardy look like choir boys. Geez give it up will you?

I’d rather fire the Glazers than Lovie. Ever since poor Malcolm got sick, (RIP) his sons have put this team into a nosedive and it has finally crashed into the ground. The personnel decisions? Horrible. Firing Gruden, promoting a position coach to HC, scaring Chip Kelly off and having to settle for a mediocre Rutgers coach, then hiring a new HC before the GM. And worst of all, approving the changing of pewter and red to a bunch of clown to further make our franchise a laughing stock.

Let Glennon finish out the year. He could still surprise us but it is doubtful on this team. I would like to see him operate in a respectable offense. A decent running game and protection is all he needs, this team has neither. That being said, Glennon just does not seem to have the “IT” factor. He does not seem to fire up and rally his teammates, but rather just does what he is told to. The QB should be the leader of the offense. I would be ok if the Bucs do not select a QB with their first pick, as long as they fix this atrocious offensive line and give Glennon (or any QB for that matter) a chance.

But the Bucs have a lot of cap room every year, and can likely fix the O-line better through FA. We need a leader on offense. Somebody who rallies his team and and fills them with confidence. That person is Jameis Winston. Say what you want about his character, he is a man on a mission on the gridiron. For all you ranting and raving and the great Marcus Mariota, his stats are widely cushioned by the fact Oregon has a cakewalk schedule year in and year out. When it comes to the big games, Mariota struggles. Last season he lost to a porous Arizona team and Stanford. Damn near lost to the mighty Oregon State Beavers. This season he lost to an unranked Arizona team again and the Stanford game is this week. He cannot beat competitive teams, imagine him against an NFL team. Winston, however, has never lost a game, including the national championship.

Kafka has been waived. Playoffs are definitely happening now.

  69. SteveK Says:

    The Kevin,

Firing coach Smith wouldn’t do any good. We are inept because of the rock star, and changing coaches too frequently.

We need to see some skrt of improvement.

  70. lightningbuc Says:

    StPeteBucsFan,

Just checked Wikipedia. Seems you forgot something.

“Incognito made his first Pro Bowl appearance after the 2012 season”

  71. mike h Says:

bucs fan37. I agree. were just pissed off and with good reason. I personally never liked this hire of smith to begin with. there is a reason the bears canned him with 10-6 record. and now this. he is not a motivator this team is all f..ked up! and it should lie on him period!

  72. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I have a question on Shiano’s talent evaluation. Who exactly did he hit on that is helping us this year or any other NFL team for that matter?

  73. lightningbuc Says:

    FatAntonio,

    Lavonte David ring a bell.

  74. The Buc Realist Says:

I think Joe is just waiting until Johnny football has a 3 touchdown game, so he can finally stand up and tell everyone “told you so”!

Don’t be silly. Joe was also all in favor of drafting Bridgewater. Did you hear Joe utter any kind of “told you so” after he led a comeback to beat the Bucs? Of course not. Joe doesn’t care. Yes, the Bucs would have been wise to make the move to a rookie this past offseason. –Joe

  75. mike h Says:

mike glennon! our only win v jax is better than a lot of receivers in the nfl

  76. WalkdaPlank Says:

When it comes to the rest of the team, I expect an overhaul this offseason. Trades and releases will be plentiful. We need to stock up on salary cap and draft picks to TRY and fix this team. There are so many holes, it will probably take more than one more season to repair. The only people worth keeping on this team IMO are GMC, LVD, Glennon, Evans, Banks, ASJ, Lansanah, maybe Dotson. Everyone else is so bad or mediocre they could be replaced easily, but I don’t expect everyone to wash out, we don’t have the resources to replace them all. I like Rainey, Tandy, Spence, and Murphy as backups. And Glennon if we go QB. I suspect they will retain Verner, Barron, Martin, and unfortunately Johnson and Collins as well no matter how sub-par their play has been. If Vjax isn’t traded they will keep him too, but I believe they will sooner or later. Goldson, Koenen, Johnson and Collins need to go, they play too terribly for their high salaries, but like I said they will probably keep Johnson and Collins because Lovie is too damn stubborn after just signing them.

With our picks and money we need to go after OL, DE, DB, WR, P, returner (can’t believe we passed up McCluster and Hester), and QB if a good one is available. Maybe MLB if Foster doesn’t improve. Also need to take a look at lapdog Licht. It is clear Lovie has final say. We need a real GM to keep him in check so he does not make stupid decisions like cutting our best DB, railroading our O-line, and signing glorified backups like Johnson and Collins to huge contracts.

