Schiano “Surprised” At Sloppy Tackling

There’s not a lot of good to take out of the seal-clubbing the Stinking Panthers performed on the Bucs Sunday. On the flip side, there is plenty to learn from and correct.
And Bucs commander Greg Schiano was stunned by one of those elements. Schiano prides himself in his teaching of fundamentals, defensive fundamentals more than anything. Yet, those treasured skills vanished against the Stinking Panthers.
In particular, it was sloppy tackling — or non-tackling — by the Bucs defenders.
This shook Schiano to his core.
“I was surprised, I didn’t see that coming,” Schiano said Monday. “I thought we’ve tackled very well for the majority of this season. I think it was the highest missed tackle total that we’ve had. We got to really get back to basics in that because that’s what tackling is, it’s fundamentals and it’s want-to and our guys play incredibly hard. It’s just one of those days.”
Hopefully, it was one “just one of those days.” Joe knows that Schiano stresses tackling in every practice. Shoot, in training camp, the Bucs seem to work on tackling almost as any other element of the game.
Yet, the sloppy tackling reared its Raheem Morris head Sunday.
Could it be that the Stinking Panthers were just so physical, that they got into the heads of the Bucs’ defense?

Where are we compared with the rest of the league in missed tackles? Seems like we have had this discussion at least one other time this season. Who from the Bucs is leading the missed tackles parade?

Players are watching out for themselves now.
Panthers game plan was conservative and poor. Subsequently, they beat us like little b!tches.

Joe, I think their problems are coaching and playing players that are hurt. Having Revis play Sunday was not smart. Play calling on both sides of the ball is not good. Stunts leave open lanes and open receivers on defense, add in hurt in the legs DBs and it does not work.
Offensive callings is bad, and why don’t our receivers get open like the other teams? Right now we have Jackson, Underwood, and Wright, I think. Did we forget that we need 10 yards for a first, that there is a middle of the field, that we should do some play action passing because everyone knows that we are going to run up the middle on at least two plays of every series?
One good note, the penalties were way down.
Joe what is your opinion of our offensive line play?

A boat load of talent can also get discourage with stubborn coaching plan that goes no where.
Blackouts next year?????
This can be prevented with new experience coaching staff & new QB. Let Glennon be the back up QB.

It happens! look at the Saints last night. IT was just one of those days and YES Carolina is a Superbowl contender and alot better than us this year. We made critical mistakes and we all knew MG was going to have a bad game sooner or later. Yes, Joe I think the panthers are more physical and probably did get in their heads a little.

Are we just fatigued?…..is that the problem?….We are just awful in the second half of most games…I know we have some difficulties with making the right adjustments…..but, missed tackling, recievers not getting open, no pass rush, O-line being mauled…..sounds like we are wore out!!!

I don’t think we’re wore out. I just think we are playing with backups for the most part. We have one good WR and he has no breakaway speed. We are down to 4th string RB. Nicks is out. Joseph is not himself. We have a rookie QB who shows promise but still makes rookie mistakes. Revis is playing hurt. We have terrible scheme on defense with all these stunts and only one DE that can pressure the QB. Our offensive scheme is vanilla for the most part but with more weapons for Glennon would probably look a lot better. Sheridan on the other hand HAS TO GO. He is absolutely terrible.

Our lack of depth is starting to show up. Especially in the trenches.
Why the hell are we carrying 4 FBs….and we still have Nicks on the active list….all taking up roster spots?
