“I’ve Been Given A Platform”

June 23rd, 2014

Mccoy2014Bucs manbeast defensive tackle Gerald McCoy doesn’t want to talk about his looming new contract, even if Jason Licht is.

McCoy is all about team, though that’s just one aspect of his life.

McCoy also is all about helping kids. Whether its giving time for the Team Glazer local eyeglasses charity, or buying marching band uniforms and more, McCoy seems to happy and eager to give.

No. 93 was at it again last week. After Bucs minicamp broke he headed back to his hometown to host a kids camp. Joe looked a little deeper and it appears it was free for the children involved.

Enjoy the video. McCoy explains he believes he’s been given a platform to help others.

Remember when rumors went around stating Bucs were interested in Aaron Donald for DT. Then McCoy went on to say he’s never switching to NT… then “Fans” called him out for being selfish and not a team player…. Yeah that stupid argument existed towards McCoy.

    McCoy is a role model.

Now it’d be great if stories like these got as much ink as all the negative stories.. But the negative stories generate page hits and clicks/comments(not saying you operate that way Joe.. Media in general).

  3. Harry Says:

What a blessing it is to have this class act on the Bucs. Can’t wait to see him continue to develop and get better. Go Bucs!

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

Gerald understands it’s all about “giving back” or paying it forward, if you will.

Just think of how many children Michael Jordan could have helped with the millions he’s dropped in Vegas.

  5. Kevin Says:

We are lucky to have a guy like this in our community, a team leader and great player. Thank you Gerald!!!

  6. SteveK Says:

Sign his ass to a fat contract.

Send a message and pay him before Suh.

While more physically gifted, Suh has half the brain and heart of Gerald.

  8. Back, from Davie Jones Locker Says:

    God Bless Gerald McCoy
What a fantastic talent, and tremendous Person he is.
There is a young man, that you feel good about your children looking up to!
Gives you hope. So many of his contemporaries are making such selfish and self destructive decisions.
Everything you hear about Mr. McCoy is positive.
Well on his way to being one of the greatest all time Bucs
Glad Tampa is (finally)showing him the love he deserves!

Ahh what a difference two years can make. I remember on this site so many fans calling him a bust. He is now the leader of this team and arguably the best 3 technique in the league. Couldn’t be happier
for the guy, he is a great ffootball player and a better man. I love rooting for this guy and I hope this is a player whose jersey I can wear for more than 4 years.

You can imagine how hard it is to remain objective when your juggling your future earnings and trying to be a team player. You’re excited on one hand cause ya gonna get paid but you don’t want to gloat and give the impression that it’s only about the benjamins. Gerald’s a stand-up dude, and maybe he’ll give us a hometown discount, but don’t count on it. Because in the end, it is business, and these opportunities are never guaranteed. Not For Long

  11. Tiny Tim Says:

Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David. Who is the most humble/generous/gracious/true definition of a role model etc.? Who will take the mantle from the late great Leroy Selmon and Derrick Brooks as the next in line to demonstrate what a buccaneer man truly represent both on and off the field? Right now McCoy is leading but I feel King David will be closing the gap once he signs his big contract allowing him to do things for the kids/community like McCoy. Better times ahead buc fans!!! Better times ahead indeed.

  12. Vincente Says:

Your blessed to bless. This is awesome. Keep doing what you do 93!

  13. Swaggy64 Says:

Glad to hear that the Bucs have a player due for a huge raise who not only actually deserves it, but will spread the wealth around a bit. The man’s a class act (who,is, ironically, not acting) who deserves to have 25 sacks this year. I wish there was really more to Karma than there seems to be, because this young man is stockpiling the good kind. He’s filling the off-the-field good PR gap since Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn are retired. I only wish the football gods rewarded nice guys like him on the field. If they did the entire Tampa Bay community would benefit.

  14. owlykat Says:

McCoy will have the production of Sapp, and be in the Hall of Fame, but even more important, he will have the stature of another Hall of Fame Buc, who also played for Oklahoma, Leroy Selmon. We have to keep him for the rest of his career–make him the top paid DT in the NFL on a very long term contract!

Thanks Charles! Appreciate the kind words.

“Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

    Luke 12:48

Gerald McCoy is a delight because in an age of total hypocrites McCoy walks the walk and doesn’t just talk the talk.

I truly respect everybody’s religious beliefs, as long as they practice what they preach.

When Gerald first arrived in town and I heard all that proselytizing on his radio show I was a little put off. But then I saw his actions back up his words and my respect has only grown. His parents did an wonderful jobs of raising a truly classy man.

  17. MadMax Says:

My man McCoy! Glad we have one of the top DT’s with him. With Johnson and Gholston, he should have a breakout year! Theres a reason Lovie sent the message he believes in this D by going all offense in the draft, and McCoy is a big part of it.
