Mike Evans Involved In Nightclub Hassle

Video surfaces of Bucs WR Mike Evans in a hassle outside a nightclub.

[UPDATEPer Greg Auman ot the Tampa Bay Times, this incident happened in March. The TMZ story incorrectly dates the incident Saturday night in Miami. The Bucs played the Dolphins Saturday night in Tampa.]

Video has surfaced of Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans getting into a throwdown outside a Miami nightclub in March. The incident happened before he was drafted.

Evans is seen arguing with a group of people outside a nightclub when chaos erupts. The video, obtained by TMZ.com, shows Evans jumping over a car and swinging. It looked more like a baseball “brawl” than anything else. There is more shoving and yelling than punches landed.

All the details are wrapped up in the TMZ.com report.

It all went down outside Dream Nightclub … where the #7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft was screaming at bouncers. We’re told Evans had been partying inside the club moments before the video begins. While Evans — who just turned 21 yesterday — unloads on the staff, a person who appears to be in Mike’s entourage throws a punch at a bouncer … and that’s when all hell breaks loose. During the melee, Mike gets knocked out of frame … but comes running back into the center of the madness … throwing a haymaker.

To be perfectly clear, since Evans has been draft, to the best of Joe’s knowledge, he has been a model member of the Bucs. Joe has yet to hear an ill word about Evans and every dealing with Evans has been very professional.

He always did come off as thuggish and not very bright. Man Mike Williams being ousted for no reason was so unnecessary. He never did anything like this.

  2. JWBucs Says:

    Ahhhhh Here we go

  3. OAR Says:

I’m supposed to wear a shell but I don’t….Slug Life!

  4. stevek Says:

    Trade him to Buffalo!

  5. Jim Says:

What the hell is he doing in Miami when he should be in Tampa learning the play book?

  6. Dimitrios Says:

funny how the cop starts walking away.. glad our wr isnt a sissy though… lets see that tenacity translate on the football field

  7. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Dimitrios,

I was thinking the exact same thing. The policeman did just about the worst effort possible to diffuse the fight at the beginning, then when it starts, he calmly walks away. Doesn’t even look like he calls for backup.

  8. OB Says:

    Joe

Unless this happened yesterday, he was underage to be admitted to drink. I believe that VJax, GMC, Josh, and Lovie will tell him now that he is 21 and in the NFL to wise up. I know that we all remember getting our first millions before we were 21 and what we did.

  9. kevin Says:

Who cares he is 21….most kids his age are involved in something like this at some point or another. Hopefully he matures and learns from his and others mistakes. Lets no forget he is young and it could have been something much worse.

  10. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

21 years old with a little daughter. And who was taking care of her while all this was going on?

  11. Architek Says:

Man – can we please get a WR that doesn’t want to rap or fight in the club????

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Anyway we can pin this on Manziel? Anyways goddamn it Mike, lesson number 1 for athletes and going out: Nothing good happens after midnight. Hopefully you learned it Mike.

  13. AfroBuc Says:

    Welp.

C’mon Mike, this is not how to be a pro. Save that aggression for the field.

But did you see how easily he leapfrogged that car? Watch at :38 in the video.

  14. RCH Says:

Hope he is thankful for not being arrested for something stupid and that he learns from this experience.

  15. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“21 years old with a little daughter. And who was taking care of her while all this was going on?”

    —–

I’ve read about these people called babysitters, although I can’t confirm they really do exist. I’ve also heard that when you have children, you are still able to do other things.

  16. Hawaiian Buc Says:

His agent is saying the incident happened in March. That makes a lot more sense, because TMZ is saying it happened last Saturday after the Dolphins game. Problem is, the game was in Tampa.

  17. Jon Says:

Classic. Just another questionable offseason move. Don’t make excuses for him, he should know better. Sorry but with the rules and this commissioner you need to stand down. Looks to me he had a chance but didn’t. Bet the Bucs didn’t know about this…what again was the good offseason move made this year? Quantity instead of quality…

  18. jo_mama Says:

I guess our Church going Coach is going to ship him off for a 5th round draft pick.