  77. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yea….but how about our new younger, cheaper Kicker…….there’s hope yet!!!

Hope and change along with blaming your predecessor…..sound familiar?

  78. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Lightning

Really? So you don’t mind a cancer who couldn’t stay on the field long enough to win a pro bowl until 2012?

He abuses women, and men. He’s a bully and a true dirtbag. I don’t care if he is the best player in the NFL…and again I don’t care if he was playing for the Bucs I’d be rooting for him to get his clock cleaned every single play.

Look at the bold highlights. Geez you’d guys sign Saddam Hussein if he was alive and could block. Do you have no morals or ethics?

  79. WalkdaPlank Says:

Oh, yeah and a new OC and DC.

  80. Skyline Crew Says:

Hahahahaha…Mariotta plays a cakewalk schedule? Hahaha…then what does Winston play? A cupcake schedule because the ACC is terrible.

  81. WalkdaPlank Says:

Winston plays about as many competitive teams as Mariota. This season he has played Clemson and Norte Dame ( both in the top 25). Difference? Winston actually WINS these games. Oh yeah, and he won a national championship.

  82. foghead407 Says:

Its so funny that this even matters both qbs stink and joe lip flops his opinions more than a breakfast joint flipping pancakes. “Glennon is just a backup” “now hes the future” “nw im the general of the mob” “now i want to draft a qb in the first round” get it together joe

  83. dusthty rhothdes Says:

FIRE LOVIE….1-15 deserves to be fired and blow the whole thing up, give me one thing positve lovie has done since january….he got lucky that pitt and tomlin called off the dogs on their boy lovie and it bit tomlin in the ass in the last 7 seconds and bucs should be winless……same team that had seahawks down by 20 at home…..he has screwed this team into a deep hole

  84. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Cmon Nole fans. Jamarcus Russell went 21-4 in his career and was MVP of the Sugar Bowl.

Vince Young knocked off the defending National Champs and finished with his own title..coincidentally winning against USC and Reggie Bush the guy who beat him out for the Heisman.

There are NO LOCKS in the draft. But there will be one boneheaded, immature idiot Jamarcus…er Vince…er Jameis Winston.

    Everybody can make a mistake..or two..or three..or four..when does it stop?

  85. WalkdaPlank Says:

    StPete

Yeah nobody is a lock, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a chance on them. Would you like us to draft nobody? Hell, Andrew Luck wasn’t a lock, did that stop the Colts from drafting him? Cam Newton, with all his attitude and off-field problems, he led his team to a title and won the Heisman just like Jameis. Didn’t stop the Panthers from taking him 1st overall

  86. lightningbuc Says:

Yeah nobody is a lock, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a chance on them. Would you like us to draft nobody?

Sorry for this long post but REALLY. HOW FREAKING DESPERATE ARE Y0U PEOPLE? Richie Incognito? Here’s some highlights of his “career” beginning with his college days and Nebraska,……….
    …….

He’s changed …. for real this time.

  90. David Says:

@lighteningbuc…seriously??? He did community service for the shoplifting charge. Also if you read reports you would see the girl took a ride home from Mr. Winston the night of the alleged rape. Plus she had three different strands of DNA in her panties when the test was done. Sounds like rape to me fellas. Any of us who has been to college know about barracks/dorm rats who smash any guy they get attention from. And why do people keep bringing up Freeman? I mean he does hold the franchise record in TD passes. The guy wasn’t all bad.

  91. Buc1987 Says:

This team has no business winning for the rest of 2014. Winning games is not in this teams best interest.

I only care about this team. So just draft Jameis.

    J E T S jets jets jets…Go Raiders!

  92. WalkdaPlank Says:

Better question is how do you drive your team down the field on your last drive of the game, throw a go ahead TD in the final moments, and still have people whining about you? Instead of your defense that choked up a late lead against a rookie backup or the TE that you completed a pass to only to be fumbled to lose the game?

I get it. Glennon was less than stellar against Minny, but when the game was on the line, and his team was down by more than 3 points, he put them on his back and led them down the field and scored a TD. You wanna argue about he should have been better earlier, fine. But dont sit there and continue to cry about him after he just put the team in position to win and was rewarded with crappy defense and poor ball security.

