Bigger Fish To Fry For Keionte Scott

Keionte Scott and YaYa Diaby celebrate Scott’s sack of Aaron Rodgers Sunday. Rodgers feels Scott’s sting.
Yeah, this season has really, really stunk. So many things have gone wrong and the Bucs have only played six games.
So, in part, not to lose his mind, Joe likes to point out something refreshing with the Bucs. Especially when it sort of signals something good down the road.
Joe was full out stoked when the Bucs drafted Keionte Scott out of Miami in the fourth round. Scott was a ferocious safety/hybrid in the secondary for the Hurricanes.
He may have been a defensive back, but Scott had the mentality of a nail-chewing linebacker.
Pairing him with fellow Miami teammate Rueben Bain, Joe thought that was a really nice nucleus for the Bucs defense for the future.
We got a glimpse of that Sunday in the loss to the Steelers. Not only did Bain get his first sack of his career, so did Scott.
Hope that’s a sign of many to come.
Joe spoke with Scott after Sunday’s game and he wasn’t too keen on talking about his sack. He was more than determined to start working on helping the Bucs win some games, not padding his stats.
“We obviously want to win football games,” Scott said. “We can’t put shine on [his sack] too much.”
When Joe spoke with Bain, he did. In fact, Bain said seeing Scott sack Steelers drama queen quarterback Aaron Rodgers inspired him to do the same.
Scott was humbled to hear that.
“I’m definitely proud of him accomplishing that,” Scott said. “He’s been fighting for it. And to see him get it was important.
“But we want to win football games.”
Scott said he won’t soon for get his sack on Rodgers, largely because of who Rodgers is, one of the greatest to have ever played.
“Yeah, it was definitely exciting to get him down,” Scott said. “I got to talk to him after the game and got a congratulations. That was big.”
But then, Scott told Joe the Bucs did not accomplish the goal of bringing him (and Bain) to Tampa Bay in the first place.
“Back to the drawing board,” Scott said. “We want to get better in any way we can.”

“…can’t put shine on (his sack) too much” was a quote that not on my bingo card this morning that I thought I’d read. Football out of context might be one of the funniest thing ever…
All jokes aside, the future for this defense does look reasonably bright once we get a new staff in here that hopefully meld and mold this group of young hungry players into absolute beasts (Bain, Trot, Scott, Parish, etc.).

The minimal success of the defense will bring Bowles back next season. The Glazers are thrilled that their confidence in him has paid off.