Last I checked Incognito never shoved aside a police officer while trying to punch out a bouncer while in the NFL.

Bring in Incognito and have he treat evans how to behave.

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I spent some time in a club or two when I was 21. Problem for me is I had to save up to be able to afford a few drinks. I can only imagine the potential trouble I could have gotten in had I been a millionaire. Dangerous combination, and I’m actually surprised this doesn’t happen more often.

  20. dizzle Says:

those moves tho lol quick on his feet and the leap over the car! Awww man haha I see rookie of the year in his future!!!

  21. INDYbucsfan Says:

Too bad evans didn’t lay the bouncer out then head butt the other one then jump on top of a car and screaming TAMPA…BAY. Would’ve been way cooler.

  22. J Says:

The article states it happened BEFORE he was drafted. Learn how to read carefully before going nuts.

  23. D-Rome Says:

Fortunately this didn’t end in a shooting like some nightclub brawls do.

  24. jo_mama Says:

Watch 25 seconds in. The cop with the glasses on.

He turns and walks away. What a classic Miami cop.

Mike Evans has some mad doge balls skills. If you can dodge a bouncer you can dodge a ball.

  25. Joe Says:

Incident happened in March, before he was drafted by the Bucs.

  26. Regulator Says:

Old vid before he was a Buc. Had a game in Tampa same night…club was in Miami? I don’t think he left Tampa just to drive 3-4hrs to a club.

  27. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“The article states it happened BEFORE he was drafted. Learn how to read carefully before going nuts.”

    ——

Actually, the article says it happened on Saturday. Literally while I was typing this response, TMZ updated it, taking out when it happened. So we actually did read it carefully, FYI.

  28. Gus Says:

Some of you have been exposed in these comments. It happened in March. He was trying to get his girl from the club and got into with the bouncer. Old news.

  29. J Says:

Video has surfaced of Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans getting into a throwdown outside a Miami nightclub in March. The incident happened before he was drafted.

  30. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Joe,

Since it happened before we drafted him, where does it fall within the personal conduct rules? I know he won’t be suspended regardless, but would it still count as a first incident?

  31. J Says:

@hawaiian Buc, FYI I re-posted what Joe posted. Have a fantastic weekend!

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @J,

Perhaps you didn’t understand me the first time. They just changed it to say that. You can deny that all you want, but it’s the truth. It’s not hard to prove, but you seem to insist that we are all making it up. Good for you.

  33. Gus Says:

And when I say exposed I mean how quickly you guys label him a thug and want him out of town

  34. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @J,

My bad for the sarcastic remark. Didn’t see your post yet.

  35. Joe Says:

Since it happened before we drafted him, where does it fall within the personal conduct rules? I know he won’t be suspended regardless, but would it still count as a first incident?

Not sure it does. He wasn’t in the NFL then.

  36. Gus Says:

J it was an update. The original article had last weekend

  37. Johnny Dejay Says:

Prepare his bust for the Bucs Hall of Shame for blown draft picks.

  38. Architek Says:

At 21, I was in the club but I was working on post game activity!

Not “tearing up the club” or fighting bouncers.

    This will pass over.

  39. DallasBuc Says:

Hawaiian- it did say Saturday. I still have it up on my screen.

  40. BUC4LIFE79 Says:

Happened b4 he was drafted, and b4 he was a Buc, what’s he done since becoming a Buc???? Exactly. Who cares about this other than those sounding off here that obviously have no life?? Let he who is without sin or error cast the first stone.

  41. DallasBuc Says:

Is it any less thuggish that it happened in March?

  42. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

I see nothing wrong here. Looked to me that the bouncer threw the first punch to one of Mike’s friends. Then his entourage all come to the rescue. How can you guys even get on Mike for this? You see him backing away toward the end, even running away from a dude and jumping over a porsche. Which one of you at 21 years old would stand by like a little bitch when your friend is getting jumped? This isn’t even a story imo.

  43. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Is it any less thuggish that it happened in March?”