If we are in position to take a QB better than Glennon, I’m all for it. But people’s opinions vary about who that my be around these parts. Which is fine by me, but apparently not by others. 😉

  93. Buc1987 Says:

This team is calling plays to lose….it’s called tanking the season fellas. The players aren’t tanking it. The coaches are.

Yes..yes I tell you no lies. Yes. Pro coaches are not this inept.

Winston is out there and they know it!

  94. Andrew 1 Says:

I swear, if I hear Winston being compared to JeMarcus Russell one more time I’m going to freakin lose it. WINSTON IS TWICE THE PASSER THAT JEMARCUS WILL EVER BE!!!

  95. Andrew 1 Says:

Anyone who’s not literally blind and has watched football for any length of time can see that.

  96. Shianowasaninsidejob Says:

And here I was about to go found the Mike Kafka mob

  97. Andrew 1 Says:

And Lovie isn’t going anywhere. You don’t think that was one of the first thing’s Lovie’s agent brought up to the Glazer’s when they were trying to hire him? He saw how quick they pulled the hook on Schiano, Why wouldn’t he cover his rear end by demanding the Glazer’s give him at least a couple of years before he signed on the dotted line? C’mon dammit think people! He’s not going anywhere! and for the sake of staring aaaallll over again, I say good.

  98. Joe Says:

Any coach, not just Lovie. With any team, not just the Bucs.

Glazers have shown a willingness to eat contracts. They did it with Chucky and did it with Schiano.

FYI, Lovie signed a four-year pact with a team option for a fifth.

  99. Hemlock Says:

    StPeteBucsFan

Old saying:”takes one to call one”! Don’t look in the mirror to long.

  100. Rob in Orlando Says:

Stop feeding me a turd and telling me it’s steak. For the first time since 1980, I chose to go speck fishing rather than stay home and watch the next futile attempt of my beloved Bucs. I did sneak peaks with my Iphone as the game wound down and even predicted a blunder to find a way to lose after giving up the lead in regulation. Lovie needs to admit this is in fact a rebuilding year. I do not have a problem with losing a bunch of games as we learn and get better. We absolutely should have won against the Panthers, the Rams, the Saints, and the Vikings. Because of sloppy penalties, inconsistent effort and inproper execution, missed interceptions, fumbles, lack of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, horrific predictable play calling on offense and defense, we are now once again the laughing stock of the NFL. Find out who can play and make plays and rebuild your offensive line and obtain a game changing pass rusher (whatever the cost I don’t care) or you will hear crickets at Raymond James. The awful product the Glazers are feeding us must improve now. Thank goodness we have a competitive Lightning team. Go Bucs!

  101. Nybucsfan Says:

Colt McCoy went 25-30 for 299 lol how about mike Glennon lol. That’s a third string player on a bad team playing better than Glennon all year. Glennon has never been 25-30 in his life

  102. Skyline Crew Says:

Nybucsfan, I know right. Glennon could only dream that he had that long to throw a ball.

  103. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @ Nybucsfan

…and Kirk Cousins was better than Glennon, and Ryan Mallet was better, and Josh McCown was better. Now Colt McCoy…are you seeing the pattern here of fans insisting every QB that has one or two good games before floundering horribly is somehow viewed as being better than Glennon? I’ll let you in on something you should realize (probably) not being in Tampa…most fans, analysts, and reporters outside of Tampa think Glennon is actually a talented QB with a lot of upside for his age.

  104. DB55 Says:

    Skyline + Toes

Haters gonna hate. That’s why I truly wish glennon would ask for a trade. F*ck the b*llsh*t let the bucs play with McCown see how well that goes.

  105. #1 bucs fan Says:

Glennon is the future he just needs his coaching staff to believe in him. And put him in a better situation to be successful. No QB could perform
at a high level without a chance to succeed. It starts with the front line that hasn’t been solid for years.

  106. BuccDeez Says:

Glennon is ok but NOT the future. He folds under pressure, has a Big arm, sees the field but doesn’t have killer instincts & that’s what u can’t teach. I still like him he deserves a shot. Moving on . Trade banks, Dotson probably could stay but it might be reaching. Keep C Sims & B Rainey . If we picked up Suh in the FA market that would make M Johnson better, L David and M Foster if switched to rolb flats and run games would be better covered. We need a Mlb but those are like folk tales to us. That position is so Major to us in the scheme we use on D! We can adress the safety positions in the draft. That leaves us with OTL & OG gotta draft them early for the next 2seasons . Last , First, Middle we need a QB! First round and get the guy all help he needs.
