Todd Bowles Gives Good Health Report On Rueben Bain

Rookie Miami Mauler edge rusher Rueben Bain.
The latest on Miami Mauler edge rusher Ruben Bain’s sprained right shoulder is uplifting but slightly concerning at the same time.
Bain sprained it one week ago in Jacksonville.
Today, Bowles was asked about Bain being spotted on the practice field this morning.and offered the following:
“He said he’s feeling good. So, we’re gonna roll with that,” Bowles said. “But he feels good and we’re going to play with it.”
Joe heard that — it wasn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of health by the head coach — and wondered whether Bain might be holding back how his shoulder really feels because he’s the kind of guy who would play through a broken leg.

Simple gamesmanship.
If your Cincy’, you now have to have two different sets of plays. Bowles non-answer creates doubt as to whether Bain will be in the mix and if he is, how effective will he be. As of now, the only people that actually know what the Buc’s re-tuned defense will look like is the Bucs. You can love or hate Bolwes, but he always has the team ready to play on opening day.

Hopefully not the case. We’ve already got 1 player who ‘would play through a broken leg’ and we saw how that worked out last year.

What do you want Bowles to say? Why give Cincy any more information than they are entitled to?
I know for a fact, some injuries become just a pain tolerance issue and Coaches keep the status vague out of respect for the player.
If this was hockey, all you get is “an upper Body injury”, even if it’s really a knee issue. Everyone just accepts that vagueness.
How many Lightning players have major surgery’s days after the season for injuries that no one talked about for weeks/months during the season
The only reason football injuries are reported at all is due to gambling and now fantasy, In the olden days they weren’t required to be reported, come Sunday players would just not be in the lineup. The world and football continued to turn without the information and the football was no worse for it.

Yawn. It is what it is. There’s nothing all of us retired coaches, GMs and orthopedic surgeons can do about the shoulder from the safety of our basements.
Let’s talk about the Bengals. I don’t pay any attention to them because life is too short. Do they have the same coaching staff etc? I know they have the same QB. Can we expect the same offense and defense? In other words, will our guys have lots of film from last year to study? Bowles has generally had our boys well prepared for game 1 so wondering if there will be any surprises from the Ben-Gals.

You guys keep talking about Pyburn as if he’s so great. Our olb room is great and Pyburn was playing against 3rd string OL and you guys are talking like the buccaneers made a big mistake. He’s not better than any of our OLB on our defense. I bet he’s gonna be riding the bench and playing special teams in Kansas City.

It’s funny that now if he doesn’t set the world on fire there will be more division among people here.
Either of these reasons and statements will be tossed out –
1. He’s a bust (after 1 game)!
2. Bowles damn you!
3. He’s soft for not playing well through a shoulder sprain!
4. My prayers weren’t answered (shakes fist at sky).
5. The season is over (paper bag over head decorating season starts)
6. Chill out, he’s a rookie! (the minority).

There’s no rush here. Let that shoulder heal.
If Reuben needs to miss a game or two, let him.
Shoulder injuries are like hamstrings. Don’t let them heal completely and they linger. You’re never quite 100% until you do.

No, Bain surely is not. Bain is a stud. Pyburn was a dud in college that looked good in the preseason playing against guys even worse than those he played against in college.
Kansas City will be embarrassed they ever picked him up.