    —–

I’m really curious, have you ever been in a fight before? If so, does that make you a thug? If you see two white guys fighting in a bar, do you call them thugs? When I was a teenager, my dad got into a fight in a McDonald’s. Does that make him a thug? When I think of thug, it would take a lot more than an incident like this to qualify.

  44. The Ether Says:

If this was really in March… this is a non-issue. He wasnt a Buc… He was still a 20 year old college kid… And he only got heated when the dude put his hands on him… And I can’t really blame him.

Im just impressed at how he cleared that car… He’s gonna run through DBs all season!

Bottom line, its a non issue… Just some more BSPN filler before the season starts… Besides, Ive seen worse brawls in little league baseball than that… GTFOutta here…

  45. knucknbuc Says:

O like no one here has ever gotten into a lil minor scrum like this in their early 20s outside of a bar. some of y’all fans are just so ready to condemn ppl. It’s like a player can’t actually have a life outside of football. It’s a minor incident no charges pressed no one injured or hurt.wtf am I missing here???

  46. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @FIRETHECANNONS,

Because a lot of people on this site are perfect, and love to cast judgement on others. We’ve got people calling him a thug, saying he should be cut, and questioning his parenting skills. People just love to be negative, and crucify people for every mistake.

Yes, Mike made a mistake here, for even being involved. I don’t know the circumstances, but he certainly wasn’t the only guilty party here. I also know that if your friend is getting pummeled by a bunch of huge bouncers, you better come to his aid. He’s at fault for being there in the first place, but the fight itself, I’m not so sure.

  47. deminion Says:

O well he wasn’t a buc at least he ain’t get a drug charge or domestic just a scuffle… and HE WASN’T A BUC THEN

  48. The Ether Says:

    All of this ‘thuggish’ talk?

So when we see brawls, (way worse than this), in the NHL, theyre thuggish too? I love the Bay, and I love my Bucs, but good god mohammed dam there are some ignorant people in these parts.

  49. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Like, I told me sons when they started going out heavy years ago. Be prepared at times you will be tested. Glad no one go hurt…The funny part though is the girl in background yelling “DONT RUN, DON’T RUN”..smh..lol

    BS Bottle Service

  50. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    *Glad no one was hurt…

  51. Joe Says:

Is it any less thuggish that it happened in March?

    No. Video doesn’t lie.

But to be perfectly clear: Evans has been nothing but polite, cooperative and professional every time Joe has dealt with him, including when Joe interviewed him at the combine. Joe has heard no whispers at all at One Buc that Evans is a bad apple. That’s why this video is surprising.

  52. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    -Hawaiian Buc

“Because a lot of people on this site are perfect, and love to cast judgement on others. We’ve got people calling him a thug, saying he should be cut, and questioning his parenting skills. People just love to be negative, and crucify people for every mistake.”

    Well said brotha

  53. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Wow, no 20 year old football player has ever been involved in a fight! He must be a thug!!! The humanity!!!! All football players are angels I tell you!

  54. Tackleblockwin Says:

    Mike “one year wonder” Clayton

    Mike “house party” Williams

    Mike “nightclub brawler” Evans

Just kidding here though. I think Evans will be fine.

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

“I also know that if your friend is getting pummeled by a bunch of huge bouncers, you better come to his aid.”

The same can be said if someone is trying harm a family member-Like your sister. O’ my bad isn’t that what Talib was trying to do.

  56. Architek Says:

I dont see any reason to crucify the kid – at least he was not 2 hours removed from getting high before a game and riding in the car with the Tip Toe burglar…

  57. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @LUVMYBUCS,

I know you probably weren’t directing that comment at me,but that’s exactly what I was saying when the incident with Talib happened. I had no problem with him beating the hell out of that idiot.

  58. KMAC1322 Says:

Wow some of these comments are hilarious!! What a bunch of douche bags on here! Guy gets in a fight before he was even drafted and here comes all the “horrible draft pick, here we go again, drop him etc etc….C’mon really!!???

  59. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You really just don’t know what transpired before the camera started recording. We don’t know what the bouncers said or did. Bouncers aren’t always the greatest people in the world either. I know that every man has a breaking point, if he’s pushed hard enough. If you mess with my kids or family, there would be no controlling me. We don’t know why he was so upset, but I see nothing in that video that leads me to label him a thug. Now if it happens again, then we may have a problem.

  60. The Ether Says:

“The same can be said if someone is trying harm a family member-Like your sister. O’ my bad isn’t that what Talib was trying to do.”

Seriously… Unless you have a little sister/daughter, tell me you wouldnt get all ‘Sonny Corleone’ or pistol whip a dude like ‘Henry Hill’.

And if Mike was really just trying to get to his girl, and his emotions are that high, of course you’re gonna get heated..

Nah, brotha I was agreeing with you. And remembering how everyone jumped on Talib concerning his sister. I’ve told my told my sons over and over again. Someone puts hands on your sister-” YOU KNOCK THEIR BLOCK OFF.”

  67. The_Buc_Realist Says:

If this had happened in some other place AFTER the Buds Ota’s or after the NFL Rookie Symposium, I would have been upset. But this happenened in Miami. I have been to Miami and that is what you do there! You throw hands! In fact, after watching the video, it was a quite night in Miami!

  68. Boomer33 Says:

Thanks for the update on flight schedules to Miami, Christopher. Now tell us what the heck that has to do with this story since it happened last March?

  69. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

It’s nothing to be proud of, but, I’m not losing sleep over it either.

  71. FanOfBucs Says:

This is the first step to knowing he might be a really good nfl wr. They all crazy

  72. Dewey Selmon Says:

It’s all good. The cop walked way. Nobody blocked Evans from getting back to his vehicle, and cooler heads prevailed.

  73. Dreambig Says:

Throwing punches at bouncers who are throwing you out because your breaking the law is not acceptable behavior no matter what age you are. If your in the wrong, walk away and try your luck at the next club. That’s how you stay out of jail and off of TMZ. Buc Fan Prayer: Lord please help our #1 draft pick to grow into a real man quickly, a man who has an exemplar work ethic, a man who looses sleep over being the best, not one who looses sleep from too many hours in the club. Please let him emulate class acts like Jerry Rice, Art Monk, or Walter Payton. Please,Please, please don’t let him be like TO, Ochocinco, or a slug like Michael Clayton. Please let him be a real man, humble, intelligent, competitive and deadly on the field!

Any reason not to get Incognito now would be hypocrisy.

  76. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @paul,

Oh boy, you are not thinking clearly. Comparing this to Incognito is apples to oranges. Incognito has proven to be a locker room cancer everywhere he has gone. Been basically kicked off of every team he’s ever been on. This is an off the field, before even being drafted, altercation. Besides, Evans is a high first round pick. Incognito would be a veteran minimum player. Even though this is so difficult for some people to wrap their heads around, the two are not equal. Equal rights do not, and should not, apply. Evans is a 21 year old rookie, Incognito is a 32 year old roid head. But yeah, let’s play the hypocrite card.

You must be new to the Tampa Bay area. The FAN’S of the bay area are known not to be so brite around professional sports.

  78. brett Says:

wow! a 21 year old getting in a hassle outside a nightclub.BREAKING NEWS. this situation occurred months ago before evans was even on our team. I’m sure the bucs already knew about it then and if not then , then surely by draft day. another non-story brought to you by our local media who get off on stirring up s**t and misrepresenting the truth and always looking for negative things to report. funny how this story didn’t get talked about until just before the season started. what timing ,huh. this is why I don’t read the local papers or magazines anymore. get a life mr. news writer.

  79. RichBucsfan Says:

Was he arrested? No. What’s the issue then? Also, I know a certain radio talk show host that I doubt the kid will ever spend time with. Why do some people rejoice when others stumble? Strange characteristic of human nature. Same host swore that the situation happened on Saturday night and used TMZ as sole source. No confirmation with One Buc at all. Bad decision. And, now I know it’s 10 minutes from One Buc to TIA and by private jet it will take an hour and a half to Miami and South Beach right over the bridge. Wow! Someone needs to become a travel agent. Sad, sad, sad sack of a show host. Get your facts before you try to throw crap on a person.

  80. BucsFanFromSaintsLand Says:

Thank you Hawaiian Buc…thank you! Very well said. There is nothing more I need to add to that.

  81. Buccfan37 Says:

Nobody really knows what the Bucs have in Mike Evans as far as character and temperament. 21 is very young and immaturity is likely a factor.

  82. Incognito Says:

  83. Uncle Albert Says:

Off the field…maybe jaiil & lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Look closer. Mike walked away, and then the “thuggish” bouncer charged forward to attack someone Mike knew. The Bouncer was at fault.

And it looked to me like the person he attacked was a woman.

  92. BKNYfootballhead Says:

This thread is a riot. Lots of cooties going ’round. I love JBF.

  93. Colin Says:

We dont know what happened. Police were standing right next to him and he was not arrested.

  94. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Gilmore told the Tribune that Evans was allowed in as a guest of the club because he was underage at the time, that his client wasn’t drinking and did not have the necessary wristband needed to have access to areas of the club where drinking was allowed.

Evans was trying to regain access to the VIP area after using a bathroom — he wanted to get his girlfriend to leave with him — but didn’t have his wristband and was asked to leave, Gilmore said.

  95. dreambig Says:

Bonzai, Evans is clearly upset, yelling at the bouncers and is part of the situation escalating, when the fight breaks out, one of Evans friends in a red shirt is moving towards the bouncers, you cant really see what happens to start the fight but bottom line, Evans is under age, at a place of business, and ends up being engaged in a confrontation and consequently is responsible for his role in the whole mess. Its clearly his fault for being somewhere he had no place being in the first place. If I am his Dad, I am holding him accountable and kicking his but! I don’t care if he is 20. You go somewhere you shouldn’t be and then blame the club staff when S*it breaks out? That makes no sense. Having said all of that, it has nothing to do with the here and now, nor does it have anything to do with the Bucs. It was a dumbass kid thing to be involved in, S*it happens.

  96. Andrew 1 Says:

Meh, not a big deal really. So he got into a mild confrontation. The “fight” was so miniscule, that if it wasn’t on camera, you never would have even heard about it. You people acting like this is a big deal, stop being hypocrites. You’re telling me that none of you did anything like this when you were 20, or worse? I know I did. Not proud to admit that, but EVERYBODY has a story to tell from when they were that age. Just apart of growing up.

And as time passes and he absorbs less of that pos influence the Joe’s love to brag about aka Johnny football and more of guys like Vincent Jackson, you’ll see this guy mature. Just think of it this way, compared to Johnny Manziel’s wrongdoings, this is absolutely nothing.

  97. Dimitrios Says:

i cant sense whether this is sarcasm by you old farts pegging for this guy to get traded or na.. the dude has every right to voice his displeasure with an establishment and if the officer feels its ok enough to walk away and not get involved, well, then there should be no punishment for practically holding your ground and almost jumping in to help a friend from getting jumped… i just hope we see that fire in him terrorizing that suspect carolina secondary

  98. Adrian Says:

Lol at the lady that yells “don’t run!” Too funny!

  99. Khedric Says:

A lot of people using racial code “thug” in here. This happened in MARCH!!!! BEFORE THE KID WAS EVEN DRAFTED!!! If the Bucs were concerned about his character the team wouldn’t of drafted him. He made a mistake, let’s move on.

  100. Joe Says:

Any reason not to get Incognito now would be hypocrisy.

To compare Evans and Incognito is beyond asinine.

  101. Rex Says:

What happened to him being a boring guy! That’s why I wasn’t worried about this! But you never know, the guy could’ve provoked him and tried to get him started. There’s a reason behind everything. I still love my 7th pick.

  102. Rex Says:

Yes! Thank you! Someone making some sense! @khedric

  103. Paul Says:
